The Envisioning

I looked at the poster, magazine and trailer of Donnie Darko to see how they all interlinked.

The poster has different scenes from the film all put together with a blue colour. The main characters are larger. The image makes up ‘Frank’

The magazine follows the conventions of the Empire film issue, though has a large image of Donnie (the main character) taken from the film.

The trailer focuses on the main characters, with a similar blue colour as in the poster.

I chose to have a similar theme in my poster, magazine and trailer.

In the trailer, I used VHS like effects, such as ‘Prism’ and ‘Bad TV’

An example of ‘Bad TV’ taken from my trailer.

An example of ‘Prism’ used in the trailer.

The ‘Bad TV’ effect was similar to how I had made the font of ‘The Envisioning’

I downloaded a font called Nervousthough was not happy with how it looked alone. I then edited the font on Photoshop, using the Liquify tool. This created a wave-like effect.

I had created anaglyph/ 3D photographs in Photography, so was able to change the levels and opacity to create the same ‘Prism’ effect.

It was a lot harder to incorporate the VHS effect into the magazine as we had to follow the conventions of a typical film

magazine.

I liked the ‘Film’ part of this poster, where the masthead had been changed to suit the theme.

This shows how two characters which do not necessarily get along have been portrayed in an existing film poster.

Here was the final magazine. To include the VHS effect, I applied a motion blur to Fae. Fae is much lower, showing the distance between Ellie and Fae, highlighting how Fae is not real and is far away from Ellie, also highlighting they are ‘enemies’.

I chose to include my own twist on the title, with the ‘It Should Have Been You’, as this makes it seem like this issue has been made to focus on The Envisioning.
