2. RequirementsPLANETGEPONOLT provides aGUI utility andWeb page tomanage the system.YoucanalsousetheconsolecablewithterminalemulatortomanagetheOLT.

Thefollowingequipmentisnecessaryforfurthermanagement:

SubscriberPCisinstalledwithEthernetNIC(NetworkCard)

EMSSoftware(WindowsPlatform)

Management Port connection

z Networkcables--Usestandardnetwork(UTP)cableswithRJ45connectors

TheabovePCisinstalledwithWebbrowser.

Serial Port Connection (Terminal)

z The above Workstations come with COM Port (DB9) or USB-to-RS232converter.

z The aboveWorkstations have been installed with terminal emulator, such asHyperTerminalincludedinWindowsXP/2003.

z Serial cable -- one end is attached to theRS232 serial port,while the otherendtotheconsoleportoftheOLT.

Note

It isrecommendedtouseInternetExplorer8.0orabovetoaccessthe OLT. If theWeb interface of the OLT is not accessible, pleaseturnofftheanti-virussoftwareorfirewallandthentryitagain.

3. EMS Installation1.Download the EMS software from PLANET website (as shown in the QR codebelow).Afterunzippingthezipfile,youwillseetheEMS-ServerandEMS-Clientexecutionfiles.Next,double-clicktheEMS-Server to install.

2.Once the Setup program starts running, please click the “Next” button for starting installation.

3.Duringtheinstallation,itwillaskfortheplacetoputtheEMSfolder.

4. Click the “Close”buttonforcompletingtheEMS-ServerSetup.

5.WhentheEMS-Serverinstallationisdone,theiconwillappearonthedesktop.

6.Then double-click EMS-Client to install the utility. Once the Setup programstartsrunning,pleaseclickthe“Next” button for starting installation.

7.Duringtheinstallation,itwillaskfortheplacetoputtheEMSfolder.

8. Click the “Close”buttonforcompletingtheEMS-ClientSetup.

4. Starting EMS ManagementEPL-2220

The following shows how to start up the EMS Management of the GEPON OLT.Pleasenote theGEPONOLT is configured throughanEthernet connection,makingsure the manager PC must be set to the same IP subnet address.

For example, the default IP address of the GEPON OLT is 192.168.8.100 (thefactory default IP address), then the manager PC should be set to 192.168.8.x(where x is a number between 1 and 254, except 100), and the default subnetmask is 255.255.255.0.

Logging to the GEPON OLT1.Double-clicktheEMS-ServericononthePCdesktoptostarttheEMSServer.

2.Aftertheserverstarted,pleasedouble-clicktheEMS-Clienticon.

3.Entertheusernameandpassword.Pleaseenterthedefaultusername“root”,password“root”,server“127.0.0.1”andport“5188”asscreen inFigure4-2appears.

4.After entering the user name and password, the EMS utility main screen willappearasinFigure4-3.

5.Right-clickonthe“map”andselect“Add Device”toaddtheOLT.

6.Enter the management IP of OLT and select Read community to public, Writecommunity to private.

5. Starting Web ManagementThe following shows how to start up the Web Management of the GEPONOLT. To configure the Web system, connect a UTP cable to an Ethernet port ona workstation and to the management port of the GEPON OLT. Note the OLT isconfigured through an Ethernet connection. Please make sure the manager PCmust be set to the same IP subnet address.

For example, the default IP address of the OLT is 192.168.8.100, then themanager PC should be set to192.168.8.x (where x is a number between1 and254,except100),andthedefaultsubnetmaskis255.255.255.0.

Logging in the GEPON OLT1.Use Internet Explorer 8.0 or above Web browser and enter IP address

http://192.168.8.100(thefactorydefaultIPaddressortheonethatyouhavechangedinconsole)toaccesstheWebinterface.

2.When the followingdialogboxappears,pleaseenter thedefaultusernameandpassword“admin” (or the password youhave changed via console). The loginscreeninFigure5-2appears.

3.Afterenteringthepassword,themainscreenappearsasFigure5-3shows.

The menu on the left of the Web page lets you access all the commands andstatisticstheOLTprovides.

Now, you can use the Web management interface to continue the OLTmanagementormanagetheOLTbyconsoleinterface.

6. Terminal SetupTo configure the system, connect a serial cable to a COM port on a PC or notebookcomputerandtoRJ45typeofserialportoftheGEPONOLT.

AterminalprogramisrequiredtomakethesoftwareconnectiontotheOLT.

1.RunterminalprogramontheOS.

2.When the following screen appears, make sure that the COM port should beconfiguredas:

z Baud:115200

z Databits:8

z Parity:None

z Stopbits:1

z Flowcontrol:None

7. Logging on to ConsoleOnce the terminal is connected to the device, power on the GEPONOLT and theterminal will display “running testing procedures”. Then, the following messageasks to log in user name and password. The factory default user name andpasswordareshownasfollowsandtheloginscreeninFigure7-1appears.

Theuser cannowenter commands tomanage theOLT. For adetaileddescriptionofthecommands,pleaserefertothefollowingchapters.

Note

1.Forsecurity reason,pleasechangeandmemorize thenewpass-wordafterthisfirstsetup.

2.Only accept command in lowercase letter under console inter-face.

Show the current IP Address1.Atthe“(config-if-aux)#”prompt,enter“show aux ip address”.

2.ThescreendisplaysthecurrentIPaddressasshowninFigure8-1.

Configuring IP Address3.At the “(config-if-aux)#” prompt, enter the following command and press

<Enter>asshowninFigure8-2.

epon-olt(config-if-aux)# ip address 192.168.1.100 255.255.255.0

epon-olt(config-if-aux)#

ThepreviouscommandwouldapplythefollowingsettingsfortheManagedSwitch.

4.Repeatstep1tocheckiftheIPaddressischanged.

Store current OLT configuration5.At the “(config-if-aux)#” prompt, enter the following command and press

<Enter>.

epon-olt(config-if-aux)# write

If the IP is successfully configured, theOLTwill apply the new IP address settingimmediately. You can access the Web interface of the OLT through the new IPaddress.

Note

If you are not familiar with the console command or the relatedparameter, enter “help” anytime in console to get the help description.
