FastFrame systems details
FastFrame is a division of Plastestrip, itself part of the global Amari group and a market leader in the manufacture and supply of PVC and aluminium extrusions and cladding systems to the construction industry. Founded in 1959, Plastestrip has been based in St Austell for the last 40 years and still has family connections working within the company. Customer service is a critical element of Plastestrips’ mission statement and it has achieved continued growth by exceeding its customers’ demands. Always aware of its customer’s needs, Plastestrip is constantly involved in the innovation of new solutions to customers’ problems. High calibre products, available on time and at the right price, has been the company’s guiding ethos from the outset and remains so today. Plastestrip has a philosophy
of continuous improvement in its products and their manufacture, maximising the benefits to customer and end user alike. The business has been built through on-going relationships with its customers and partners. Plastestrip believes that business is done between people – not between companies and strives to deliver added value through strategic technical and marketing services in addition to quality products along with the timely deliveries they have come to expect. Quality is in the detail at Plastestrip and it has always gone above and beyond accepted standards to bring its customers the benefits of products and materials that stand the test of time. Plastestrip incorporates dozens of innovations into its products, many of which cannot be seen, yet which put its products at the leading edge of the industry.
Plastestrip’s principal partnerships are with its customers, but in order to provide them with the best products and services, Plastestrip also partners with only the most reliable suppliers. The FastFrame solution has been developed in close consultation with these partners, end-users and specialist cladding contractors.
● Hi-Spec is a leading structural engineering company specialising in rain-screen cladding solutions and worked closely with the Plastestrip design team on the development of the FastFrame system.
● EJOT is one of the world’s most prominent and reliable manufacturers of fastener and anchor systems. Anchoring the framing to the building structure is a critical aspect of any cladding system and to this end Plastestrip has partnered with leading fastener manufacture, EJOT Fastener Systems.
● Sika is the global leader for one-part polyurethane based sealants and elastic adhesives and offers a wide range of solutions for sealing and bonding. Plastestrip acknowledge the quality and reliability of Sika structural adhesive systems for bonding cladding panels to the FastFrame façade support system.
The FastFrame solution offers a multitude of benefits not found in other systems, speeding installation and by doing so, offering a more reliable, cost-reduced façade support system. The FastFrame component bracket also resolves issues with other current rail and bracket aluminium framing systems. The unique design of the three-part folded aluminium bracket features a base leg much thicker than the thickness of the stalk leg. As the performance of the bracket is directly related to the thickness of its base leg, this ensures that FastFrame brackets can easily withstand the total stresses placed upon it by its own weight, the forces of the wind and the weight of the façade.
Isolation of the bracket from the building substructure is essential, both for thermal and long term reliability purposes. Without a form of inert material between the aluminium bracket and the building, corrosion will eventually occur, weakening the framing and shortening the life of the installation. This aspect is not to be underestimated as the failure of corroded brackets could result in a disastrous failure of the whole façade. By incorporating a to ugh integral PVC clip to secure the ‘L’ piece and the base plate together, this essential isolation barrier cannot be inadvertently omitted, while at the same time speeding installation.
The design of the highly efficient FastFrame bracket also yields long term environmental benefits, contributing to meeting Building Regulation Part ‘L’ by limiting heat conduction away from the building and lowering heating costs. A further benefit of the stronger isolated bracket is that it facilitates wider spanning and, in many cases, a reduction in the number of brackets required to secure the façade. This brings significant savings in terms of materials and particularly in installation time.

FastFrame systems details
Depending on the weight and dimensions of the cladding panels to be attached to the frame and the calculated wind loading, a combination of single and double brackets may be employed. 10 bracket sizes from 65mm to 240mm are available, covering cavities from 80 to 280mm.The brackets are universal for both fixed point and floating point rail support and all forms of brick, block-work, concrete, masonry, timber and light steel frame (LSF). A bespoke design service is offered where the customer needs to dictate a non-standard bracket size.
This low component count enables Plastestrip to hold extensive stocks, ensuring prompt delivery to site and eliminating costly delays while the installation team await materials.
The FastFrame system comprises only three main components
● Precision engineered from 3mm structural grade aluminium to 3mm 5000 structural grade aluminium
● Suitable for fixing to brick, block work, concrete. LSF, masonry and timber
● Designed for fixed and floating point
● Integral isolation pad of heat stabilised, high rigidity PVC
● Integral rail location clip to aid initial positioning.
● Standard sizes 65mm to 240mm – bespoke sizes available to order
● Bracket adjustability 25mm for the 65mm bracket and 32mm for all other sizes

Installation guide
To ensure correct bracket spacing, size and correct fi xings, a FastFrame Project Checklist must be completed and sent to Plastestrip Profi les for calculations.
The project calculations based on the checklist you submit will determine the layout of the single and/or double brackets. Single & double brackets achieve a 80 - 280mm standoff as standard, other sizes are possible and made bespoke. Stand off s greater than 300mm require aditional cross bracing and we do not advise having a stand off of greater than 400mm unless being used in a soffi t application.
The FastFrame bracket is a unique, three part component which, by design, allows much greater fi xing centres and therefore, will become more cost eff ective per metre square than a weaker bracket.
Stand off s of 70 - 80mm are possible using a 40mm leg T rail and the 40mm leg of the angle rail. This must be calculated for as the short back leg reduces the strength of the spanning rails. Unless otherwise stated, the rails mentioned on the returns sheet are the only ones that have been calculated for.
The return sheet you are issued with gives the maximum bracket centres achievable based on the information you have fi lled in on the checklist. If any values are marked up in red on the checklist or returns sheet then these values have been assumed by Plastestrip and must be verifi ed by the installer / client before installation. Failure to check these values may aff ect your warranty.
General rules of installation:• Spans, vertical centres & cantilevers must never be
greater than those on your returns sheet.• A cantilever must never be more than the calculations
specify or 50% of the span it is adjacent to, whichever is smaller.
• Rails must always be installed vertically. • All fi xings must be stainless steel and as specifi ed in the
calculations returns sheet.

