PRESIDENT’S REPORTThis year we have had a great start.The CASS Art of Sydney Awards &Exhibition held at Darling Harbour onJan, 24th -Jan 27th was a huge successwith a record number of entries fromRAS members and an outstandingnumber of awards won.Congratulations to MargaretMorscheck who received the CASSHonours award.Our wonderful display at SydneyChildren's Hospital SummerExhibition has come to a close. Lotsof positive feedback was receivedand a total of 3 paintings were sold.Congratulations to all winners,entrants and volunteers. During thesummer break a lot of work has beengoing on in the background towardsour annual exhibition in May. A newhanging team has been negotiated,new nylon chords and hooks havebeen purchased and Judges booked,just to name a few. The new, revisedentry form has now been sent out soplease read instructions carefully.You will have plenty of time to workon your next masterpieces.Last week at the AGM a newcommittee was elected.

WorkshopsRAS will be running a watercolourdemonstration at RLI from 10am -12midday on Monday 8th April.Carla Hananiah from Jasco PTY LTD will be demonstrating a watercolour landscape piece. There will be a hands on time for everyone to experiment and experience various materials including Winsor & Newton colours. All brushes, paint and paper will be provided. Entry is only $5.00 for both members and non members.

RAS Art ClassesExciting news members!RAS Art Classes on NOW with Niki Koeppl- every Monday in March 2019 from 10am-12pm $5 attendance per class.Week 1 Mon 4th MarchExperimental drawingPlease bring charcoal or graphite drawing equipment, cartridge paper either large sheets on a drawing board or your sketch bookFixative available to purchase or BYO

Week 2 Mon 11thWatercolourLearn to create various tones and shades using a limited palette. Bring your watercolour paints, brushes and appropriate watercolour paper

Week 3 Mon 18thAbstracts with acrylicsBring acrylic paints and a surface to paint on such as a canvas, heavy weight paper or board. Sketch books and drawing equipment are also beneficial for this class.

Week 4 Mon 25thSculpture! Demo only - OR - additional fees to participate.Amazing all weather Sculpting material called Pal Tiya.Class will have the opportunity to purchase an art kit including a small amount of sculpture material, aluminium foil, latex gloves, dust mask for an extra $5 if you would like to join in the art activity Niki will be demonstrating. Sculpting tools and a few hot glue guns will be available to use but if you have your own please bring along. You will go home with a small sculpture you will make in class that can be left outdoors in your garden!

Combined Art Societies of Sydney Exhibition

RAS are proud to share with you the results of our very talented artists and congratulate all winners, award recipients, entrants and volunteers from the CASS “29th ART of Sydney Awards Exhibition” held at the National Maritime Museum Darling Harbour Sydney.Feed back:"I think Randwick is the most successful society in terms of awards this year. An absolutely stunning result under your leadership." Phil McKay (RAS delegate)“Congratulations to all the RAS artists who won awards or were selected as Finalists. And thank you to all the wonderful RAS helpers who worked so tirelessly, over the intake and judging last weekend, at Bankstown." Dee Jackson (Combined Art Society).

This year Margaret Morscheck was nominated and received a CASS Honors Award. This award was given in recognition of Margaret's service and dedication to RAS. RAS would like to thank her for all that she has done and continues to do.RAS was very well represented with 14 of it's members being chosen to exhibit. Not only was there a record number of 452 paintings entered & over 300 on show but the standard of work was amazing.
