An improved public transportation system will connect communities,

improve local economies and provide service to improved High

speed Rail Alberta, HSRA, and LRT, Light Rapid Transit. Community with alternative modes of transportation, can easily ride transit. Public safety,

an issue along many roads within the Plan Area, is a significant deterrent

in using more active forms of transportation. Recommendations

must be presented and the Transportation Plan completed

fulfilling community requirements.

Active Transportation Plan

The Community is faced with a number of transportation challenges including low density development which is not conducive to frequent transit service, narrow roads and

roads with potholes, uneven gravel’d shoulders, which pose a challenge for

non-vehicular modes of transportation. Large separation

distances between residential areas and areas where commercial goods and services can be obtained need

public transportation.

Transportation is of key importance to the community and is of growing concern.

Community Town Hall Workshops are effective to determine needs and to provide each community with information. The purpose of the workshop is to allow the community an

opportunity to illustrate key transportation linkages, routes, and facilities needing connections, as well as brainstorm future opportunities for active transportation in the

community. Lead by a Sylvan Lake/Red Deer, Transportation Group, the consultants for the project. Participants were asked to answer a number of transportation questions and

indicate their responses on the maps provided. A great deal of input was reviewed, which assisted in the identification and prioritization of Active Transportation improvements

throughout Electoral Area 'A'.
