Where is Jersey?
Jersey is one of the best known and most successful small islands of the world.
The most southerly of the British Isles, some 100 miles south of England, but just 12 miles off the coast of France.
Jersey is not part of the UK, nor a member of the European Union, and has its own elected legislative assembly, fiscal and legal system and Courts

Challenges and success
Change and innovation have characterised Jerseys way of life.
17th century: economy based on agriculture and sheep rearing. This led to the creation of a knitted garment known as a ‘jersey’.
18th century: boat building and the creation of a fishing fleet.
Late 19th century: emergence of the Jersey Dairy brand and the Jersey Royal potato. The Jersey cow is protected as a pure breed within the island.
