Principal’s Message Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the 7th week of the very last term of school this year. Boy did OVPS have a great week last week. Our choir was featured in not 1 but 2 prominent local events, the first being the feature artists at Kmart on Monday to help promote the Wishing Tree program they run and the second event being Remembrance Day at the Town Hall. They sang beautifully at both events and were featured on the news and in the Northern Daily Leader. Well done to our talented choir and to Mrs Ellis. Swimming Scheme is going very well again this year. Students are learning many life-saving skills and gaining in their confidence on and around water. Thanks to Mrs Morris and Mrs Rowsell for their organisation of this vital program. Our teachers are well and truly into report-writing mode at the moment, this may explain why they might look a little tired at times. Please give them a gentle pat on the back and let them know that they are truly awesome (as you know). I keep saying it but we are so incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated and supportive staff. It helps make students feel good at school and ensures we can continue to offer the best possible education to your children. Last week we wrapped up our Kindergarten orientation program. Our new students settled in to school comfortably with very few tears (apart from a few parents). Thanks to Mrs Murray for making our new students feel so welcome in our school. Please don't forget that we have another P&C meeting coming up very soon. Please lock our presentation mornings for infants and our presentation evening for Years 3-6 into your calendars. We love having families come into school to celebrate the achievements of our outstanding students. Have an amazing week and take care. YEAR 2 PRESENTATION & Infants Assembly

Friday, 20th November at 9:45am Please note change of time.

Congratulations to our superstar Primary Choir who were featured on Prime 7 News twice last week and in the Northern Daily Leader last Saturday. You were all excellent ambassadors for our school at the opening of the Kmart Wishing Tree and Remembrance Day at the Town Hall. We are all very proud of you. Keep up the fantastic work! The now famous Primary Choir will be performing at the Christmas Concert at OVPS on Monday 14 December commencing at 1.30pm. Mrs Genienne Ellis

Primary Choir Kmart Excursion On Monday 9/11 the Primary Choir went to Kmart to sing Christmas car-ols for the opening of the Kmart Wishing Tree. We sang “The Carol of the Birds”, “The Three Drovers”, “Christmas Day” and “Rockin’ Christmas”. Westdale Public School

sang some songs too. Two little boys came around. They had a Santa and an elf costume on. They had a bag full of lollipops. They gave everybody one. There was a man that gave two presents to The Salvation Army. Then a lady came over with a trolley filled to the top with dark and light teddy bears for The Salvation Army too. At the end, students from the two schools got a piece of cake and because there was some cake left the crowd got some pieces of cake too. Then we had to walk back to the bus and Mrs Ellis drove us back to school. We would like to thank Kmart Management for inviting us to the opening of the Wishing Tree. By Chloe and Jorja 3/4E Remembrance Day On Wednesday 11 of November, the choir went to the town hall to sing “Lest we Forget” for Remembrance Day. We sung our song and then the bugler played ‘The Last Post’. We had one minute silence and the bagpipes were played. The wreath laying followed where our School Captains laid a wreath. After the ceremony we walked down to Bicenten-nial Park to have some lunch and we saw the ducks. Some students walked around the fountain and some played games. It was a privilege to participate in this ceremony. Thank you to the RSL and Mrs Jayne McCarthy for invit-ing us.

IJ have been working hard this semester learning to write persuasive texts. This is where we argue our point of view to convince others to change their minds and agree with us! We have really loved this! Our class decided to convince you that: “Children must have PE at school” Read on…….. IJ strongly believe that children must have PE at school. Firstly, PE is fun! It takes your mind off schoolwork and you can relax outside. It is not always about winning either, it is about time with the class enjoying yourself. Secondly, PE is good exercise for your body. It helps you stay healthy and fit while you learn to co-operate and share in team games. Finally, PE teaches you the skills you need to play sports. We have learnt how to bounce a ball (basketball), chest passes and catches (netball), one hand strike (tennis) and two hand strike (hockey, cricket, t-ball). That’s why IJ knows children must have PE at

school……just like we do!

END OF FINANCIAL YEAR PROCESSES NSW Public Schools 'End of Financial Year' will end on the 30th November 2015. It is very important that all fees are paid up to date in the same year. Our 'Parent Online Payment' facility has been working well this year and we will continue to provide this service into the new year. (However please be advised that from the 25th November to the 4th December this facility will not be operating). You still have the option of paying by cash / cheque or EFTPOS. Thank you for your assistance in allowing this to run as smoothly as possible. Leanne Grinter, School Administrative Manager
