Cooperation Cooperation means getting along by working and playing together. Principals Message Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome back to Term 4! I hope your family had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. We had an entertaining end to Term 3 with our annual Talent Show. It was great to see the hidden talents of our students from K-6 on the stage. A big thank you also to Mrs Vujasin and our P & C for their efforts in organising our first Colour Run. There was a great atmosphere thanks to DJ Munch volunteering to play some tunes during the event. The event raised just over $8000! This will go towards equipment for our classrooms and playground, like our beautiful new umbrella installed over the holidays. The term ahead is going to be very busy and exciting with many activities planned for students, including Kindergarten Orientation, Grandparents Day, Halloween Disco, Captain Elections, Swim Scheme, Presentation Day and Year 6 Camp and Farewell. Staff will also continue to be involved in Professional Learning days in Literacy, Numeracy and Wellbeing initiatives. School Enrolments We are still busy enrolling new students for 2018. If you or anyone you know has children who are from our local area ready to start kinder next year please encourage them to enrol at our school as soon as possible. Our final Orientation session will take place on Friday 20 th October. Also, if you are planning to move out of the area and change schools please notify the front office as soon as possible. This will enable us to determine class sizes and staffing to ensure a smooth start in 2018. Child Protection Lessons Child Protection Education is required to be taught in every Stage of learning from Kindergarten to Year 10 as part of Personal Development, Health and Physical Education. All classes K-6, will be participating in Child Protection lessons during Term 4. These lessons will help children to: • recognise and respond to safe and unsafe situations • develop assertiveness (No, Go, Tell) • develop positive relationships • develop support networks • name parts of the body. Child Protection lessons are developed by the NSW Department of Education. The school program will be implemented in a manner that supports the role of parents and caregivers, and reflects the ethos of the school community. If you would like further details about the Child Protection lessons, please contact your child’s teacher. If you wish to withdraw your child from these lessons please contact the school office by phone or in writing. Next week we welcome back Mr Osborne and Mrs Truskett from their leave. NAIDOC Public Speaking Challenge Finals On Wednesday 26 September, Chanicqua Cachia and Timika Elliott represented Berkeley Public School in the NAIDOC Public Speaking Challenge Finals at Milton Public School. The girls spoke with pride and confidence, delivering an exemplary speech on the topic Because of Her, We Can. Taking on the feedback from her teachers as well as the adjudicator, saw the girls rank in third position. We are incredibly proud of the hard work, dedication and effort displayed by both girls this year for the NAIDOC Public Speaking Challenge. Well done! Amber Quintal
