Installation of NBT Evo GPS Receiver should be performed by an installer with appropriate knowledge

and experience. We strongly recommend using services of professional installers, experienced with

BMWs, for this installation.

Battery should be disconnected prior to the installation for safety reasons. Reconnection of the battery

should be done only after all electrical connections are in place.

This manual covers installation of the NBT Evo GPS Receiver of two types: PNP and non-PNP versions.

INSTALLATION OF NBT Evo GPS MODULE

STEP 1

Remove NBT Evo head unit (‘head unit’) from its position (but do not disconnect any of the wiring just

yet). This will require you to remove some plastic trim on your dashboard and unscrew appropriate

screws.

Depending on the model of your BMW, you may need to switch transmission to ‘Drive” position, before

removing the head unit (to give more space to maneuver).

We also recommend that you place some protective blanket on the center console trim, to avoid

possible scratches and dents.

PNP Harness version installation steps (for all BMW F series)

(skip to non-PNP harness version installation below if your version is non-PNP)

STEP 2

1. Locate the main quadlock harness at the back of the head unit, as shown on the picture.

Note that the colors of the wires connected to the harness may vary from one vehicle to

another. Headunit in picture is shown for reference only.

2. Disconnect the quad lock connector from head unit and take a quick look at it. You will need a

flat screwdriver in order to remove the MOST optical connector from the quadlock connector

harness and re-plug it into the quadlock connector of the GPS module PNP harness.

WARNING ! It is important to reconnect this MOST optical cable in order to

avoid loss of sound and other multimedia features.

3. Gently pull the plastic lock on the connector using a screwdriver and pull up the two optical

cables.

4. Now re-plug this optical connector into the same position of the GPS PNP quadlock harness.

5. Connect the Main quadlock connector harness into the opposite end of the GPS PNP quadlock

harness.

STEP 3

Connect 12pin connector from PNP wiring harness to the GPS Receiver module. Make sure that

connector plug is fully inserted in to the 12 pin connector at the GPS Receiver module.

Non-PNP Harness version installation steps (whenever PNP harness does not fit)

(skip this to STEP5 if your module is PNP)

Non-PNP wiring is used when there is no way to fit PNP harness due to other PNP harnesses already installed

between vehicle quadlock and headunit. For example in E series vehicles where PNP Plug version of eNBT

adapter is already installed.

STEP 4

Connect wires from non-PNP harness of GPS Receiver pin 1 to GND and pin2 to +12V supply.

Connect wires from non-PNP harness of GPS Receiver pin 3 to CAN Low and pin 4 to CAN High lines.

You may use wires at vehicle side quadlock connector: pin 12 for GND and pin 15 for +12V, pin 9 for CAN Low

and pin 11 for CAN High.

Make sure that wires are properly connected and isolated. It is recommended to secure wires to each other

with tie-ups.

Warning! GPS Receiver module may be configured for CAN 100kbit or CAN 500kbit

speeds. When connecting CAN lines from non-PNP harness make sure to connect to

appropriate CAN speed lines. For all E series BMWs when connecting to vehicle side quadlock

connector make sure that GPS Receiver configured for CAN bus 100kbit speed.

If connecting CAN lines to eNBT adapter CAN2 side (headunit side) make sure that GPS

Receiver configured for CAN bus 500kbit speed.

STEP 5

Secure GPS Receiver module behind the dash with use of tie-ups or other type of mounting.

Ensure that GPS Receiver module is secured and wiring attached to it is not blocking head unit path

in the dash board.

Normally at the back of the head unit tunnel in the dash board on the right or left side,

there will be some opening. You may use that opening to install the GPS Receiver. This

will let you install head unit properly to the end of the tunnel.

STEP 6

Connect OABR connector to NBT Evo OABR port.

STEP 7 (RE-INSTALLING THE HEAD UNIT)

Re-install your head unit inside the dash board. Follow the procedure which was used to remove

headunit initially from the dash board.

Warning! Avoid installing GPS Receiver module in direct contact with hot surfaces

(head unit, vehicle heater, etc) because excessive heat may damage GPS Receiver.

IS CODING REQUIRED IN YOUR CASE?

If your GPS Receiver module is purchased together with the NBT Evo kit, its functionality should

already be coded by BIMMER RETROFIT into the headunit. There is no need for additional coding,

unless otherwise is stated by seller.

In case if your GPS Receiver retrofit adapter is purchased separately, there might be some coding

required to have GPS feature working with NBT Evo. Please note that Evo headunit should be

coded to your vehicle options list for proper functionality.

The following two options must be coded in NBT Evo to switch it to external GPS mode:

TELEMATIC_ECU: atm SYSTEM_GPS_RECEIVER: nicht_aktiv

PNP Module Utility installation and use

1. PC utility and driver can be used with Windows7, Windows8 or Windows10.

2. Installation of .NET Framework 4.5 is required for proper operation of the utility.

3. Connect USB cable from GPS Receiver module to PC.

4. Install attached with the pack driver for the newly apeard USB device. For Windows 10

driver installation is not required as the driver will be installed automatically.

different from firmware.bin Usually firmware update file has a name which includes

firmware version, however the file extension should be .bin. There is no need to rename

new firmware update file back to firmware.bin

It is important not to interrupt process of file copying during the firmware update. Also it is

important to make sure that you copied the correct firmware update file, received from the

manufacturer to your GPS Receiver module. You should copy to GPS Receiver module only

firmware update file and not any other files.

MANUAL FIRMWARE UPDATE MODE FOR THE GPS RECEIVER MODULE If for any reason your firmware update is not successful using the method above and your module can

no longer enter the firmware update mode, you can use the Manual firmware update method described

below.

For the firmware update of the GPS Receiver Module you will need to have the following:

1. Micro USB to USB adapter cable
