Happy Fall from the Red Rock PTO!

The Fall Festival /Trunk or Treat has come and gone. It was a huge success and we really appreciate everyone who helped bring this fun family night to our community. Our teachers, staff, AVFD, parent volunteers and even students had a hand in this event; we want to thank each and every one! We couldn’t have done it without YOU!

The next thing on the calendar for our PTO is the Holiday Gift Shoppe. This is something the kids love every year, and we enjoy helping them pick out that special gift for friends and family. This event will run from December 8th through December 12th; information will be sent home soon. We are also working on bringing a “Special Guest”

from the North Pole to our school during the Winter Holiday Program on December 10th. The plan is to have him arrive on the fire truck and visit with the children

throughout the program that evening.

This year, PTO has committed to helping the school purchase and additional shade structure and upgrades to our baseball field with dugouts for the expanding sports program. With the success of our Fall Festival and other fundraisers, we are confident that we will reach our goal in the near future. We thank you ALL for your support.

Coming Soon – Red Rock PTO “Box Tops Store” – Beginning in January , we will have a Box Top store where students can redeem their box tops for special small prizes. So, start collecting and saving those Box Tops! We will send home information about the store in December. Happy Collecting!!!!

Please visit the school’s website under the PTO tab to review our calendar of events, and join our Facebook group at “Red Rock PTO” for announcements and news. Thank you and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

RED ROCK NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2014

Fourth Grade Science Fair Fourth grade started second quarter off with an amazing demonstration of the scientific method. Students have gone in depth

investigating the steps to use when conducting a science experiment, and now each student has conducted his/her own experiment

using the following steps: Observation, Question, Hypothesis, Research, Experiment, Materials, Procedure, Changing variable,

Controlled variables, Data collection, Analyzing data, Conclusion, and Publishing results. These wonderful displays can be seen

throughout the 400 hallway.

Pinal County Anti-Drug Poster Contest The sixth grade students participated in the annual Pinal County Attorney Anti-Drug Poster Contest. Over 900 students from across the country submitted posters, and 7 of our students placed in the top 50! Madison Notman, Kayla Charles, Brooklyn Nokes and Zoye Mell each received an honorable mention. Dylan Carothers, Quentin Apolinar and Jesus Santiago were selected in the top 9 and will soon find out if they are one of the three winners!

Using our Whole Brains! – 3rd Grade News In room 403 we have been working hard to engage every part of our brain while

learning. We spend a great deal of time moving, conversing, and using bodily

gestures to express our thoughts and grasp new concepts. Students engage each other

in academic conversation. We daily have a morning meeting, to discuss our

educational goals for the day as well as to welcome each other to our learning

community. At our morning meeting we improve upon our speaking and listening

skills by engaging in a daily questions as well as sharing good news/bad news from

our lives. In room 403 the focus is that we will be whole brain learning every minute

that we are in our classroom; that we will be able to share our thoughts, express our

academic goals, and partake in academically based conversations.

During the month of November, 3rd graders will study division while continuing to

master their multiplication facts. Towards the end of the month we will participate in

lessons on Patterns. Our science lessons will introduce Heat, Light, Color, and

Sound. In addition, we will learn how to write a persuasive paragraph while

remembering to add details and proper punctuation. 3rd graders love to learn!

Red Rock Gifted – Ms. Martinez I am very excited to be facilitating the Gifted Program this year at Red Rock Elementary School. The past few weeks have been

spent assessing and identifying those students who were recommended to the program. Letters and results will be sent home to the

parents of each child was tested.

Students must pass with a 97% in order to qualify to become part of the gifted program. Students in grades K-3 will be identified

and homeroom teachers will be supported with resources, ideas, and training to challenge these students. Students in grades 4-8

who qualify will be part of a pull out program. This program will run once a month on a Friday (exact days to be determined in the

future). Some of the activities could include, but not be limited to: inquiry based projects, service projects, technology activities,

field trips and others as the year progresses.

Parent assistance is always welcomed and encouraged. If you have any further questions or comments please call or email me.