When fi xing FastFrame brackets into concrete, a pull out test must be performed to verify the strength of the masonry. All drill holes should be thoroughly cleaned out and free from dust and grit before fi xings are inserted.
When fi xing FastFrame brackets into concrete, ensure the fi xings are placed in the larger elongated holes with the collar of the frame anchor plug on the face of the bracket.
When fi xing FastFrame brackets onto steel or timber substrates, please ensure there are 2 fastners per single bracket or 4 per double bracket and that they are placed in the smaller 6.5mm holes.
When fi xing to timber studs, always ensure that a pull out test is performed to confi rm the strength of the material.
Always ensure that brackets are fi xed through any shiething panels and in to a structural steel or timber stud. It not possible to fi x brackets on to cement board, OSB or thin ply alone. Thicker plys like 18mm WBP or 25mm WBP are acceptable providing they are deemed as structural and calculated for.
We can off er a simple solution when the brackets need to be installed between the studs. A horizontal steel tophat can be used to create a structural mounting surface to fi x the brackets on to.
Use:• ST/TH/30/30/100 to mount single brackets on • ST/TH/30/30/185 to mount double brackets on

Fixed point bracketThe PCF/4/4.8x19 bracket to rail fi xings are positioned at the bottom of the slotted holes to take the vertical deadload of the rail as well as the windload.
Tee railsWhere vertical joints occur within the cladding facade a Tee Rail should be inserted into the bracket clip.
Fixing to rail faceWhen fi xing to the rail faces, always ensure that you have at least 2x the thickness of the fi xing (or 10mm, whichever is greater) between the fi xing centrepoint and the leg or edge of the rail (dim A). There must be at least 3x the thickness (or 15mm, whichever is greater) between the fi xing and the bottom of the rail (dim B).
An individual rail will usually have only one fi xed point bracket and the rest will be fl oating to allow for expansion. Consult your calculations return sheet for the locations of the fi xed and fl oating point brackets on each rail length range.
RAILS MUST ALWAYS BE INSTALLED VERTICALLY!
EVERY SLOTTED HOLE ON THE OUTSTANDING LEG SHOULD BE USED WHEN FIXING RAILS INTO BRACKETS. NO HOLES SHOULD BE LEFT EMPTY.
Floating point bracketsThe PCF/4/4.8x19 bracket to rail fi xings are positioned in the middle of the slotted holes to allow the rails to expand and contract. These brackets only take wind load and minimal deadload.
Angle / L railsWhere intermediate panel support is required, insert an Angle Rail. Adjust where necessary.

CantileversWhen you recieve your bracket spacings back from us, they will dictate how much the rail can sail past the bracket unsupported. There MUST ALWAYS be a 10mm gap between rails going up the facade. Panels MUST NEVER span over rail joints. Support rails SHOULD NEVER span over the buildings movement joints unless specifi cally engineered to do so.
Rail joiningIf you wish to join a rail to use off cuts then this is ok providing you do the following:• Use a 200mm joining piece of FIX/ANG/HD/60/40.• Use 8 stitching screws, 4 in each side.• All screws must be at least 15mm from any rail edge.• There must be at least 2 brackets each side of the join on
the rail being joined.
The insulation does not interfere with the rails or fi xings.
It is ideal if the airgap between the insulation and the face of the rails is greater than 60mm. This means that the rails will not interfere with the insulation. If the airgap is smaller than 60mm then the rails may have to be cut into the insualtion. It is up to the installer to check if this aff ects the u-values or if it is permitted by the specifi cation.
The insulation will have to be cut away to allow the leg of the rails to be fi tted but will not aff ect the fi xing of the rail to the bracket.
The insulation will have to be cut away to allow the leg of the rails to be fi tted and the rail to bracket fi xing is under the surface of the insulation making it very hard to fi t.
All stand off s greater than 300mm should be cross braced as per the detail shown here. This needs to be on the top and bottom bracket of one rail every 3m going across the facade.
As a guide, for a wall 3m high and 12m wide you will require and extra 20 x 65mm brackets and a 10 x short lengths of angle rail to brace.
An individual rail will usually have only one fi xed point bracket and the rest will be fl oating to allow for expansion. Consult your calculations return sheet for the locations of the fi xed and fl oating point brackets on each rail length range.

We can also offer full take offs based on your project drawings. We will first offer a metre square rate on a small indicative area of the project and if that is accepted and a partial order is placed, we can then work out how many of each component is required for the whole building based on your *cad drawings.
* In order for us to do the take off, we must have the final panel layout drawings in .dwg format along with any elevations detailing substrate design and location (also required in dwg).
Full component take off
18 19
As well as the take off, we can also draw a layout of the brackets and rails on to your **elevations showing you where each and every component goes in a easy to read drawing that can be printed out and given to the installers on site.
** In order for us to do the layout drawings, we must have the final panel layout drawings in .dwg format along with any elevations detailing substrate design and location (also required in dwg).
