College reopened after midsummervacation on 01.06.2010 with a prayer meetingled by Rev. George Mathew. First year Degreeclasses commenced on 21st June 2010. A meeting was conducted on 4th March 2011 to bid farewell to the retiring teaching and non teaching staff membersunder the auspices of the Teaching Staff Association. Rt. Rev. Office Automation

Steps are being initiated for office automation. We havepurchased and installed the software needed for thesame and the process of entering the data isprogressing.

Library automation

The library is fully automated during the academic yearand is now having INFLIBNET facility also. Theautomated Library was inaugurated on 17th September2010 by the Manager Thirumeni. The library at presenthas a collection of 26000 volumes including text booksand bound periodicals. It subscribes 50 periodicals andtwenty journals. The students and members of faculty cansearch 2300 journals and 50,000 books through theINFLIBNET facility.

Constant training and Counseling was given to students for appearing in various competitive examinationsand campus recruitment drives. A model aptitude test was conducted for the students in association withNIIT, Chengannur on 22nd September 2010. Various seminars on Career opportunities, personalitydevelopment, facing the interview board etc. were conducted for the students in association with variousagencies like NIIT and APTECH. Job opportunities and campus recruitment drives were advertised or

displayed through proper noticesand brochures. Awarenessprogrammes for CAT, MATexaminations for Degree secondyear and third year students wereheld. Coaching classes for bank testswere started on 26th February 2011in association with TIME.Prof. Mathew Varghese served as thePlacement Officer.

Counselling unit has been activelyfunctioning during the current academicyear. Counselling classes were arranged forthe new comers. Rev. C. P. The activities for the year were inaugurated by Rev. GeorgeMathew. A motivation class was conducted on 30th July 2010.Rev. Manu Varghese led the session. Prayer meetings wereheld at 9:00 a.m. every morning in the chapel and regularmeetings were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on every Thursday. Rev.Biju C.P., Rev. Jacob John and Staff members of the collegegave leadership. The programmes were coordinated by Dr.Desy P. Koruthu.

Fifteen computers and UPS for the setting up of a full fledgedlanguage laboratory for English was provided under MP LADscheme of Prof. P. J. Kurien M.P. Steps to be initiated topurchase and install software using UGC funds and forfurnishing a room for the Lab. Thanks are due to Prof. P.J.Kurien M.P. for providing 15 computers & UPS for theCollege from MP LAD scheme funds.

The Annual get together of the Alumni Association was held on 5th November 2010. The meet was inaugurated by Adv.Thomas Philip, Member, Public Service Commission and former student of the college. Adv. Manoj K. John, formerstudent delivered felicitations. A good number of former teachers and students attended the function. A special meetingof the NRI Alumni was held on 3rd August 2010. Sri. P. R. Joy served as the General Secretary of the Alumni Association.

Different chapters of the Alumni are functioning well. Kuwait chapter and UAE chapter has given Rs. 12000/- andRs. 6000/- respectively for giving awards to 1st year UG and PG students. Principal. Dr. Jacob George and GoverningCouncil member Prof. Mathew Varghese visited UAE during 27.05.2010 to 11.06.2010 and attended the first annualmeeting of the UAE Alumni chapter held on 04.06.2010. The annual meeting was inaugurated by Sri. G. Sudhakaran,Hon. Minister for Co-operation, Government of Kerala. The alumni members contributed more than 10 lakhs rupeestowards college development fund.

College Union elections were conducted peacefully on01.10.2010 and the office bearers took oath on04.11.2010.The inauguration of the College Union and Artsclub was held on 16th November 2010. Noted poet Prof.D. Vinaya Chandran inaugurated the activities of theCollege Union & Arts Club for the academic year 2010-2011.Union Chairman, Govind Krishnan presided over thefunction. Arts Festival was conducted on 10th January 2011.

College Union valedictory meeting was held on 04.03.2011. Sri. Madhu Punnapra, cine channel artist gave the valedictorymessage. Sri. O. S. Unnikrishnan, noted film song writer released the Magazine. Dr. Rajan David served as the StaffAdvisor to the College Union and Arts Club.

Women’s Hostel with an intake capacity of 85 is accommodating 32 students. Rev. Biju C. P. and Rev. Jacob John ledcounseling classes on every first and third Thursdays of each month for the inmates. Women’s Hostel Day celebrationswere conducted on 14th March 2011. Rev. Jacob John was the chief guest. Men’s hostel with an intake capacity of 20 isnow accommodating 7 students.

The total strength of the NCC unit is 60. Ten cadets participated in para sailing competition held at Kollam. Cadets conducteda ‘save energy campaign and posters were exhibited. This year 16 cadets passed the B certificate examination and 10 passedthe C certificate examination.Mr. Vishal Satheesh, Sergent & II B.Sc. Mathematics student attended the Republic Day Parade 2011 at New Delhi andattended the Camp held at New Delhi from 1-29 January 2011.

