Get in the Know
When Live Well asked older people for advice they would give to their younger self high on the list
were: “look after your Health” & “keep involved in things outside the home”
You’re never too old to take your own advice & there are many things on offer around
Corangamite to help you stay active & involved, so:
Keep your ear to the ground… Spread the word, Don’t be backwards in coming forward…
The Events Calendar on the Corangamite Shire website along with town & club newsletters and the local ‘grapevine’ are great starting points to
find out what’s on Spread the word about activities you enjoy; invite
others to join you.
Keeping Exercise on Track 30 minutes of physical activity each day improves the health of mind and body ‐ as simple as taking walk in our beautiful outdoors or as organised as joining an
exercise class & sharing the fun with others.
There are so many reasons to keep active, the best one though is that it simply makes you feel better
There are many exercise options for older people in Corangamite to choose from! See overleaf for more detail about what’s on in your area. Start with a GP check‐up to make sure you are safe to start.
The Victorian Active Ageing Partnership Conference booked out quickly!! Information from presenters will be shared amongst exercise professionals following the conference & plans are in the works for another
Exercise Network Meeting‐ Watch This Space
Project Update – August 2018
Corangamite Home & Community Support Staff and the Live Well Project Worker recently attended Seniors Rights Victoria’s Elder Abuse Training. Presenter Gary Ferguson was very engaging (& spoke highly of
Lismore’s sausage rolls!!) Elder abuse is any act which causes harm to an older person & is carried out by someone they know & trust such as family & friends.
If this is an issue for you or someone you know call Seniors Rights Victoria. Their phone line is open 10am‐5pm Monday‐ Friday & will be ANSWERED BY A REAL PERSON WHO CARES & CAN HELP: 1300 368 821
