2016 Missions & Outreach Grants Believe it or not, it’s time to begin looking
toward our 2016 budget. One component of
the budget is our Missions and Outreach
grants to organizations and ministries meet-
ing human need in our community and
around the world.
Grants must be requested by a member
of the Pullen community who is active with
the organization for which the grant is
sought. Application forms and instructions
are available on the church website at
www.pullen.org/forms and in the church
office. The deadline is Monday, August 10.
We look forward to learning about all of
the wonderful ways Pullen people are making
a difference in our world.

25 Pullenites Needed to Show Up Tuesday at 7 PM to Let City Council Members Know Affordable Housing Matters The Raleigh City Council has been
discussing ways to provide afforda-
ble housing for low income city
residents for years, but the supply
has actually been reduced as our
downtown has developed. While
some council members are very
interested in exploring ways for the
city to address this issue, it is also
possible that the council could vote
to sell city land and allow multi-
story buildings without any require-
ments that would expand affordable
housing in the downtown.
Right now it is expected that this issue will be addressed in a vote on
July 7 at 7:00 PM in the City Council chambers. So it is very important for
those of us who care about housing that lower income residents can afford
to show up and express our views at this meeting.
If you could join fellow Pullenites and people of faith in attendance at
the City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 7, at 7:00 PM, to say that af-
fordable housing matters to you, please contact me at ctamsberg@
pullen.org. This situation is fluid, so I’ll keep all who are interested
updated. Thanks!

an international hunger relief organi-

high protein, dehydrated meals for
use in crisis situations and which
provides a highly nutritious meal to support school feeding programs in
schools and orphanages around the world.
On this Wednesday evening, the Operation Sharehouse Mobile Unit
will come to Pullen so that our children, youth, and adults can pack meals
in Finlator Hall. Childcare will be available for young children. School-
aged children and youth, along with adults of all ability levels, can help
with the packing.
Our meal, which will be a baked potato bar, begins at 5:15 PM
and last until 6:15 PM. After a br ief introduction, we will begin pack-
ing meals our 10,000 meals for Stop Hunger Now. We will stay until the
packing is done, which is usually around 7:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
Volunteers are also needed to help setup and unload supplies be-
ginning at 5:00 PM. Come ear ly for dinner , or come at 6:15 PM to help
pack. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to put a dent in global hunger.

EnSpiriting the Body: A Pullen Conversation For centuries, philosophers and theologians have separated
the mind and the body giving preference to the intellectual
while disparaging the physical. This structure has heralded
minds that think alike and demonized bodies that diverge from
the norm. Creating a binary has had traumatic consequences
for differently gendered, differently abled, differently raced,
and differently sexed bodies. In the realm of the church, the
body is ignored, silenced, or treated with great disrespect.
EnSpiriting the Body is a three-part series offered on
Monday evenings this summer that looks at ways to em-
brace all bodies: Homosexual, Transgender, Heterosexual, Bisexual, Lati-
no, African American, Asian, Caucasian, Elder, Youth, Adult. These Di-
vine Incarnations will intersect with short stories, music, and reflection in
three discussions that will examine ways we are all called to embody com-
munity, love, and justice:
July 27 - Out of the Void. Creation and Genesis set the tone as we look
at our own bodies as points of theological reflection and calls to com-
munity and justice.
August 3 - Signs and Wonders. Touch, spit, drive, wash, listen, chase,
and feed are all verbs associated with Jesus. Using the embodied val-
ues from our creation stories, we will examine communal spiritual
practices that honor and communicate with differing bodies.
August 10 - Around the Table. The final session looks at communion
as embodied justice with the aim of retelling, re-orienting, and re-
enfleshing the whole Body. This series will be led by Brian Crisp at 7:00 PM in the chapel. Brian is a
member of our Pullen family who is currently a PhD student at Vanderbilt
Divinity School. All are welcome to join in this important conversation.
