PHASE4COMMERCIALSTREETPAVINGPROJECT-PROVINCETOWN

PHASE 4 COMMERCIAL STREET PAVING PROJECT

This week crews have prepped Commercial Street from Allerton Street to the area just pastFanizzis for paving. Paving will happen Friday May 10th starting at 7am and will continue all day. There is a possibility that they need to finish paving on Saturday based on the potential for rain lateday on Friday. Once this paving is complete Commercial Street must remain closed for 24-48 hoursfor the pavement to cure properly. If you drive on this before it is cured you could damage to this veryexpensive asphalt! Thank for your patience and understanding during this very important project!

Starting Monday May 13th crews will continue with the brick work heading towards Howland Street. They will also resume with the road reconstruction work starting at the area past Fanizzis headingtowards Howland Street. You can expect to see crews in the paved area working on aprons andgeneral clean up. You can still expect detours and delays in the whole Phase 4 area of construction.

Reminder! There will be NO PARKING on Commercial Street from Allerton Street to Howland StreetsMonday thru Saturday from 7am to 5pm. This will go into effect Monday March 25th and last until theend of June. Please seek alternate parking now. You can also expect Commercial Street to beclosed in areas of work and you should expect detours and delays.

TOWN WIDE PAVING PLAN

All the roads as part of this year’s Town Wide Paving plan have been paved. In the comingweeks they will get the road lines painted. Please be patient and courteous until this iscomplete. Thank you for your cooperation during this very important project.

STANDISH ST AT BRADFORD ST WORK

Work on Bradford Street in the area of Standish Street will be starting next week, weatherpending. This is part of the ongoing sidewalk improvements started in the fall. This work isexpected to be complete before the end of June. You can expect detours and delays in thisarea. Please be patient.

All Travel Lanes Reopened on Bourne BridgeLane restrictions over the Bourne Bridge were removed today and all travel lanes over thespan are open. The project included the replacement of bridge joints on the roadway, repair of deterioratedsteel and concrete and the patching of damaged pavement surfaces.Crews also replaced waterproof membranes and performed maintenance work on bridgelighting and drainage systems. The work had been scheduled to last up until Memorial Day Weekend.According to Bourne State Police, work may continue on the pedestrian sidewalk as needed,

According to Bourne State Police, work may continue on the pedestrian sidewalk as needed, but that work would not impact travel lanes. The work on the bridge was postponed from lastfall to this spring after an outcry from local business and tourism officials. They asked for the delay after the Sagamore was reduced to one lane in the spring of 2018and wanted to avoid both shoulder tourism seasons in one year being impacted by bridgerepair work.

Provincetown breakwater, super 'Worm Moon" tide by Jay Critchley

Greetings to the Swim for Life Community,

Spring is well on its way in Provincetown and my snap peas have just sprouted! The tomatoes don't go in until June 1 (we're a few weeks behind the mainland here, surrounded by cold water).

It's also time to officially announce the 32nd Provincetown Swim for Life & Paddler Flotilla, set for September 7. For many of us it's an important tradition, one that anchors our lives and offers communal stability and inspiration. The Provincetown Community Compact thanks you for sharing a part of your lives with us, in the healing waters of Provincetown Harbor. Our beneficiaries also thank you for your generosity.

We all love our favorite t-shirts! Over the years, many of you have asked how you might acquire previous Swim t-shirts. Well, we have created The Compact Store with the last four Swimdesigns (we have mugs too!) from artists Zehra Kahn, Ellen LeBow with Andrea Pluhar, Bill Evaul and Allan McKinnon. Additional designs will be added periodically.

We will be sending out updated swimmer, boater and volunteer information around June 1, also with the new 2019 Swim design!

Enjoy the spring and thanks for your heartfelt commitment to this essential Provincetown tradition. Be sure to thank our business sponsors when you're in town.

Peace, Jay
