HelloAll,Well,3monthshascomeandgone.JudyandItouredtoDarwin,thendownthewestcoastof
WAtotheMargaretRiverregion.Finally,acrosstheNullabor,tohome,15,340Kmsintotal.Whilewewereaway,fellowcommitteemembersablylookedafterourpositions.Ahugethankstoallforajobwelldone. Sadly,again,Iannouncethepassingofanotheroneofourmembers,DaveBell.ThefuneralwasheldonFridaythe27thofOctoberwithaverygoodturnoutofbikes.Thankstoallthatattended.Onyourbehalf,asympathycardwassenttoClaire. Theissueofmembershipfinancialstatushascomeupagain,pleasefolks,gototheUlysseswebpage,logon,andcheckwhetheryouarefinancial. TheWarrenJamiesonAwardforthememberwho’scontributiontothebranchhasbeenoutstandingwillbepresentedattheChristmasshowonthe2ndofDecember.Wehadtwoequallydeservingcandidates.However,becauseofNatComrulings,onewasnoteligible.(nospoilers). Ok,that’senoughfromme,otherthan,therehasbeenanincreaseinmotorcyclerelatedinjuriesanddeaths,particularlyamongtheoldergroupthisyear.Thecauseisirrelevant;itisusthatgethurt.So,pleasepeople,bevisible,beobservant,andmostofall,ridesafe.Cheers,Brett.

Ifthereis,likethesongsaysastairwaytoheaven,thenIreckonourmemberswereacoupleo’rungsuptoday.Toseeallyoufolkwithburgersinhand,gluedtothebigscreenwatchingMotoGP,ecstasyonyourfaces,paintsapictureofnearheaven.Barbiesaid“we’reblessedatUlysses”AndIreckonshe’sright.Youguysarethebest,theverybest.Anothergreatridetoday,showcasingeverythingthatisFleurieuBranch.Greenrollinghills,breathtakingviews,lotsofcurves,somegentlesomesevere.WithlotsofnewfacestoaddtoourRoguesGallery.Barrareckonsitwasmostlymainroads,butIdon’tknow.Ineverknowwherethehellweare,soitworksforme.BravoanywayAlan,youledwellandtheCFSeffortwasoutstanding.Pleaselet’sdoiteveryyear.Staysafefolks.GPS

Thewindistuggingathismo',asightyoushouldaseenHisfistaroundthethrottletight,as‘roundthecurvehesweptIsthisthelast,beforethestraight?IguessitcouldabeenButno!anotherbendinsight,he’slostit,Jesuswept!Falsealarm,hehascontrol,he’sgood,hewentintoaleanAturningloomsupahead,he’ssearchingforsomedepthToplacethemarshalontheleft,tosignalthestalwartteamRoadsignsareflashingbyrightnow,forheismakingtracksWhitelinestretchesbeforehimnow,moreroadthanyou’d‘adreamAchancetoblowthecobwebsoff,andclearawaytheearwaxHeleadsushomeallsafeandsoundwitheyesthatkindagleamI’mgladwehadaridetoday,alongwiththemightyMax!
TodaywasthedayIshouldahadmyhandlebarcameraon.Wouldamadeagreatmovie,ridingneartherearwithtwentyoddbikesinfront,soimpressive.Thishastobejustaboutthebesttimeoftheyeartoride.It’sstillreallyspring,withallthecoloursandfragrancesofspringbutwithwarmweather.Anddidn’tweseesomecountryside?McLarenVale,Kangarilla,Meadows,Hahndorf,Monarto,Callington,MurrayBridge,Wellington,andallthehamletsinbetween.LunchattheWellingtonpub(beautifulspot)wherethefoodwasexceptional,aswasthecompany.Lovelytowelcomesomemorenewfaces,hopeyouenjoyedthedayandhopetoseeyouonmorerides.ThanksforthegreatrideMax,itwasfaultless.Plentyofmugshotsandmoreifyougotothesite’salbum.Alsoplentyofbikepiccies.Havaagoodweekpeoples,seeyouforthefivecaptainsridethiscomingSunday.

2017CityofOnkaparingaChristmasPageantSunday26NovemberOurbranchisonceagainparticipatinginthePageant!LastyearitwasalotoffunsowewelcomeeveryonetocomealongandjoininwiththeChristmasspirit.Allyouneedtodoisdecorateyourselfandyourbikeandmeetat9amattheHarveyNorman/SpotlightcarparkonseamanroadNoarlungaDowns.

