College reopened after midsummervacation on 01.06.2010 with a prayer meetingled by Rev. George Mathew. First year Degreeclasses commenced on 21st June 2010. A new college website has beenlaunched during the academicyear by the Manager Thirumeni

These books were distributed to needystudents of the college on 05.07.2010 through the Heads ofDepartments. New drinking water facility - purified waterwith cooling facility is provided on all floors of the buildings.

Farewell to the Retiring Staff Members

A meeting was conducted on 4th March 2011 to bid farewell to the retiring teaching and non teaching staff membersunder the auspices of the Teaching Staff Association. Rt. Rev. Steps are being initiated for office automation. We havepurchased and installed the software needed for thesame and the process of entering the data isprogressing.

The library is fully automated during the academic yearand is now having INFLIBNET facility also. Theautomated Library was inaugurated on 17th September2010 by the Manager Thirumeni. The library at presenthas a collection of 26000 volumes including text booksand bound periodicals. It subscribes 50 periodicals andtwenty journals. The students and members of faculty cansearch 2300 journals and 50,000 books through theINFLIBNET facility.

Constant training and Counseling was given to students for appearing in various competitive examinationsand campus recruitment drives. A model aptitude test was conducted for the students in association withNIIT, Chengannur on 22nd September 2010. The activities for the year were inaugurated by Rev. GeorgeMathew. A motivation class was conducted on 30th July 2010.Rev. Manu Varghese led the session. Fifteen computers and UPS for the setting up of a full fledgedlanguage laboratory for English was provided under MP LADscheme of Prof. P. J. Kurien M.P. Women’s Hostel with an intake capacity of 85 is accommodating 32 students. Rev. Biju C. P. and Rev. Jacob John ledcounseling classes on every first and third Thursdays of each month for the inmates. Women’s Hostel Day celebrationswere conducted on 14th March 2011. Rev. Jacob John was the chief guest. Men’s hostel with an intake capacity of 20 isnow accommodating 7 students.

The total strength of the NCC unit is 60. Ten cadets participated in para sailing competition held at Kollam. Cadets conducteda ‘save energy campaign and posters were exhibited. (II B.A. Economics)won the prestigious Nehru Trophy in the All Kerala Intercollegiate Debate Competition organized by the Nehru Centre,Thiruvananthapuram on 13th November 2010. Ms. Deepa Mariam Alex won the individual first prize also. Ms. AchuAnna Mathew (III B.A. English) has been awarded the first runner up and Rs. 5,000 cash prize in the IntercollegiateDebate Competition organized by Laurels School of Management, Indore in association with Mar Thoma College ofManagement & Technology, Perumbavoor. College Men Football, Cricket, Shuttle Badminton and Table Tennis teams and Women Cricket and Table Tennis teamparticipated in the Kerala University Inter Collegiate Tournaments. Six women Cricket team members played forAlappuzha District Senior team and three played for the junior team. Souparnika Santhosh (II BSc Zoology) and VishnuPriya S. (I BA History) were selected to the Kerala Cricket under 19 and they played the National Championship atVijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. College hosted Kerala University Women Cricket Tournament from 15-17 November2010 and our college was the runner up. Souparnika Santhosh (DCII Zoology), Vidhya V. Varrier (DC III Economics),Vishnu Priya (DC I History), Ambily K. K. (DC II English) and Premaletha K. (DC II English) were selected to theKerala University team. They played for the University in the Inter University Women’s Cricket tournament held atGwalior from 16-27 December 2010.The college annual sports was held on 25th January 2011 on house basis. The flag was hoisted and the meet was openedby Smt. Suja John, Chair Person, Municipal Council, Chengannur. Red House secured the overall Championship. AnoopSusheel, III B.Sc. Physics and Souparnika Santhosh (II B.Sc. Zoology) were the individual champions. Inter housegames championships were also conducted. Green house won the shuttle badminton and table tennis championships andYellow house won the cricket and football. Prof. Ruby Mathew (Physical Education Lecturer), Prof. Mathew Varghese(General Convener) and the teachers who are in charge of the houses deserve appreciation for the pain they have takenfor the smooth conduct of the annual athletic meet.

Annual seven day camp of the National Service Schemewas held at AMM High School, Othera from December24-30 with camp theme ‘Youth for EnvironmentEnrichment’. An Ayurvedic Medical Camp and freemedicine distribution was conducted on 29th December inassociation with Karthika Nair NSS Ayurvedic Hospital,Vallamkulam. N.S.S. volunteers conducted an agriculturalsurvey at Othera and helped the villagers to start kitchengardens.

The 47th college day celebrations were held on 22nd February 2011 in the college auditorium. Prof. M. ThomasMathew noted literary critic and Vayalar awardee delivered the key note address. Retiring staff members were honoredand University Rank holders were felicitated. Endowment prizes, Kuwait Alumni awards, U.A.E. Alumni awards,proficiency prizes and arts and sports prizes were distributed to the students. Special awards were distributed toteachers who published research papers in national/international journals and books during the academic year. Differententertainment programmes followed the meeting.
