POLICE ACT 1861The Police Act, 1861 remained till the promulgated Police Order, 2002 (the "Order") which came into effect on 14 August 2002. However, it should be noted that notwithstanding the introduction of the Order, no new rules for the police were ever implemented.17

Punjab police should commit to the principles of justice, equality, integrity, fairness and respect for human rights and law enforcement in conformity with international norms and best practices. To get the results lot of human resource is required in which it is already deficient. A cursory look at the crime clock indicates the general crime situation and the graph of police population ratio indicates its position in relation to the other forces of the world.Way Forward:32

Electronic media should be fully utilized for instance Television Radio programs on public security , Seminars / workshops, walks,should be arranged for awareness of the public sense of security.Working in and with local communities is at the heart of what the Police should do.

Rising population, worsening economic conditions, Un-employment, economic disparities, deteriorating social fabric have adverse impact on crime situation.The main priorities of Punjab Police are maintenance of Law and Order Conclusion:34

Prevention and detection of crime, especially terrorism, suicide bombing and sectarianism. Countering corruption, traffic management and capacity building of the force and service delivery are the other main issues, with strong political will and leadership all foregoing barriers may be set aside and public security may be ensured as it was promised by the state in the social contract.35