IwokeupearlyFriday27-Oct,overthelastfewdaysIhadpackedmypanniers.NowtoloadthebikeupandheadtoKrispyKremeatBolivartomeetupwiththeotherpeopleheadingtoCoffinBayforthe4dayrideorganizedbytheAdelaideBranch.AsalwaysanyUlyssesmemberfromanybranchiswelcome.ItiscommontogetpeoplefromTorrensValley,Fleurieubranchesandothers. AsIwassippingonacoffeeandeatingadonutothermembersstartedtoarrive.Leavingat8:30wehad4bikesandacar.Aswearegettingoldermorepeoplearestartingtousecarsfortheseevents,whichisgreatthattheycanstillcome.WeheadedtoPortWakefieldforacoffeeandpickupanotherriderthatwasrunninglate,leavingforPortAugustaforlunchabout10am. Itwasnowgettingquitehotandverywindy,wealsohadabitofrainmakingridingalittleuncomfortable.AtPortAugustawestoppedatthenewOTRforfuelandlunch,hereweweremetupwithJamesandHeatherBart.LeavingIthinkwenowhad2carsand7ormaybe8bikes. Tempstillrisingsomewherebetween38⁰to40⁰Candstillverystrongwinds,fueleconomyduetotheheadwindwaswelldown.A30minfuelandreststopatCowellwaswelcomedbyall. Wearrivedatthecaravanparkabout5pmandcheckedintoourcabins.Otherpeoplehadarrivedearlierinthedayandsomeeventhedaybefore,someintentsandcampertrailers,MikeGreenandCarolynwheretellingushowharditwastoerecttheirtentinthestrongwind.Wehadatotalof18peoplefortheBBQteainthecampkitchen/Gazeboareathatnight.

AfterafabulousbreakfastSaturdaymorninginthecampkitchenwehadafreemorningsoIwentforaspintoPortLincoln(45Km’saway),IhadalookaroundthetownandvisitedacoupleofOPshopsbutnotfindinganythingofinteresttobuy.OnmyreturnIhadheavyshowerstocontendwithbuttheydidn’tlastlong.Igotbackintimetodoanoystertourforabout1hr.Wegottosample5freshoysterswhilelisteningtoacommentaryabouttheirhistoryinthebay.ThatafternoonafewofusagainbravedtheweatherandwenttoPortLincolntotheAxelStenrossMaritimeMuseum,themuseumhasbeencollectingstuffforaverylongtime.ThateveningteawasheldattheCoffinBayHotel,wewerepickedupbytheircourtesybus.Thatwasanicemealsharedwithgreatcompany. Sundayagainafterbreakfastincoolandwetweatherallthebikesand2carsdidagreatridearoundthepeninsulafromCoffinBaytoEllistonviaMountHopeandSheringawherewestoppedforfuelandcoffee(140Km’s).WeleftforastopatLock(92Km’s)tofindliterallyeverythinginthetowntobeclosed.MovingonwestoppedatCummins(82Km’s)about2PMandhadlunchatthehotel.Thestaffwereamusedwhenwerearrangedthediningroomtoaccommodateourlargenumbers,andpleasedwhenweputitbackthewaywefounditwhenweleft.Mostoftheridehomewasinverywet,windyweatheradistanceof55Km’s.ThateveningsomeventuredoutintheraintogototheCoffinBayYachtClubjustover½Kmaway.Me,Istayeddryinmycabin….:).TheeveningendedwithdrinksinKenandMichelle’scabin,westayedtillabout11pmbeforeheadingtobed.Ihaddonemostofmypacking,justafewminutesinthemorningandtoloadupthebike.Iwasplanningonleavingabout8:30afterbreakfast.Iwasduehomeabout4:30. AfterbreakfastMondaymorningandsayinggoodbyetoeveryoneIheadedtoKimbaatabout8:30.ItwasstillverywindyandIhadacoupleofclearingshowers.AtKimbaIfuelledthebikeandwenttoseethenewpaintedsilothere,whatabeauty,itiswellworthavisit.Therestoftheridehomewasuneventfularrivingabout5pmjustintimeforourweeklyfamilyteaatmydaughterJacqualine’shome.Thishasbeenanothergreatweekendaway,IlovetheseandI’mlookingforwardtomoreasI’msureeveryoneelseis,wehavealotofgreatpeoplefromallthebranchesthatenjoythesegetaways.AttheendofNov,Quornherewecome,another4dayer…J
