Good morning. I am (NAME OF INTERVIEWER) and I am working for the Nielsen Company to conduct a survey -called the Asian Democracy Study- which is being done in Indonesia, South Korea, the Philippines, and Thailand. This study was done in Bangkok, Manila, Jakarta, and Seoul in 2000 and we want to find out how opinions may have changed over the last ten years. The study is entirely academic and is not related to any government or political organization. The information will be utilized by researchers from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) to understand better what people think about their country and how it works. Your identity will be kept entirely anonymous and the researchers from Johns Hopkins will never know your name or where you live. Your participation in the Asian Democracy Study is voluntary. If you agree to participate in the study we will ask you a series of questions about the economy, society, and democracy in your country. The interview will take about an hour and you may withdraw at any point during the interview if you wish. Thank you in advance for your time.
