RC Holy Spirit provides first aid kits to garbage collectors to safeguard th
health in case of accidents and help ensure uninterrupted community serv
On January 17, 2012, RCHS donated
eight (8) first-aid kits to the Barangay
Council of Holy Spirit for use of the crew
members of the Eco-Waste Department
in response to a request by the baran-
gay council.. The barangay owns andoperates eight (8) garbage collection
trucks with a total complement of 38
paleros (garbage collectors). Inspite of
preventive measures and care exercised
by the men, accidents do happen in the
course of their work. First-aid treatments
are always urgently needed to contain
the adverse effects of accidents like cuts
and bruises while they are out in the
field away from the health center.
The eight garbage collection teamsserve a very large urban community:
322 hectares with 158 streets
Population of about 150,000
30% Affluent
70% Urban Poor
Each first aid kit provided by RCHS c
tained a bottle Betadine antiseptic,
120 ml bottles Hydrogen Peroxide, o
bottle of 250 ml Ethyl Alcohol 70%,
capsules Amoxicillin, 20 tablets Bioge
(paracetamol), one pair of scissogauze bandage, first-aid paper tape,
ton balls.
The donation was received from RC
President Ped Condeno and Treasu
Marcia Salvador by Kagawad Lydia B
esteros, Chair of the barangay’s Hea
& Sanitation Committee, Kagawad B
nardito Sabalilag, and Mr Alarmo Ma
ano of the Eco-Waste Department.
At the turn-over President Ped wish that the garbage-truck teams will
need to use the first-aid kits from
Holy Spirit. He reminded them to be
tra careful in their work and wear prot
tive devices such as hand gloves.

from the barangay but also those coming
from as far as Payatas and Novaliches.
PP Dr Roger Belleza holds free medical
consultations at the parish clinic every

RC Holy Spirit led by SP Ped Condeno has decided to take steps
needed to complete and submit a matching-grant proposal for a
ervice project that would help resolve a pressing community con-
ern. Several potential projects have already been suggested, in-
luding the construction of an especially designed & equipped
chool room for SPED pupils, and the upgrading of a school’s toilet
ystem.
First step is to identify and agree on one project. According to RI
he most successful and sustainable Rotary service tends to fall
within one of the following six areas:
Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
Disease prevention and treatment
Water and sanitation
Maternal and child health
Basic education and literacy
Economic and community developmentRotary International and The Rotary Foundation recognize these
ix areas of focus as organizational priorities.
Then, we should identify a foreign Rotary club who would be inter-
ested to support the proposed project. In the case of RC Holy
Spirit, we could start the exploration with our sister-club RC Seoul
Baeksang D3650 in Korea, and with RC San Mateo Sunrise
D5150 in California USA whose AG Ms. Becky Nazareno visited us
ast May for the second time.
f necessary, we may also get in touch with Rotary clubs that we
would select in the districts with whom DG Jess Cifra signed sister-
district agreements at the Bali Rotary Institute last December.

and Brunei Zainie Abdul Aucasa

3300 Malaysia (Northern) Dr. S. Raavendra Kumar

n addition to providing a platform for strengthening ties of friend-
hip and the furtherance of world peace and understanding, each
agreement signed by Gov Jess is also intended to promote closer
cooperation with regards to project
undertakings and activities of mu-
tual interest between districts and
clubs in those districts. Interestingly,
this proviso directly reinforces the RI
theme for RY 2012-2013.

The Object of RotaryFirst formulated in 1910, the Object of Rotary is to encourage and
foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in par-
ticular, to encourage and foster:
FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for
service;
SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and
the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity
to serve society;
THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotar-
ian's personal, business, and community life;
FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding,
goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business
and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
5 Avenues of ServiceBased on the Object of Rotary, the Five Avenues of Service are Rotary’sphilosophical cornerstone and the foundation on which club activity isbased:
Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the
effective functioning of the club.
Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their
vocations and to practice high ethical standards.
Community Service covers the projects and activities the club under-
takes to improve life in its community.
International Service encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary’s
humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world under-
standing & peace.
New Generations Service recognizes the positive change imple-
mented by youth and young adults through leadership development
activities, service projects, and exchange programs.
The Four-Way TestOf the things we think, say or do
Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER
FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned
ROTARIAN’S PLEDGE
I am a Rotarian
I will always uphold the TRUTH.
I am a Rotarian
I will always strive to be FAIR

GOODWILL and UNDERSTANDING
in my community,
among my countrymen
and people of all nations.
I am a Rotarian

the greatest good
for the greatest number of people
in the spirit of ROTARY SERVICE.
I am a Rotarian

the Rotary International Motto,
SERVICE ABOVE SELF.
Principles that Guide Rotary
As a Rotarian, I will
1. Exemplify the core value of integrity in all behaviors and activities
2. Use my vocational experience and talents to serve in Rotary

improve the quality of life in my community

fellow Rotarians
