education and organization planning, implementation and evaluation. The experience trains administrators to become

highly qualified administrators and leaders.

NJAC is open to directors and their administrators who have completed the 60-hour course requirement for Director’s Academy

and who are or have worked in an early child care setting for at least one year.

instruction is conducted over a 10 week period. Administrators who have received the credential serve as mentor advisors.

1. COURSEWORK is based on Taking Charge of Change, a leadership curriculum that enables administrators to align their program with evidence-based research and best practices. The coursework’s emphasis is on critical think-ing, knowledge and skill development.

2. PRACTICUM requirements are worked on in class and completed independently The practicum consists of developing the following:

• Program Administrations Scale (PAS), a reliable and easy-to-administer evaluation tool to assist administrators in measuring overall quality and choosing improvement goals for their programs.

• Program Improvement Plan, using the (PAS) as a guide, the PIP provides an organized approach to incre-mentally improve center services with technical assistance support.

• Professional Resource File, consists of written compe-tency goal statements related to the center’s services and improvements.

The New Jersey Administrator’s Credential is recognized by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) in the alternate pathways to achieve educational qualifications of the program administrator.

As a credentialed administrator, you become a member of the early child care community that is dedicated to:

• Raising the standards of professionalism

• Substantially increasing the knowledge levels of administrators

• Expanding the capacity of administrators to build collabora-tive relationships

Feb. 2 (6–9 p.m.)

4. The Circle of CareThe culture we come from impacts the kind of care we provide. Creating positive caregiver-parent partnerships when chil-dren and caregivers come from different cultural backgrounds can be a challenge. Multicultural infant toddler care presents new opportunities to both families and pro-viders. Practice ways to welcome diversity and recognize ways to invite parents to share their own practices authentically with the infants and toddler in your care. Feb. 9 (6–9 p.m.)

Caregivers can help ease parents’ feelings of anxiety, guilt worry, etc. by creating opportunities to communicate: Problem solve practical ways of working with parents in this session and develop strategies to engage them as productive partners in their child’s care and development. March 1 (6–9 p.m.)

8. Help! He Did It Again!Children with challenging behaviors often take up 90 percent of our care giving time. Learn ways to determine the meaning of their behavior and ways to develop appropriate responses. Explore strategies to support these children so they remain curious and become successful learners while preventing their challenging behaviors from interfering with care routines. March 15, (6–9 p.m.)

9. Building Better BrainsWhat a child experiences in the first years of life profoundly influences how each infant’s brain will develop and how each will then learn to interact with the world throughout life. In this session, participants will explore the ways attachment and bonding, talking and listening, as well as nutrition and well planned environments can support an infant’s brain development while the child is in your care. March 22, (6–9 p.m.)

10. Respectful CareMagda Gerber’s vision for respectful care is shared in this session. You will examine approaches that build competence in very young children as infants and toddlers are allowed to initiate activity and movement.
