    May the year 2020 bring you the warmth of love, and a light to guide your path towards a positive destination with health and happiness.

    We have the next edition of ‘CASIANS,’ PSG Arts Alumni Newsletter for you and I am glad that this edition marks the completion of two successful years. Hopefully, the newsletter has been bridging you all with your alma mater not only by highlighting the activities of our PSG Arts Alumni Association but keeping you updated on the academic, extracurricular, extension and sports activities, events and celebrations in the College as well.

    My hearty wishes to our beloved alumnus, Mr.T.Rajkumar, Chairman of Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) for being part of the textile delegation that met with our Honourable Prime Minister, Shri.NarendraModi.

    Dear PSG CAS AlumniWarm Greetings…

    With great pleasure I present the 8th Edition of “Casians” - PSG Arts Alumni Newsletter. This issue highlights the enjoyment & happiness of our alumni when they gathered.

    Young alumni of BA Economics 2009 – 2012 batch and alumni of B.Com 2008 – 2011 batch had their get-together in the college.

    It’s my pleasure to thank the Department Heads, teaching, non teaching staff members and the students of Catering Science & Hotel Management, Carnatic Music, Costume Design & Fashion, Management Science, Visual Communication for the success of the mega event “Curry Masala - 2019”.My heartfelt thanks to Dr.T.Kannaian, Secretary, Dr.D.Brindha, Principal, Mr V. Lakshminarayanasamy, immediate Past President, Mr Kamesh the event Co-ordinator and Office Bearers of alumni association for their support in conducting program successfully.

    Two Core Committee meetings and three functional committee meetings have been conducted for 1992 – 1995 batch for their Silver Jubilee Reunion. Alumni members are actively participating and planning for their mega event.

  • Alumni Association PSG College of Arts & Science Alumni Association has a full-fledged office from the year 2007. The Alumni Executive Committee meets once in three months. One of the main purposes of our Alumni Association is to support a network of former graduates who will, in turn, help to raise the profile of the college. They participate as mentors and donors for the students. Alumni Association awards scholarships to meritorious students. Every year, our alumni association celebrates Teachers’ Day and honors all the past and present teachers of the college. It organizes two to three fund raising programmes with the support of the Office Bearers and Committee Members to help the students through scholarships. Number of alumni get-togethers and Silver Jubilee Reunions are organized by the PSG Arts Alumni Association.

    Campus ActivitiesFaculty Development Programme on ‘Online Trading’

    The Department of B.Com. (Financial System) in association with PSG CARE conducted an FDP on 1st November 2019 at PSGIM. Dr.P.Vardarajan was the resource person. Around 23 faculty members of PSG CAS participated in the programme.

    Faculty Development Programmeon ‘Logistical Process’

    The Department of International Business organized a one-day FDP on ‘Logistical Process’ on 2nd November 2019. The resource person for the morning session, Mr.Neelameham, Retired Manager, Maresk Line visualized the evolution of shipping (past to present) and explained the Indian logistics sector using SWOC analysis. In the afternoon session, Mr.Shanmuga Sundaram, Manager, Nippon Express gave an overview of air cargo logistics in Indian perspective.

    Faculty Development Programme on ‘Emerging Trends in Research’

    The Departments of B.Com. (Accounting and Finance), B.Com. (E-commerce) and B.Com.(Banking and Insurance) organized a three-day FDP from 4th to 6th November 2019. On the first day, Dr.S.Sudalaimuthu, Professor and Head, Department of Banking Technology, School of Management, Pondicherry University, explained the need for engaging in research oriented activities and gave insights on various funding agencies. On the second day, ‘Shiksha Rattan’ Dr.D.Kumaresan, Principal, Laxminarayana Arts and Science College for Women, Dharmapuri conducted a hands-on session on data analysis using SPSS software. On the third day, Dr.S.Muruppan, Professor, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Sathyamangalam introduced the concept of data structure and exploring the data with pivot tables. Around 26 faculty members from various departments participated.

    Faculty Development Programme on ‘Technology-Aids for Effective Teaching and Learning’

    The Department of Management Science (BBA-Regular & BBA-IS) in association with PSG CARE conducted a one-day FDP on ‘Technology-Aids for Effective Teaching and Learning’ for the faculty of Commerce and Management on 7th November 2019. Dr.D.Brindha, Principal, inaugurated the event and delivered the presidential address. The first session was handled

    by Dr.R.Sujatha, Associate Professor, PSG Institute of Management and the second session by Ms.M.Umarani, Faculty In-charge and Head, Department of BBA. Dr.N.Muthumani, Head, Department of Mathematics with CA, Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore was the resource person.

    Faculty Development Programme on‘Export/Import Documentation’

    The Department of B.Com. (Foreign Trade) in association with PSG CARE organized a one-day FDP on ‘Export/ Import Documentation’ for the faculty members on 12th November 2019. The resource person, Mr.G.Rajamurthy, Director, Global Institute of Foreign Trade & State Secretary, Federation of MSE Clusters Tamilnadu (FOMSECTA) discussed the basic procedures for starting an export-import business. Around 25 faculty members from various departments participated.

