Welcome to Rawlins – a Church of England Academy We’re very proud to welcome you to Rawlins and look forward to the exciting part you will play in our school community over the coming years. We know

that this year has offered new and unusual challenges to our usual programme of transition activities.

This PASSPORT TO TRANSITION is designed with 20 activities which offer our brand new Year 7’s opportunities to develop skills, independence and interests

that will complement their academic work next year, and help them exemplify our Rawlins Values and Vision;

Act wisely and make the most of every opportunity

Developing Trust | Inspiring Hope | Building Success | Shaping the Future

Through:

The PASSPORT TO TRANSITION will recognise pupils who wish to challenge themselves in new ways, learn new things and hone new skills. These challenges

will focus on pupils’ physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Each activity relates to one of our values.

4 easy steps to success

Read through the challenges: There are 20 options and you should aim to complete at least 10 during your summer break. Can you complete all 20?

Plan ahead: Set a plan of how many challenges you want to achieve by the end of the day/ week/month.

Get active: Complete each activity and show this to an adult (be proud of what you have done). Perhaps take some photos or videos as evidence. You can email them to your tutor in the final week of your holidays if you wish?

Share your success: Be prepared to share or talk about what you have achieved. The PASSPORT TO TRANSITION will form part of your induction day at Rawlins.

1 2 3 4

Most importantly of all: Please do not stress about these activities! We hope that you take the opportunity to get involved and we look forward to hearing your results.

PASSPORT TO TRANSITION – The Activities

Create an ‘activity’ diary. Each day for two weeks record what active things you have done and for how long. Write about how you feel after each activity, and at the end of each week.

Ring, have a video call or write a letter to friend, neighbour or family member who you have not seen for a while. Tell them what you have been doing and find out how they are.

Learn five useful phrases in a language you have never spoken before. When you think you know them, teach them to a family member.

Either complete a Joe Wicks Body Coach workout with your family (you can find lots of these on YouTube) or complete a #ThisisPE’ session. You can find the playlist of these here #ThisisPE

Read and prepare a book report. Reading for pleasure is a big part of life at Rawlins, and we’re always keen to hear what you’ve been reading and what you thought about it.

Create a ‘Play Your Cards Right’ game using landmarks/ places on them. Each card has a value depending on how important you think it is to the world today Play the game with your family.

Either complete a ‘Just Dance’ session with your family OR complete an online yoga or Zumba class with your family. You can find all of these for free on YouTube.

Help plan, prepare and cook a meal. Look at what is in the cupboards and think about what you can make. Ask an adult for help with the cooking and invite everyone to sit together and eat.

Design a new sports kit for your favourite team. You could also design a new badge to compliment your kit.

Go for a 3K or 5K run/walk/bike ride with your family. Remember to socially distance and give everyone a big smile and ‘hello!’ as you pass.

Collect all the dirty washing from around the house and put the washer on OR empty the washing machine and put it out to dry OR take in the washing, fold it up and put it away.

Find out who Charles Babbage and Ada Lovelace were. Create a presentation about them and teach your family about what you learned.

Create a new sport or game that you can play at home. Think about what the rules are and how it is won. Teach it to someone else and have a go together.

Take part in some quality time with your family. Watch a film together, do a quiz or play a board game.

Research your top-5 inventions through history. Create a presentation about why they are so important and the impact they have had.

Set a target and then challenge yourself to beat it: -Keep ups with a football -Rotations of a hula hoop -Press ups/Sit ups -Plank

Make a cup of tea, coffee or a cold drink for someone every day for a week (you must offer, they shouldn’t ask).

Write a list of the five questions that you would like your new form tutor to answer on your first day at Rawlins.

Can you tie a tie? If you’ve worn one for years this is an easy challenge. Learn to Tie your school tie. There are guides online or ask a family member to teach you.

Tidy a room in your house without being asked. If you really want to be kind, grab a duster and do that too!

Try and complete at least 10 of these challenges. Remember to show someone at home what you have achieved.
