RI THEME: ROTARY MAKING A DIFFERENCE
JUNE IS ROTARY FELLOWSHIP MONTH
As the countdown to the end of the Rotary 2017-18 year
connues, we welcomed our last guest speaker for the
year namely Mr. Toney A. Olton, Principal Consultant of
the Po'er Centre. Mr. Olton gave a most thought pro-
voking and engaging lecture on Transformaonal Leader-
ship.
Mr. Olton's speech was really a challenge to each of us. A
challenge to
♦ think on “what it fully means to be a leader; the
difference between management and leadership”.
♦ find six words to accurately describe your team
♦ imagine your organisaon operang at its opmum
and then assess its current posion and vision.
♦ Give a score from 1-10 on the performance gap differ-
ence between reality and vision
He argued that once the above were answered honestly,
then that would give an understanding of the leadership
imperave which is the reason a leader funcons in the
space in which he operates and the way in which he
moves the team from the present score to the ideal 10.
Leadership is therefore a relaonship with the ability to
communicate worth and potenal of others so clearly
that they come to see it in themselves.
Leadership involves Emoonal Intelligence which by its
nature is simply the ability to operate from a high person-
al awareness where you are both self aware and mindful
of others.
Below Mr. Toney Olton as he addresses the Club:

Transforma(onal leadership con(nued:
Mr. Olton further advised that leadership involves Self
Management; Consequenal thinking; the ability to
recognise pa'erns; the ability to be both pragmac
and opmisc the ability to be empathec and to com-
municate so that others understand our goal. Leader-
ship requires goals including noble and inspiraonal
goals.
Transformave leadership is the ability to transfer
your knowledge and leadership abilies to others so
that they become the leaders of tomorrow.

Our President Paul has indicated that our global grant appli-

RC Barbados and RC Lexington and was approved. The

We thank the RC Lexington, Kentucky who had agreed to
lend assistance in developing the global grant proposal. The
Interna(onal Service Commi9ee selected our project for
funding in the 2017-18 Rotary fiscal year and worked with
us closely on the Global Grant applica(on.
Our project was one of nine projects under considera(on
and was eventually selected based on the informa(on for-
warded to them by Pres. Paul which included the photo-
graphs of the installa(on of the kitchen gardens and the