    Faculty Development Programme on ‘Emerging Trends in Information Technology’

    The Department of Information Technology in association with PSG CARE conducted a five-day FDP on ‘Emerging Trends in Information Technology’ from 15th to 20th November 2019. Around 22 faculty members from the Department of Computer Science attended the programme.

    Faculty Development Programme on ‘Web Programming for IoT’

    The Department of Computer Applications (BCA & MCA) in association with PSG CARE organized an FDP on ‘Web Programming for IoT’ for the Computer Science faculty members from 15th

    to 20th November 2019. The resource persons were Mr.Padmanabhan Srinivasan, CEO, and Mr.N.Duraisamy, Head, IT & Health and Science of Easy Design Systems Private Limited, Coimbatore, Mr.Kishore Kumar, Associate Engineer and Mr. Karthik Eshwar, Associate Engineer of Twirl Tact Technology Solutions Private Limited, Coimbatore. Around 22 faculty members actively participated in the programme.

    Faculty Development Programme on ‘Research Publication and Pedagogy on Teach-ing’

    The Department of English (UA) in association with PSG CARE organized a two-day FDP on ‘Research Publication and Pedagogy on Teaching’ on 20th and 21st November 2019. The resource persons were Dr.Sathyaraj Venkatesan, Associate Professor, NIT, Trichy, and Dr.J.John Sekar, HOD and Dean, Academic Policies and Administration, American College, Madurai. The speakers inspired and encouraged the participants to challenge themselves to a higher standard of publication in research.

    Faculty Development Programme on ‘E-Content Development’

    The Department of Computer Technology conducted a five-day FDP on ‘E-content Development’ in association with PSG CARE from 21st to 26th November 2019. The resource person, Ms.Santhana Lakshmi, Director, Colour Up Technologies Pvt. Ltd. gave insights and hands-on training and the participants were assisted to create a complete video with multiple layers and tweens along with audio and image embedding concept, animation and background effects.

    Faculty Development Programme on ‘Data Analytic Tools’

    The Department of Computer Science with Data Analytics in association with PSG CARE organized a five-day FDP on ‘Data Analytic Tools’ from 21st to 26th November 2019.The resource persons were Mr.Sabarinathan Muthu, Mr.R.Jude Kingseley & Mr.ArunKumar Pillai from Gateway Software Solutions, Coimbatore. Around 22 faculty members from the Department of Computer Science were updated with the advances in data science, big data analytics and the most widely used technologies in the domain.

    Faculty Development Programme on ‘Enterprise Resource Planning’

    The Department of Food Processing Technology in association with PSG CARE organized an FDP on ‘Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)’ on 25th November 2019. Mr.K.Mohana Sundharam, Head – ERP, Dixcy Textiles Private Limited, Tirupur addressed the participants on the strategies for effective ERP selection and documentation.

    Workshop on Recent Trends on Diabetes and Obesity Management

    The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics conducted a domain-specific workshop on ‘Recent Trends on Diabetes and Obesity Management’ sponsored by PSG CARE on 26th November 2019.

    The first session was handled by Dr.G.Krishna Shankar, Consultant in Endocrinology, Diabetes, Thyroid and Obesity, Sri Ramakrishna Hospitals, Coimbatore. The second session was handled by Dr.S.Kamalraj, Assistant Professor, Department of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery, PSG Hospitals. Around 23 faculty members attended the programme. Dr.D.Brindha, Principal, distributed certificates to the participants.

    NAAC-Sponsored One-Day National Symposium on ‘Revised NAAC Accreditation Process’

    A NAAC-sponsored one-day National Symposium was organized by the IQAC of PSGCAS on 29th November 2019 to orient the faculty members to the revised NAAC Accreditation Process. Dr.S.Venkata Krishna Kumar, Coordinator – IQAC, PSGCAS welcomed the gathering, Dr.D.Brindha, Principal, delivered the presidential address and Dr.T.Kannaian, Secretary, felicitated the event. The inaugural address was by Dr.Priya Narayanan, Assistant Adviser, NAAC, Bengaluru. Dr.Priya spoke about the need for education system that will take students beyond the textbook, and get them ready for the real life and elaborated on the three stages of the assessment process - Self Study Report (SSR), Student Satisfaction Survey, and the Peer Team Report.

    The second technical session on Documentation Process and Data submission for NAAC was facilitated by Dr.S.Sumaya, Principal, Thassim Beevi Abdul Kader College for Women. Dr.Sumaya explained in detail the seven assessment criteria and key indicators under each criterion of Higher Education Institutions (as listed by NAAC) to orient participants about the various documents that an institution need to prepare to go through accreditation.

