Message

The walls may be high but the spirit of human beings lodged for the

wrong they have committed never die. They are always subject to humane

treatment, reforms and rehabilitation in society. Achieving this object is not easy

and smooth task and a large segment of society, social worker and prison

administrators have to work together in resonance to bring these people back in

mainstream of the society. This can only be obtained when we know the full

dimension of work that lies ahead.

I am happy to note that prison department U.P. is starting the

publication of prison statistics to facilitate the above objectives. I am sure it will

provide a wealth of information to those really interested in the welfare reforms

and rehabilitation of prisoners. I wish every success for the publication.

Message

The prisons and correctional services are an important Component of

criminal justice system. These play a very important role in Reform and

rehabilitation of the prisoners, resulting in prevention of crime and creating

harmony in society. Therefore, a complete study and the understanding of the

Prison statistics has important role in the planning of strategies to improve the

Prison administration and criminal justice system.

The compiled data of the Prisoners are valuable to the social

scientists, prison institutions and to the administrators to identify the grey areas of

the correctional administration and to formulate future strategies. With this purpose

in mind, the data of the Uttar Pradesh prisons is presented in a tabular form. This

is first attempt in U.P., therefore despite our best efforts certain short comings of

form or content may be there. We would be greatful for suggestions to improve this

publication. We shall endevour to publish prison statistics, regular every year in

future.

We hope that the policy makers, researchers and the social workers

will certainly find it useful.

Message

The walls may be high but the spirit of human beings lodged for the

wrong they have committed never die. They are always subject to humane

treatment, reforms and rehabilitation in society. Achieving this object is not easy

and smooth task and a large segment of society, social worker and prison

administrators have to work together in resonance to bring these people back in

mainstream of the society. This can only be obtained when we know the full

dimension of work that lies ahead.

publication of prison statistics to facilitate the above objectives. I am sure it will

provide a wealth of information to those really interested in the welfare reforms

Message

The prisons and correctional services are an important Component of

criminal justice system. These play a very important role in Reform and

rehabilitation of the prisoners, resulting in prevention of crime and creating

harmony in society. Therefore, a complete study and the understanding of the

Prison statistics has important role in the planning of strategies to improve the

Prison administration and criminal justice system.

The compiled data of the Prisoners are valuable to the social

scientists, prison institutions and to the administrators to identify the grey areas of

the correctional administration and to formulate future strategies. With this purpose

in mind, the data of the Uttar Pradesh prisons is presented in a tabular form. This

is first attempt in U.P., therefore despite our best efforts certain short comings of

form or content may be there. We would be greatful for suggestions to improve this

publication. We shall endevour to publish prison statistics, regular every year in

future.

We hope that the policy makers, researchers and the social workers

will certainly find it useful.
