Celebrating the Month of April Red Willow Celebrated Autism Awareness during the month of April. We celebrated
this day on April 2nd by wearing blue t-shirts that students designed as part of an art
lesson. Many students performed at our Talent show to celebrate diversity. The
school participated in many events and we were able to raise over $2,800 for this
great cause. Thank you to the Red Willow community for supporting April as Autism
Awareness Month.
Education Week was an amazing and fun time for all students and families. It was a
jam packed month of fun with our school’s book fair and evening Junior Concert. We
had over 250 parents attend our Open House. Thanks to our community for support-
ing our Social Justice grade level projects!

Important Information from your PE Department:
All students in Grades 4 and 5 are now required to change in to PE clothes. PE clothes can be ANY change of clothes, they do NOT have to be the Red Willow PE Uniforms. Students that do not bring PE clothes to school will be given in a note in their agenda which needs to be signed by a parent or guardian.
Some examples of appropriate PE clothes are:
T-shirts, long sleeve shirts, shorts, jogging pants, track pants and yoga pants. It is mandatory that all students dress appropriately for every physical education class. Students are encouraged not to wear dresses, scarves, jeans, sweaters on the days they have Phys Ed and wear indoor (non-marking) running shoes. Students are asked to remove all jewellery for their own safety and that of their peers. If your child wears a religious bracelet, they are kindly requested to cover it during PE class using a wristband to prevent any injuries. The Red Willow PE department will provide wrist bands for any student that requires one. If your child has asthma or an allergy we ask that they always carry their puffer/inhaler or EPI Pen with them at all times. *Students fasting during the month of Ramadan have the option to be exempt or partially exempt from physical activities, however this decision must be made between the student and his/her parents. Please bring a signed note in your agenda if you wish to be exempt from physical education activities. If you or your son/daughter have any ques-tions or concerns please speak to the PE department about any specific accommodations to our physical education program.

Keeping Children Safe Around Storm Sewers and Waterways Rising water levels and fast moving water in lakes, ponds and creeks is likely during spring. Children playing in and around storm sewers and watercourses, entering storm sewers through the outfalls, and entering storm sewers through access covers is dangerous.
The following information will help keep children safe:
water flows in storm sewers and watercourses are unpredictable and may change quickly
toxic gases may be present in and around storm sewers and water-courses
access is restricted, making rescue attempts are difficult
tragic falls could take place
Please review this information with your children and let them know how dan-gerous storm sewers and waterways are.
Peel Schools Honour Police Officers During Police Appreciation Week
The Peel District School Board will pay tribute to police officers by holding Police Appreciation Week from May 13 to 17, 2019. Peel students and staff will show their appreciation for the tremendous job being done by police to protect schools, homes and communities. Police Appreciation Week coincides with National Po-lice Week. National Police Week pays tribute to the work of police officers across Canada.
During this week, students, staff and parents in schools throughout Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga will honour the work of police officers and thank them for enhancing public safety and security.
What is an IEP?
Education is full of acronyms and IEP is one of many that a parent/guardian of a child receiving special ed-ucation support will encounter. An IEP is an Individual Education Plan. Developed at the beginning of the school year, it lays out the accommodations and modifications to the regular curriculum that help your child learn and be successful.
No formal identification is needed but you (parent/guardian) should be involved in the development as you provide valuable input. It can be overwhelming so there are pamphlets, webpages, and Special Edu-cation Advisory Committee (SEAC) representatives who can help you understand and make informed con-tributions.
May is Better Speech and Hearing Month. Let's thank the professionals who help our children with their speech and language challenges.
Register today for Adult ESL or LINC classes
Do you know an adult who is interested in improving their English language skills for work, study or daily life?
Through the Continuing & Adult Education department, the Peel District School Board offers a wide variety of English language classes that help adult learners experience success in Ca-nadian English in both listening/speaking and reading/writing. All learners who complete a session will earn a certificate of learning from the Peel District School Board. Certificates of completion at Canadian Language Benchmark level 4 and greater can be submitted as proof of language proficiency for Canadian Citizenship applica-tions.
Classes operate from six locations in Brampton and Mississauga with three specially de-signed adult centres at:
Bramalea - Adult Education Centre – Bramalea Secondary School, 510 Balmoral Dr,

May 15 – Celebrate Peel IT Support Staff and Media Support Services Appreciation Day
This year, the Peel District School Board will recognize the contributions of its IT support staff and me-dia support services on May 15, 2019. The Peel board appreciates the important work of these individ-uals to ensure that innovative, reliable and adaptable solutions are available to support student suc-cess through equitable access to technology. We thank them for providing quality service and for sup-porting students and staff every day.
We Welcome the World Centres

The centres are open all year—including the summer months— from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In addition to providing literacy and numeracy assessments, the We Welcome the World Centres pro-vide newcomers with a host of services including: reception, orientation, interpretation and referrals.
At each centre, parents/guardians and students will discover:
settlement service information
age and grade appropriate educational and related program resources
information about various community supports
translation of materials to support the reception and assessment process
computer portals— providing information on Peel resources
For more information about the We Welcome the World Centre and the services they provide, call 905-366-8791.
