Nakamura Choukou Co., Ltd., in collaboration with Tokyo University,
developed an innovative production process for zeolite nano-particles
by utilizing the crushing and recrystallizing technology held by
the University, and succeeded in production of low-cost nano-sized
zeolite powder.
While maintaining zeolite’s inherent functions such as adsorption, this
technology allows to minimize the particle size to 50 - 300 nm.
By minimizing the particle size to an unnoticeable level by human five
senses, this technology does not damage the basic properties and
esthetics of the target objects to which the function is added. The
technology opens the door to possibilities widely, for example, optical
application which requires light transparency, and addition to tiny fibers.

This is a representative zeolite with strong hydrophilicity and it has a composition which is the same number of coordination of Si and Al. The pore size depends on the type of ionic coordinates in the molecular skeleton, and it is called together with the pore size as "4 A zeolite" because it shows 0.3 nano for K+ion, 0.4 nano for Na+ ion and 0.5 nano for Ca2+ ion. Zeolite flourish in such as gas and liquid dehydrating mate-rial and antimicrobial by ion-supporting. By refining this Linde Type A zeolite, it has been an attention material that is expected to improve
adsorption rate and optical function.

ZSM-5 is a representative high silica synthetic zeolite, its structural cord is
MFI, the unit cell composition is Nan[Al
nSi
96-nO
192]・xH
2O .Composition can be
freely changed in the range of n<27 by control of Al concentration during
synthesis process.
The hydrophobicity of ZSM-5 will increase with decreasing Al concentration.
In particular, ZSM-5 that does not inclued Al (n=0) is called silicalite-1 and
has high hydrophobicity. The pore size is slightly larger than the benzene ring
and it is known to exhibit selectivity specific to the catalytic reaction of
aromatic hydrocarbons. ZSM-5 is widely used as a catalyst in petrochemical
products, and is also used as a hydrophobic adsorbent. Furthermore, it is
also helpful as a material for automobile exhaust gas purification catalyst.
By nano-sizing ZSM-5, we believe that it can improve several performances
as a catalyst and increase adsorption speed as an adsorbent.