    33rd Graduation Day Ceremony of PSGCAS

    PSG College of Arts & Science held its 33rd Graduation Day on 10th December 2019 in the GRD Auditorium and conferred degrees to students. Shri.L.Gopalakrishnan, Managing Trustee, PSG & Sons’ Charities, presided over the function, Dr.D.Brindha, Principal, welcomed the gathering and presented the annual report. Chief Guest, Prof. Dr.P.Kaliraj, Vice Chancellor, Bharathiar University distributed the degrees to 3147 graduates from various disciplines including 37 Doctoral degrees, 824 Post Graduates degrees and 2323 Under Graduate degrees. Rank holders in various disciplines were also honoured with medals and merit certificates.

    Academic ActivitiesState level Seminar on ‘Contemporary Developments in Logistics’

    The Department of BBA Logistics & PGDBM conducted a State-Level Seminar on ‘Contemporary Developments in Logistics’ on 03rd October 2019 in order to provide an insight into the developments and challenges of the Logistics Industry. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr.D.Brindha, Principal. Prof.S.Ganesan, Head - Educational Initiative, from Logistics Sector Skill Council rendered the felicitation address. Mr.Rajesh Kumar, Director of Global Shipping & Logistics Pvt. Ltd., delivered the key note address. The session on Logistics as a Profession was handled by Mr.T.V.Sangeeth, Founder & Partner of Cross Meridian Shipping & Logistics.

    Mr.Ramesh Venkat, Head - Industry Partnerships, Logistics Sector Skill Council discussed about the role of Warehousing in Logistics Sector and briefed on multi-modelling, fulfillment centre and other warehouse developments in today’s context.

    Mr.Madhava Priyan, Head - HR &OD, FLYJAC Logistics spoke on the developments in supply chain solutions and opportunities in the area of manufacturing, data analysis, procurement, transport and customer service. Mr.S.Subramaniam, Senior Manager (Cargo) in AAI, Coimbatore highlighted on the Air Cargo Processes and opportunities.

    Extracurricular Activities‘Train the Trainer’ Program

    The Young Indians (Yi) forum organized ‘Train the Trainer’ program for Project Masoom on 4thOctober 2019 at Sathyam Hall. Dr.E.Mythily, Young Indians Faculty Co-ordinator, PSG CAS welcomed the gathering.

    Mr.Anush, Masoom Institution Chair and Ms.Nethra Madhan, Member of Masoom, elaborated the happenings in Project Masoom to the members and also they clarified the contribution of students towards the society through Project Masoom.

    Coffee with CEO

    The Young Indians (Yi) forum organized the ‘Coffee with CEO’ program on 12th December 2019. Mr.P.G.Suraj, Young Indians - Faculty Co-ordinator of PSG CAS welcomed the gathering.

    Dr.A.Priyadharshini, Chair - Project Yuva, Yi Coimbatore Chapter, introduced the Chief Guest. Ms.Deepa Sivarathna, Yi Institution Chair – PSGCAS conveyed the importance and contribution of the Yuva members. Chief Guest, Mr.R.Vijay Ananth, Joint Managing Director, Surfine Tools elabo-rated the key skills required of an entrepreneur and gave note on industry standards and expectations.

    Retain Employees Day-2019

    The Department of Management Sciences - Retail management celebrated Retail Employees Day 2019, an initiative by Trust for Retailers and Retail Associates of India (TRRAIN) on 12th December 2019. Dr.D.Brindha, Principal delivered the Presidential address and released ‘INSIGHTS,’ the Newsletter launched by the Department of BBA-RM, which is a bi-annual edition focusing on the activities of the Department. Dr.A.Anguraj, Vice-Principal (U/A) felicitated the event. Ms.N.A.Sujatha, Marketing Manager, Brookefields Estate Private Limited, Coimbatore delivered a special lecture on ‘Mall Marketing in Today’s Retail Scenario.’ Students of BBA-RM participated in various competitive events like Venture track, Blind fetch, Juggling balls, Ball tossing, Monkey-walk and Business quiz.

    Alumni Association News

    A get-together of B.A. Economics, 2009-12 batch was held on 5th October 2019 at Sangamam Hall. All the 17 members who had gathered are registered as life members.

    Thanksgiving Ceremony

    PSG Arts Alumni Association organized a Thanksgiving Ceremony for the success of Curry Masala – 2019, the food and cultural fete, to thank all the Department Heads, staff members and students involved in the successful conduct of the event on 11th December 2019 at GRD Auditorium. Shri.V.Lakshminarayanasamy, Past President of the Alumni Association welcomed the gathering and thanked everyone for the grand success of the event. Dr.T.Kannian, Secretary, Dr.D.Brindha, Principal, Shri.R.Mahendran, President, Dr.B.Ramesh, Treasurer, CA L.Kamesh, Convener, wholeheartedly thanked all the students and faculty members for the support and success of the mega event. Certificates of appreciation were distributed to the students and staff members who organized and coordinated Curry Masala 2019.
