Chess Program Fall 2016-Saturdays @ SMS

Sessions: 12 Days: Saturdays Time: See class schedule below. (1 hr sessions) Location: South Middle School-RM # 406 Fee: $180.00 Grade: See class, grade requirement below.

9 AM. Beginner Class: K-3rd grade. For students who don’t know how to move chess pieces or know basic game rules.

10 AM. Intermediate Class: K-3rd grade. Students must know how to move chess pieces, check and checkmate.

11 AM. Advanced Class: No grade requirement. Students must know all basic rules and ready to compete in scholastic chess tournaments. Students who were in pervious intermediate classes need instructor recommendation to advanced class or have a USCF rating between 300 - 800.

12 PM. Intermediate Class: 2nd grade and up. Students must know how to move chess pieces, check and checkmate

Description: During each one-hour session children will learn about chess, play chess, and have some fun along the way! Beginners will learn game fundamentals and experienced players will learn strategies and tactics necessary for successful game play. Each session will be divided between instruction and supervised game play. Instructor: International Master & FIDE trainer Milos Scekic. www.lichesskids.com

American Red Cross Learn-to Swim Program: Fall 2016-Saturdays @ South Middle School-Pool

Sessions: 10 Days: Saturdays Time: See Schedule: Choose Level/Time (10:00am-12:15pm) Location: SMS-Pool Fee: $150.00 Grade: K-12

Description: The American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program is an instructional program to help students gain confidence in the water and learn proper swimming techniques. Staff includes certified Water Safety Instructors, Lifeguard instructors and Swim instructor assistants. The five-level program is designed to progress students through the levels at their own pace, mastering the skills in one level before advancing to the next.

*Each swim session is thirty five minutes long.*Pool Temp. Usually set between 80-82%.

Equipment and Clothing Required: Bathing Suit, Towel, Swim Goggles.

Level 1: 10:00am, 1215pm Level 4: 10:45am, 11:30am, 12:15pm

Level 2: 10:00am, 10:45am, 11:30am Level 5: 12:15pm

Description: This Self-Defense-MMA program is a fun and challenging mixed martial arts program for boys & girls. The program is designed to incorporate a variety of martial arts allowing students to learn technique while teaching them how to avoid and/or defend themselves in potentially dangerous situations. In addition to the physical benefits of training, our program offers a friendly, safe and fun environment designed to instill confidence, discipline and character. Students have an opportunity to grow in degree of self-defense & MMA and earn certificates/belt colors. Each 45-minute class is tailored to address the specific fitness level of each student. Description: Kids are introduced to tennis in a comfortable setting where the emphasis is on fun. With kids-sized equipment, adapted courts, and slower-moving & lower-bouncing tennis balls, the youth tennis format allows kids to rally and play easier right from the start. This helps to develop confidence since kids can rally successfully with appropriate swing patters, grips and better racquet control. The modified courts can help develop tactical and technical skills better and sooner. In addition, tennis becomes more enjoyable for the kids! Special Needs Recreation Program: The Special Needs Recreation Program is for children with documented and receiving Special Ed. Services.

Dates: Oct. 20, 27 Nov. 3, 10, 17 Dec. 1, 8, 15, 22 Jan. 5, 12, 19, 26 Feb. 2, 9, 16 March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 . April 6

Sessions: 22 Days: Thursday Grade: K – 2 Time: 3:30pm – 5:15pm Location: Parkville School Fee: $75.00

This recreation Program allows children to interact with one another while enjoying themselves in a supervised and structured setting. Children will have an opportunity to be engaged in various gymnasium and playground (weather permitted) activities. Other group activities include creative and cooperative play with a variety of table games and toys. Snack time is provided during the program. Please pack a light snack and/or drink for your child.

Child must be registered with the Great Neck Public School District, in grades K-2. Program location is at Parkville School. Transportation can be provided with parent’s written consent (see transportation consent below).

Location Choice: EMB School or Lakeville School Description: A fun-filled program where children can participate in various activities within a supervised setting. This program includes physical activity in the gym and interactive table games in the cafeteria. (Juice and snacks will be available for purchase.)

Please do not drop off before 7:30pm, and pick up by 9:15 pm. There is no supervision prior to or after the program. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from the program.

Location: EM Baker School OR Parkville School (Choose One) Description: A fun-filled program that includes physical activities, arts and crafts and music. Children will take home self-created art/craft projects, learn a fun variety of toe-tapping songs and be involved with various gym games. Sneakers are required for all gym activities.

deducted from refund. 4. In the event of program cancelation due to low enrollment a full refund will be issued. 5. If the district closes operations due to inclement weather or any other reason, all

Recreation programs will be cancelled for that day. All reasonable efforts will be made to reschedule cancelled programs.

6. Registration priority is given to district residents. 7. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from the recreation programs unless
