PRESCHOOL NEWSWhats been happening at the Preschool? This term has been very busy for the preschool. Our theme for the term has been onHealthy Lifestyles and we have been talking about all kinds of healthy and unhealthy foodas well as what we can do to keep t. We have been sending out families to go on walks athome and then they bring back footprints with where they went, and what they saw writtenon them. We hope all the families have been enjoying being active at home and hopefullythey will all continue to go on family walks.

As part of the Healthy Lifestyles theme we had a Wheels Week, where all the children couldbring in anything with wheels. The children loved having the opportunity to ride their bikesand scooters at Kindy. We also used this time to discuss how to be safe on our wheels andwhat safety equipment we should always wear when we are on them.

On Friday 1st of March we had our Pizza, Pj and Picture Night at the Preschool where all thechildren came back to the preschool in their PJs and we watched Toy Story and ate pizzaand popcorn. The children always enjoy these nights and they are already asking when wewill be having our next one!

On the last day of term (Thursday 11th April) the preschool will be going on an excursionto the Adelaide Aquatic Centre. The children are very excited about having some fun in thepool and a picnic outside on the lawn. We will also make sure that we have some time toplay on the big playground outside the swimming centre!

It has been a fun lled term at the preschool and we are all very excited about moving intoour Brand New Building! It has been great being right next to the new building so we couldwatch all the construction. The children (and sta ) cannot wait to start having our sessions

in there, hopefully very soon!We wish all the families a fun and safe holiday and are looking forward to another excitingterm!

Melissa Hill, Sharon Doughty and all the Kindy Team

    SafetyCornerstones toLearner driving

Parents often ask advice on the proper approach to take when teaching a person todrive. Proper instruction is important and if you are going to teach your child to driveensure that you are up to date with current road rules. The RAA have an online test topractise the road rules and there is a simple online test on the DPTI internet page aswell. The SAPOL Road Safety Section has a session entitled Cars have changedsohave the Road Rules which speci cally covers supervising learner drivers which can bebooked by your school. Here are some ideas to consider when discussing this topicwith your daughter or son.

    1. Only apply for a Learners Permit when ready. There is no need to encourageearly licensing as your child will need to feel comfortable about taking this step withall the responsibility that this decision brings with it. Learning to drive should notbe seen as something that should automatically occur as soon as they attain thecorrect age.

    2. Use a licensed driving Instructor. This does not have to be for the whole of therequired 75 hours driving experience but having an instructor involved for somesessions is important to ensure that the learner has this experience. The keys2driveprogram is available to give a free driving lesson with a licensed instructor to assisthere. This session can be organised through the internet. A professional instructorwill judge the areas for improvement in their driving and suggest ways to correctthem.

    3. Ensure your learner completes at least 75 hours driving practice as per theirlog book . Dont take short cuts here as your learner needs this practice as once theyhave their licence, their chances of being involved in a crash increase dramatically.

CANTEEN NEWSIt is a hive of activity here in the Canteen and we are always on thelookout for new Volunteers. If you can spare a couple of hours aweek, especially on a Tuesday, we would love to hear from you. It is afun environment to work in and a great way to be in the loop of thegoings on at the school. There is some work involved of course buttea, co ee and conversation a-plenty!

Just a friendly reminder that we would prefer that parents not staple studentslunch bags closed as this is a food hazard. Money should be wrapped in foilor similar to prevent it escaping from lunch bags during transit. Also, sincethe units have now been re-named and are no longer going by colour, pleasemake sure your childs Teachers name is clearly marked on the bag and not just the new unit name. There are 6 classes whom come under the Hewlettbanner so you can imagine the trawling through class lists we have to do tofnd where lunches belong! We appreciate your help in these matters.

A survey was conducted early in the term of Secondary students. The studentsare to be commended for how mature and nutrition conscious they were in theirresponses .We have started doing Cheese & Bacon Pizza singles which have theHeart Foundation tick of approval. A new mini Garden Salad with a dressing sachethas also been added to the menu for only $2.50. Ham Cheese & Tomato toastedsandwiches are also on o er for $3.50. Fruit salad and wraps will be on o er for theremainder of this Term and then we will be into our winter menu which will include

homemade soups and other winter warmers. Please contact me if you are able tovolunteer on 83817991.
