HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?Jessie Niven

TARGET AUDIENCE

Looking back on my target audience, I asked a range of different aged people (16-50) if they liked fantasy films and the majority said yes. This shows that all ages enjoy fantasy, this made it harder for us to focus on one particular social group. After identifying that it was common for children and younger teenagers to go to the cinema with their parents we decided to aim it at that age category at ages 13-17. If the film was to be released again, we would make sure it is appeal to an older age group.

SOCIAL GROUPS

After deciding our social group we felt it would be a good idea to only incorporate one character to begin with, as we wanted the audience to be building a relationship with her as she is the protagonist throughout our two minuet production.

We looked at stereotypical teens in other films as this is what we wanted our character to be portrayed as. Our character was based on…

Hermione Granger –Harry Potter

The Hunger Games Twilight

MAIN FOCUS Emma – ‘Emma’s Dilemma’Hermione Granger – ‘Harry Potter

and The Prisoner of Azkaban

Casual clothing, jumper , jeans and trainers; showing her to be normal.

Scruffy Hair

Both characters have minimal make up, both shown to be quite young. We did not want our character to look older, we wanted her to be innocent, by putting her in clothing that would not be revealing and looks quite casual. Hermione Granger was the best comparison.

REPRESENTATIONS

We all liked the costume for our character as it managed to represent simplicity and comfort as we didn’t want Emma to be threatening.

We deliberately chose our character to be working class, as we wanted to give the impression that she was ‘normal’.

Having her wear little make up and non-revealing clothes makes her appear to be younger or naive

All of these representations build an image about our character and shows how we wanted her to look.
