Only one week to go until the end of term, so don’t forget that we dismiss at 2.30pm next Friday (22nd September) following a 2.00pm assembly. Swimming is well underway and the feedback from staff at Splashdown as to the behaviour of our students is excellent. They each speak of the children’s manners, ability to listen and then follow instructions. We are immensely proud of how they all represent PLPS and grateful to parents who are assisting too. Today we have had a performance by our Kelly Dance students, a presentation about a planned girls football clinic by past student Josie Horne and the P-2 team enjoyed rocket and space-craft making with the Urban Up-cycle team. Congratulations to Lucy Cooper and Jack Connell who will both be presented with awards for their writing on the topic “City vs Country, which is best?” as part of the Rotary Club of Queenscliff’s Frank Moumford Literacy Award. They will be attending a dinner at Athelstone House on Monday evening. We have a group of student writers busily drafting, editing, publishing and recording short vignettes for our “podcast” and published work entitled “This Borough Life”. We have published a couple of teasers on the reverse of today’s newsletter. It is wonderful to watch both skills and confidence develop as we all grapple with the finely tuned recording technology and the subtleties of telling a story for voice only. We are hopeful that our stories may form part of some future interpretive work with the Borough of Queenscliffe. Save the date - October 21st & 22nd for a great weekend of comic book and zine creation for all ages at our Hall. We have Dean Rankine - Artist for the Simpsons comic books, ’Zine’ designers and artists coming to town to workshop their skills with interested attendees. There will also be a ‘shop front’ where you will be able to purchase drawing materials, zines, books etc. A make-a-zine session with a guerrilla style zine drop and so much more. You may have noticed some new and returning faces at school over past weeks as we have replaced leave and filled some short term vacancies. Ms Sue Frith returned to the Admin. Team and Chivonne Ford has joined the Early Years Team in a support role. Mrs Dennis has been appointed to the short term Early Years position for the remainder of 2017. We are hopeful of appointing another short term support role in future weeks. Even though we have only 1 week to go please do not send ill children to school. This season’s flu has been particularly virulent and many have been struck down more than once. Better to recover now than spend the holidays housebound. Encourage and remind your children about handwashing and sneezing into their elbow. Looking forward to next term, we will be involved in numerous community events including work on ideas for the Avenue of Honour, Interschool Sport, QMF Kids Concert, our own Bush Dance, Rock-it Music incursion, Choir/Choir aka sing@lonnie, Movie Night and the Lighting of the Christmas Tree to name a few. So rest up as it will be busy !! Fay Appreciations

HATS ON DAY September 1st
No hat, no outside play
In a very small boat in a very big river were Bob and Craig. “I wish we’d catch a fish already,” said
Craig. “Your wish is my command,” said a fat frog floating out of the water.
A large bluegill flip – flopped on to the boat, just as the frog had promised. “Sweet!” cried Bob.
“You have two more wishes, children,” said the frog powerfully. “Ok,” said Bob, “I want to be a
famous explorer!
POOF! Craig, Bob and the frog were transported to a jungle. “You silly Bob!” cried Craig. “We’re going to
be lost in this jungle forever!” And they were indeed lost in the heart of the jungle, until Bob cried
“WAHH! I-I w-wish I n-n-never met t-this st-stupid f-fr-frog!”
“Ok,” chimed the frog. “But I’m not stupid,”
POOF! Bob and Craig were teleported to their small boat. “Well Bob,” said Craig, “I learnt something today.” “W-What?” spluttered Bob, “Never talk to strange frogs.” By Manny Madden
Grades 3/4 have been writing amazing stories about wishes,
encouraging great and imaginative writing
The White Lighthouse Looking over us as we grow, I see it.
Standing proud and tall, I see it.
Guarding our community, I see it.
You want to know what I see?
I see the star to my sky,
I see the memory that will last for generations.
I see The White Lighthouse

Shark Bite
I was down Ocean Grove at the beach near the Surf Life Saving Club House, trying to ride my 8 ft.
board for the first time, I knew it was too big for me but that didn’t matter. I was going to catch a
really big wave that was way taller than me, it took a while for the right wave to come but eventually
I could see it. I started to paddle, but as soon as I was about to jump up, a siren roared from the club
house. I saw almost everyone in the water desperately trying to get out of the water. People in red
and yellow uniforms running at top speed to help. And then the next thing I knew my board had
nose-dived and sent me flying into the water. The wave had taken my board and my leg rope
detached. I had to get to the beach before the shark got to me. I could see my board washed up on
the sand, then when I was least expecting it another wave crashed right down on me, turning me
around in the water. I hit my head on the sand below and slowly but desperately swam to the top to catch my breath, I
looked around to check if there was another wave coming, I figured I could use it as a short cut out. When the wave
came I swam as fast as I could and rode it into shore. I wiped the salty water off my face and I could see life guards
coming to pull me in. After I was up on the beach I was reunited with my board and shook off my temporary
headache. I decided to head home after a very eventful day, but I was sure I was going to come back and conquer the
wave.
