Transaction pipeline

CROSS MARKET ACTIVITY TRENDCMA

Pipeline activity variance2020 was a roller coaster year for the UK property market. Early signs of growth at the start of the year were stalled by Covid-19 and the first lockdown.

In March, the government closed the housing industry but reopened it in May, when strong volumes of new listings were matched by strong demand. For the remainder of 2020, the property market continued to strengthen.

However, conveyancing activity took five months to rebound and reach the capacity of the previous year, creating a large backlog. As the property industry is a pipeline industry, it can only move as fast as the slowest stage of the transaction.

2021 has started in a buoyant fashion but there are uncertainties ahead. At Landmark, we trace these indexes carefully to better understand where the industry is going next.