An awareness programme on cancer and a lecture on climate change was conducted for the cadets. A mountaineeringcoaching class was conducted for the students in association with the Alappuzha District Mountaineering Associationon 8th January 2011 in the college. Lt. Brains Trust and Debating Club with a restricted membership of25 was very active during the academic year. The club organized aquiz competition on ‘World Cup football 2010’ on 14th July 2010.Twenty five teams participated. An inter-departmental debatingcompetition was organized on 17th February 2011 for the ever rollingand individual trophies instituted by Ms. Achu Anna Mathew

Brains Trust and Debating Club

The College team consisting of Ms. Deepa Mariam Alex (III B. A. Economics) and Ms. Anumol A. (II B.A. Economics)won the prestigious Nehru Trophy in the All Kerala Intercollegiate Debate Competition organized by the Nehru Centre,Thiruvananthapuram on 13th November 2010. Ms. Deepa Mariam Alex won the individual first prize also. Ms. AchuAnna Mathew (III B.A. English) has been awarded the first runner up and Rs. 5,000 cash prize in the IntercollegiateDebate Competition organized by Laurels School of Management, Indore in association with Mar Thoma College ofManagement & Technology, Perumbavoor. Prof. Koshy Mathai served as the teacher coordinator.

The Tourism club and Nature club conducted a naturestudy camp from 4-6 February, 2010 at Vazhachal-Athirappally forest area. 21 student members and 3 facultymembers participated in the nature study camp. The forestdepartment of the Government of Kerala sponsored thecamp. Prof. Thomas Alex and Prof. Thomas P. Thomasserved as the Conveners of the Nature Club and TourismClub respectively

College Men Football, Cricket, Shuttle Badminton and Table Tennis teams and Women Cricket and Table Tennis teamparticipated in the Kerala University Inter Collegiate Tournaments. Six women Cricket team members played forAlappuzha District Senior team and three played for the junior team. Souparnika Santhosh (II BSc Zoology) and VishnuPriya S. (I BA History) were selected to the Kerala Cricket under 19 and they played the National Championship atVijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. College hosted Kerala University Women Cricket Tournament from 15-17 November2010 and our college was the runner up. Souparnika Santhosh (DCII Zoology), Vidhya V. Varrier (DC III Economics),Vishnu Priya (DC I History), Ambily K. K. (DC II English) and Premaletha K. (DC II English) were selected to theKerala University team. They played for the University in the Inter University Women’s Cricket tournament held atGwalior from 16-27 December 2010.The college annual sports was held on 25th January 2011 on house basis. The flag was hoisted and the meet was openedby Smt. Suja John, Chair Person, Municipal Council, Chengannur. Red House secured the overall Championship. AnoopSusheel, III B.Sc. Physics and Souparnika Santhosh (II B.Sc. Zoology) were the individual champions. Inter housegames championships were also conducted. Green house won the shuttle badminton and table tennis championships andYellow house won the cricket and football. Prof. Ruby Mathew (Physical Education Lecturer), Prof. Mathew Varghese(General Convener) and the teachers who are in charge of the houses deserve appreciation for the pain they have takenfor the smooth conduct of the annual athletic meet.

The College has two national Service Scheme units. Volunteers N.S.S. actively participated in Leadership TrainingCamp, Special Youth Camp and State Level Camp on Anti-drug Campaign organized by the University. NSS unit of thecollege organized a one-day legal awareness class for UG students in association with the Kerala Legal Service Societyon 13th January 2011. Mr. S. Harikishore I.A.S., Sub Collector, Chengannur inaugurated the seminar. Adv. C. N. Ammanchy,Adv. P. K. Ajith Kumar and Adv. Roy Philip led the classes on Marriage, Ragging and Cyber laws.

Onam was celebrated in a befitting manner. Athapukkalam, Onappattu and ‘Vadamvali’ competitions were held. Theprizes were distributed to the winners.

Annual seven day camp of the National Service Schemewas held at AMM High School, Othera from December24-30 with camp theme ‘Youth for EnvironmentEnrichment’. An Ayurvedic Medical Camp and freemedicine distribution was conducted on 29th December inassociation with Karthika Nair NSS Ayurvedic Hospital,Vallamkulam. N.S.S. volunteers conducted an agriculturalsurvey at Othera and helped the villagers to start kitchengardens.

College day celebrations

The 47th college day celebrations were held on 22nd February 2011 in the college auditorium. Prof. M. ThomasMathew noted literary critic and Vayalar awardee delivered the key note address. Retiring staff members were honoredand University Rank holders were felicitated. Endowment prizes, Kuwait Alumni awards, U.A.E. Alumni awards,proficiency prizes and arts and sports prizes were distributed to the students. Special awards were distributed toteachers who published research papers in national/international journals and books during the academic year. Differententertainment programmes followed the meeting.
