Print screen analysis of the Inbetweeners

1st analysis

In this screenshot you can see the comedic value with the phrase that is on the back of the car, it is a close up of the car to highlight the humour that is on the car. The humour that is used here is very crude and to some is offensive, and because the topic that is mentioned on here generally revolves around the younger ages, it is just to assume that the film is targeting the younger audience. The mise-en-scene of the scene also creates humour because the character who owns the car has a lot of crude humour and usually talks nonsense, so with the car being in a remote area it shows that what the sticker Sais is absurd.

2nd analysis

This is a wide shot showing the surrounding area as will navigates his way across a busy dance floor at a nightclub, the wide shot allows the audience to see will looking out of place with his bag pack on and clearly accidentally barging into people as he is walking through. The mise-en-scene of the scene helps the audience see how different will is from everyone else as he is walking through the night club everyone turns and laughs at him as seen by the extra to the left of will.

3rd analysis

The shot here is a close up of will to show his facial expressions and highlight some of the humours features about his appearance; firstly his costume gives him the look of a nerd who generally in film is the centre piece in all of the comedy that comes. The mise-en-scene of the scene reinforces it with the glasses, the long hair and the shirt and tie.

4th analysis

The camerawork in this shot is a wide shot which allows the audience to see the entire background as well as seeing the character fully as well. The mise-en-scene used in the scene shows that the setting at this point is in a graveyard which in turn makes Alans costume have strong comedic value because he is not wearing a shirt. His appearance also helps to connote a comedy film because he has a beard and long hair which is showing he is not particularly bothered about his appearance, this is reinforced by his mass. People of his size tend to be the centre of all comedy especially when they make it as apparent as they do in this case. The lighting in the shot that has been taken is very high, this shows signifies a upbeat mood with the high key lighting. Overall the setting and the costume used in this is very conventional for a comedy because it shows situational humour with the way he is at what is meant to be a place of decorum.

5th analysis

In this shot there is a low angle shot showing a character hanging on by some towels of what seems to be a very high roof. The mise-en-scene of the scene helps show the setting of it being very dangerous, but the comedy is introduced from an extremely dangerous scenario via Alan trying to take a picture of him whilst his life is in danger. The lighting in the scene is high key because conventionally comedies are supposed to put people into a good mood and shown in this picture even in a bad scenario you can find the comedy in it.

6th analysis:

The shot type used in this print screen is again a wide shot, this again allows the audience to compare the different in costumes between all the different characters. Firstly, the one in the middle is wearing a plain t shirt compared to the rest who are all dressed smart and in suits. The facial expressions that are shown in this shot show Alan to be crying, this is the basis of the comedy because most comedy come as a direct result of someone else’s misfortune. There is a degree of low key lighting in the shot which shows that there is sadness in the scene, but because it is not conclusive it does leave the option open for some upbeat comedy to appear as well. With difference in costumes being clear, it shows that Alan is the most immature because of how he is dressed compared to other who all look professional.
