Here we go again another year is accelerating by. Our Christmas in July was a fantastic night with all those attending having a great time.
Lyn, Mick & Keren put in a huge effort once again organising our Einbunpin Festival. We had a small atten-dance from our branch members, all of whom had a great day.
The Memorial Day planning is in place with Ray, Keren and Foggy (Lockyer) putting in a lot of hours to have the event ready.
Don’t forget about our Odyssey we will be needing donations for our U-bay and Raffle, please see Herb & Ray if you can assist.
So wherever you may be, safe riding.
Cheers,
Russell

Our self organized trip finally got under way when we fronted up at the International Airport on Tues-day morning, May 14
th. The first leg of the journey
was to Guangzhou, South China where we should have had a 7.5 hour stop-over.
The flight to Paris was running late and the clock had already ticked over to the 15
th of May before we
boarded it. This was the start of Lyn's Birthday, which would last for 31 hours starting in China and crossing Kazakstan, Russia, Finland, Germany and finally into France.
On Sunday morning we were up early headed into the city and caught the high speed train to Le Mans for the Moto Gp. It took just under an hour to com-plete the 200 odd k's.
While waiting for the tram to the track we came across people from dozens of nationalities including Aussies, and lucky for us one Victorian couple had done the trip the day before and were able to show us the short cuts to the entrances. We had a good day at the races and managed to escape any really wet weather.
Entry into Paris was pretty low key and apart from queuing to have our passports stamped we breezed through and were soon on the train heading for our Hotel.
We spent the next few days notching up the K's on the metro, trams, boats and buses doing all the sight-seeing. It's a very bustling City.
Global Travellers
Part 1
Page 13 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter August 2013
On Monday morning we were again up early and this time headed into the city's International Station and onto the Euro-Star train to London. In London we picked up a hire car and proceeded on our tour of Britain and Ireland.
We had decided to go the Bed & Breakfast route and this worked out well.
Our first stay was a working farm in the West Coun-try and although it was initially hard to find turned out to be very comfortable. Our host here supplied us with a Farm Stay directory which served us well for the stays in the UK.
Ross, Lynette and Lyn are standing on the Clapper Bridge, Dartmoor.
This bridge dates from the 13th century
We spent a couple of days in South Wales before moving by ferry to Ireland. Unfortunately we had picked a very windy day for this crossing so the trip was pretty rough.
Ireland is very picturesque with a very good network of major roads, although these highways are wide with good surfaces and a speed limit of 120 kmh, they are open to all comers, imagine the fright you receive when travelling at 120 ks and coming across a huge tractor ambling along at about 40 ks!!. It was enough to give us Grey hair!.
While roaming around Cork we came across the usual indigenous person entertaining the public with his Didgery Doo, albeit a modern version of the Aus-tralian model.
We visited all the well known places, Tipperary, Wa-terford, Dublin before moving on to Northern Ireland. We were a bit surprised at the lack of pubs on the outskirts of Belfast. After a short stay in the outskirts of Belfast it was back on a ferry to Scotland and Ed-inburgh.
Page 14 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter August 2013
Edinburgh, as with most European cities, is steeped in history a lot of which we were able to see by us-ing the "Hop On Hop Off" open top buses. These buses do circuits of the Cities, have audio commen-tary and allow you to get on and off as many times as you wish in a 24 hour period, it is a excellent way to get your bearings in an unknown place. As with most places we've been to, it would have been great to have stayed longer but time waits for no man so after two nights we headed south to the Lake Dis-trict.
Another Farm Stay in Cumbria allowed us to explore the scenic area's of the Lake District in the North West of England. We had a trip on Coniston Waters, the lake where Donald Campbell broke the Water Speed Record, and lost his life in January 1967.
We saw a bunch of real people out for a ride, includ-ing a Trike. We also saw loads of Gypsies that were congregating in the area we were staying. They had travelled great distances as there was a horse sale on the following weekend. They are not much liked as they set up camps where-ever they can, at the side of the road, in Pub car parks etc.
From here we travelled south to our final Farm Stay north of London in Bedfordshire.
Page 15 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter August 2013
This stay enabled us to visit Cambridge, Norwich and Ipswich (as below) although there was some question as to whether Lynette new where we were?.
Our final few days were spent in London and once again we made full use of the trains, tubes, buses and river ferries to see as much as we could cram in. We had picked a very central area near St Pancras Sta-tion for our last stay and this allowed us to walk to a lot of places. Our last meal was at the local about 200 mts down the road.
Early Wednesday morning (June 5th) we walked the 150 mts to St Pancras station and prepared for the trip
back to Paris. While in Britain we had driven some 2500 miles (4025 Kms)
Stay tuned for part 2 next month.
