CLADDING FIXING SYSTEM

CLADDING FIXING SYSTEM

1

Mechanical cladding fixing is a method in

which stone cladding materials are fixed

to the facade of the building with the use

of stainless steel angles, brackets and

anchors.

Cladding Fixing System is mechanical fixing assemblies for prefabricated panels on buildings.

There are too many different cladding types: sand stones, marbles and limestones, granite, basalt, precast concrete panels and other types.

MECHANICAL FIXING COMPARED TO CONVENTIONAL FIXING:

SPECIFICATIONS

EXMET provides a full system of

mechanical cladding fixing with all

needed support. Starting from the

design concept, the necessary load

requirements, down to the

manufacturing of the high quality

components and followed up by a good

after sales service.

MATERIALS USED:

LEED INFORMATION

LEED Clause LEED Requirement EXMET Compliance MR Credits 2.1 and 2.2 Construcon Waste Management.

Divert construcon and demolion debris from disposal in landfills and incinerators

EXMET products are made of steel, associated wastes generated should be included in the construcon waste management plan on each of the project.

MR Credits 4.1 and 4.2 Recycled Content. Increase demand for building products that incorporate recycled content materials, thereby reducing impacts resulng from extracon and processing of virgin materials.

EXMET products are made of steel and as widely known, 88% to 100% of steel used in the construcon a recycled into new steel products at the end of their useful life.

MR Credits 5.1 and 5.2 Regional Materials. Increase demand for building materials and products that have been extracted, harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured, within 800 km of the project site.

EXMET manufacturing plant is located in Qatar and Oman and most of our raw material suppliers are in close proximity to our locaon.

DESIGN CRITERIA

Cladding Type Common Density (kg/m3)

Sand Stone 2,000 - 2700 Marble, Limestone 2,400 - 2800 Granite, Syenite 2,600 - 2,800 Basalt, Gabbro, Diorite 2,000 - 3,000 Precast Concrete panels 2,200 - 2,400

I. Project Detailes Required:

Study and analyses of the loads and material properties:

1. Type of cladding material and size of panels to determine the weight.

2. Materials used:

3. Spacing distance between the face of the building and the face of the panels to be supported.

4. The location of the project to determine the wind load direction.

5. Building height.

DESIGN CRITERIA

II. Fixing Details

1. Types of Load:

a. Dead Load - refers to the load of the cladding itself

b. Variable Load - refers to live load, wind, seismic loads and thermal expansions

2. Fixing Systems:

a. Load-bearing Fixing - used to support dead loads

and the vertical components of the variable loads.

Makes use of brackets and angles of adequate

dimensions and loading capacity and anchored to the

building with expansion anchors and / or bolts.

b. Restraining Fixing - main purpose is to keep the

cladding in position as per the project specification.

With the use of the adjustable expansion anchors, even

in the absence of a perfectly vertical external surface of

the building, it can easily cover up this shortcoming.

DESIGN STEPS

1. Analysis of loads

2. Applying equations to compare actual with allowable stresses on each element.

3. Choosing the correct section.

Method of Design is ASD (Allowable Stress Design)

SHEAR fv (actual) = Vmax A Fv (allowable) = 0.40 Fy

Fv / fv > 1

FLEXURAL

fb (actual) = Mmax S Fb (allowable) = 0.60 Fy

Fb / fb > 1

DEFLECTION

Point Load: Δ(actual) = PL³ 3EI Distributed Load: Δ (actual) = wP³ 8EI Δ(allowable) = L 500 *not to exceed 0.5mm Δ(allowable) / Δ(actual) > 1

TENSION AND BEARING CAPACITY

ft(actual) = T A Ft(allowable) = 0.67 Fy Ft / ft > 1

* detailed design to be submied upon request and is given in case to case basis

* generally, the values menoned in our tables can be used safely.

ANCHOR BOLTS

Sleeve / Shield Anchor

Suitability:

Ideal for non-cracked concrete

Description

Composed of Tapered Bolt, Expansion Clip and Hexagonal Nut.

When the hexagonal nut is tightened, the tapered bolt is then pushed into the expansion clip

causing it to expand and anchor itself on the wall thus it will not fall off or twist in the hole.

Material:

Stainless Steel Grade 304 and Grade 316

(as per Engineer’s instructions)

Suitability:

Ideal for cracked and non-cracked concrete, bricks, block, stone

Description

Pre-assembled anchors for quick and easy installation. The half-moon shaped recesses

stamped in the sleeve contracts in length when it is tightened thus permitting the item to be

attached firmly to the concrete.

Material:

Stainless Steel Grade 304 and Grade 316
