MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

MOT DU PRÉSIDENT

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, it is an honour to present the Annual Report of The New Brunswick Community College Foundation Inc., for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2019.

Our financial statements show that the Foundation’s investments continue to have positive results, in line with the double objectives set by the members of the Board of Trustees : to protect the assets obtained from generous donors while awarding as many bursaries and scholarships as possible.

In our 11th year of bursary and scholarship awards, we granted a total of 783 awards with a new record total value of 791,103 dollars.

The Board wishes to thank in particular all of our donors. Without their tremendous generosity, we would not have been able to award as many bursaries, scholarships and awards to help alleviate some of the financial needs of students attending the New Brunswick Community College, the Collège communautaire du Nouveau- Brunswick, and the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design.

Congratulations to all of the last year’s award winners and best wishes for success in your studies and in your career!

Also, I would like to personally thank the Board members for their dedication and their commitment to the cause of improving access to college education here in New Brunswick, our home province.

Au nom du Conseil des fiduciaires, c’est un honneur de présenter le rapport annuel de La Fondation du Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick Inc. pour l’exercice financier qui s’est terminé le 31 mars 2019.

Nos états financiers démontrent que les investissements de la Fondation continue à avoir des résultats positifs conformément au double objectif que les membres du Conseil des fiduciaires se sont fixés : protéger les avoirs obtenus grâce aux généreux donateurs et donatrices tout en attribuant le plus de bourses d’études possibles.

À notre 11e année de remise de bourses et de bourses d’études, nous avons accordé un total de 783 bourses avec une nouvelle valeur record totalisant 791 103 dollars.

Le Conseil tient à remercier en particulier tous nos dona-teurs et nos donatrices. Sans leur générosité formidable, nous n’aurions pu accorder autant de bourses, de bourses d’études et de prix pour aider à soulager certains des besoins financiers des étudiantes et étudiants qui fréquen-tent le Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick, le New Brunswick Community College et le New Brunswick College of Craft and Design.

Félicitations à tous les lauréats de la dernière année et meilleurs vœux de succès dans vos études et dans votre carrière!

The Board of Trustees consists of three areas of represen-tation: NBCC, CCNB and NBCCD Management, students/alumni, and donors. Trustees serve without remuneration and on a volunteer basis.

Le Conseil des fiduciaires est composé de trois secteurs de représentation, soit : la haute direction du CCNB, du NBCC et du NBCCD, des étudiants/diplômés, et des donateurs et donatrices. Les fiduciaires donnent bénévolement de leur temps et ne reçoivent aucune rémunération.

The invested capital of the Foundation continued to grow in 2018-2019. As of March 31, the total value of invested capital stood at $11.4M. This represents an increase of $1.3M from the previous year, thanks to continuing donations, both large and small, and to the money management efforts of both our Board of Trustees and our investment firm partners.

Le capital investi de la Fondation a continué de croître en 2018-2019. Au 31 mars, la valeur totale du capital investi s’élevait à 11,4M $. Cela représente une augmentation de 1,3M $ de l’année précédente, grâce aux dons continus, grands et petits, et pour la saine gestion des finances et des efforts déployés par notre Conseil des fiduciaires et nos partenaires d’entreprise d’investissement.

For distributed awards, this year was a record year with a total of 783 bursaries, awards and scholarships provided to community college students with an overall value of $791,103. This brings our total since inception in 2007 to 5,132 awards at a value of over $4.89M. The outstanding partnerships that exists between donors, CCNB, NBCC, NBCCD and the Foundation has been instrumental to the overall success of our various bursary programs.

Pour ce qui est des bourses distribuées, cette année a été une année record avec un total de 783 bourses, prix et bourses d’études remis aux étudiants des collèges communautaires avec une valeur globale de 791 103 $. Cela porte notre total depuis la création en 2007 à 5 132 bourses d’une valeur de plus de 4,89M $. Les partenariats exceptionnels qui existent entre les donateurs, le CCNB, le NBCC, le NBCCD et la Fondation ont contribué à la réussite globale de nos divers programmes de bourses.

AARAO Scholarship (1 @ 500 dollars) benefits a NBCC full-time student entering the member institution directly from their final year of secondary school which was visited by the AARAO tour. En 2014 a été célébré le 150e anniversaire de l’arrivée des Pères de Sainte-Croix en Acadie. Plus de 330 religieux de Sainte-Croix, pères et frères, ont œuvré en Acadie durant un siècle et demi, principalement en éducation, mais aussi en pastorale paroissiale, en animation de retraites, de sessions psycho-spirituelles, et en aumôneries. / This bursary benefits New Brunswick francophone high school graduates registered at CCNB; 5 students from the New Brunswick Kent and Westmorland counties and the balance to the other New Brunswick counties. In 2014, the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the Fathers of Sainte-Croix in Acadia was celebrated. More than 330 Sainte-Croix religious, fathers and brothers, worked in Acadia during a century and a half, mainly in education, but also in parish work, in animation of retreats, psycho-spiritual sessions, and chaplaincies.

Cette bourse d’études s’assure que les droits de scolarité, les manuels et fournitures scolaires et les frais sont couverts et prévoit une allocation mensuelle pour les autres frais liés aux études. / This scholarship benefits students, in good academic standing, in the following programs at NBCC: Welding, Welding and Metal Fabrication, Steel Fabrication or in Welding Technology and at CCNB: Soudage, Façonnage et montage métalliques, Mécanique industrielle (Millwright) and Technologie du génie du soudage (2 per college). Piercy’s family and friends believe that being able to help someone go on to acquire a post-secondary education is a positive way to remember Tyson Piercy and to heal from their loss. He passed away in October 2007 at the age of 19. / Cette bourse d’études bénéficie un étudiant de l’école secondaire Fredericton High School inscrit au CCNB, au NBCC ou au NBCCD avec un besoin financier documenté. La famille et les amis de Tyson Piercy pensent qu’être capable d’aider quelqu’un à continuer à acquérir une éducation postsecondaire est une façon positive de le commémorer et aider à surmonter leur tristesse. Il est décédé en octobre 2017 à l’âge de 19 ans.

Walker Wood Foundation Scholarship / Bourse d’études Walker Wood Foundation (2 @ 1,000 dollars) benefits first year students from a high school with the Atlantic Provinces: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland & Labrador, Canadian citizens with a demonstrated financial need, involved in extracurricular activities and admitted with a minimum 80 percen-tile and for the duration of the study. This scholarship is renewable for the duration of their program and is applied towards student tuition fees. The Foundation was established in 2006 by Neil C.W. Wood and his wife Susan following the sale of some of their corpo-rate assets. / Cette bourse d’études bénéficie les étudiants de première année d’une école secondaire des provinces de l’Atlantique: Nouveau-Brunswick, Nouvelle-Écosse, Île-du-Prince-Édouard et Terre-Neuve & Labrador, citoyens canadiens avec un besoin financier documenté, participant activement dans des activités parascolaires et admis avec une moyenne minimale de 80 pour cent et pour la durée de ses études à temps plein. Cette bourse d’études est renouvelable pour la durée de son programme et est versée envers les droits de scolarité de l’étudiant. La Fondation a été créée en 2006 par Neil C.W.
