MATHS PROBLEM OF THE WEEK WINNER FOR WEEK 6 IS:

Charlie Knight! Charlie came up with the answer of a white bear (Polar Bear). The north Pole is the only place on earth where a bear can go south, west and north in equal distances and end up where it started. Great to see lots of entries with creative answers to this 'tricky' problem.

COONABARABRAN PUBLIC SCHOOL

STUDENTS AND STAFF CONGRATULATE MRS WYLLIE AND

MR WYLLIE ON THE BIRTH

OF THEIR BABY GIRL “CHARLI”

The change of seasons is often the time of the year when there is a lull in the sporting calendar but that is not the case for schools at the moment. During the last few weeks there have been the early stages of the winter sports selection process which has seen a number of our students selected to go to the next level of trials in tennis, netball, soccer and rugby league. While the performances have been commendable equally pleasing to me have been the reports on the behaviour and sportsmanship shown by the children from this school at those trials. The swimming culminates with six of our students participating at the State Swimming Trials at Homebush on the last two days of this term. I wish Fergus Atkinson, Darcy Clifton, Jack, Ned and Charlie Isedale and Harry Willoughby all the best for that big day.

Dads’ Brekkie Thank you to all of the dads who took time out to join us for the annual Dads’ Brekkie last Fri-day morning. It was great to see so many males in the school, interacting and having a fabulous time with the children. The Dads’ Brekkie has been going at CPS for quite a number of years now and it is certainly a winner with the kids – they just love showing their dads around! A huge thank you to all of the staff who made this event happen and we look forward to next year’s.

PLEASE HELP OUR P&C WHO INTURN HELPS US

Donations of cakes, slices and sandwiches are wanted for the grandparents day morning tea this Thursday. Please leave at the canteen. Donations of Easter eggs and packaging for the Easter raffle are also needed, thank you to those families who have already donated. Raffle tickets for the Easter raffle will go out with the newsletter this week, they are 50c each.

North West Tennis Trials On March 12, five students from our school travelled to Tamworth to participate in the North West Tennis Trials. These students were Ashleigh Smith, Nick Bowden, Ian Whittall, Bryson Jones and Jarrod Lambert. The students put in their best efforts on the day but unfortunately none were selected. Regardless, the students had a fantastic time and had lots of fun and we congratulate them on their efforts.

We are inviting all seniors and all grandparents to visit our school on Thursday 22 March.

Beginning at 10.30am our students in K-2 will be providing some entertainment under the big awning in front of their classrooms.

A morning tea, organized by our P&C, will follow at 11.00am.

From there seniors and grandparents might like to visit our hall where they will be entertained with a short performance by our clever musicians – the violin, percussion and recorder groups. From the hall everyone can then visit their grandchildren, or students and teachers generally, in their classrooms.

We will have senior students available to show you where to go.

All seniors and grandparents are most welcome. We are all looking forward to your visit.

Mr Lowe works mainly in the K-2 area, supporting teachers and students in reading groups and literacy. He trained in a new program called MINILIT (Meeting Initial Needs In Literacy) which was developed by the same organisation that put out MULTILIT— used with some of our students in Year 2-6. He works intensively with four Year One students every morning (Bradley Barron, Erika Wark, Matson Ayoub and Tyrell Baxter) and hopes to see some significant growth from using MINILIT over this coming semester. Mr Lowe also takes a Year Six maths group and he enjoys seeing students engaging with their learning. We’ve just covered a unit on BODMAS. If you want to know what it stands for you’ll just have to ask one of the many clever people in the class! On a different note, the Chess Club meets Monday and Thursday lunchtimes in the library. Interested students are welcome to come and play with other enthusiastic chess players.
