Winter Ski & Board 2015INTRODUCTION

Fügen and the Ziller Valley

The charming village of Fügen gives access to the extensive ski area of

the Ziller Valley. With over 489km of pistes ranging from 630m, up to

3250m, the Ziller Valley is one of Austria’s largest ski areas, offering

fantastic skiing for all levels.

The area has 174modern high capacity lifts and cable cars and the main ski areas, including Hochfügen (pictured), Spieljoch, the Zillertal Arena, Hochzillertal, Mayrhofen and the Hintertux Glacier, can all be ac-cessed on just one lift pass. Exploring the Ziller Valley couldn’t be easier, with areas such as Zell and Hinterux linked by a network of ski buses and a narrow gauge railway, which are also included in the lift pass. Additionally Redpoint run guided days out to different resorts by minibus. With a snow-sure season running from the beginning of December to mid April every year, you can be confident that you will have a great snow sports holiday.

The Ziller Valley has so much to offer everyone, whether it be a gentle progression of slopes for beginners, or challenging and diverse runs for the more intermediate and expert skier. Don’t fancy skiing or boarding? Enjoy the stylish spa centre with indoor and outdoor heated pools in Fügen, explore the various winter walking paths, or go up the gondola ski lift and enjoy the awe inspiring views - you’ll find that one trip won’t be enough!

Within easy reach of the Spieljoch, Hochfügen and Hochzillertal ski areas, the picturesque village of Fügen it-self is one of the Skier’s best-kept secrets. The local ski areas are not only well maintained and groomed, but are also less crowded than the better known resorts, giving you a greater sense of freedom. With a traditional relaxed Austrian atmosphere and friendly locals, you’ll fall in love with Fügen’s charm: where people greet you in the street and remember you if you visit the same place twice. You can stop by a bar and enjoy the lively Apres Ski that Fügen has to offer. You’ll be amazed at the way people drink, dance and party, still dressed in their ski gear!

SaturdayArrived in resort at lunchtime. Greg had my lift pass ready

and took me straight to the ski hire shop to get my skis. After

a quick check-in and change at the hotel, I took the gondola

up to Spieljoch for a wonderful afternoon of skiing and a

relaxed lunch in a mountain hut before skiing back down to the

valley at the end of the day.

SundayTook the ski bus to Hochfugen. Had a great day skiing.

MondayWent up to Hochfugen and skied took the connection over to the

Hochzillertal ski area. Stopped for lunch at the spectacular

Kristall Hut, sat in a deck chair looking at the amazing

views! Skied straight into the Apres Ski bar from the ski run to

the valley and had a few drinks before the Redpoint minibus

arrived to take us back to the hotel.

TuesdayTook a Day Out to Zell am Ziller.

Met some nice people in the minibus and skied together all day.

It was nice to be shown around.

WednesdayJoined the same people on the Day Out to Mayrhofen.

Even went down the Harikiri (steepest black run in Austria!)

ThursdayTook the Day Out to the Hintertux Glacier...

The views were amazing.

FridayHad a great day skiing in Hochfugen, met the crowd I skied

with on the Days Out and stopped at the Apres Ski bar.

SaturdayManaged to get up to Spieljoch early and fit in a good half

day s skiing before my transfer home.

Ski Guiding & Days OutWith over 600km of skiing included on the Super Zillertal lift pass, red run skiers and above often enjoy exploring several of the ski areas dur-ing their holiday. It is possible to use the interconnecting network of ski buses and train to visit the different areas in the valley on your own, but the easiest and most convenient way is to book a Redpoint Day Out before you go. Not only do you have the convenience of traveling in the Redpoint minibus, but you also get skiing company for the day, if you choose to ski with the group.

On Monday evenings, Redpoint run a free minibus pick-up from the Aprés Ski bar in Kaltenbach, so you can ski over on the connection to the Hochz-illertal ski area and get a ride home in the Redpoint minibus. (By pre-arrangement with the team in resort).

Days Out are usually on Tuesdays (to Zell - 15 minutes by minibus), Wed-nesdays (to Mayrhofen - 20 minutes by minibus ) and Thursdays (to the Hintertux Glacier - 40 minutes by minibus), although we sometimes do vary the days depending on the weather conditions and other resort logistics, so please double-check with the team once in resort.

Other holidays that include ski guiding are Ski Challenge Week - p.26 Solo Weeks - p.24 Women’s Weeks - p.25

Groups - Pre-order Days Out for your group when making your group reservation.

InstructionSki Instruction is exclusively for Redpoint guests with English-speaking instructors. By booking instructors to work exclusively for Redpoint guests and keeping groups small and personal, we can tailor the lessons better to your needs and ability.

You also get the additional benefit of socialising with other English-speaking Redpoint guests during the lessons. This can be great if the friends you came on holiday with do not ski at the same pace as you do you can often find a new skiing partner within your ski group.

Ski lessons offered are in small groups of up to 8 people per instructor. For more advanced skiers we recommend private instruction for up to 2 people together to ensure that you progress effectively at your level. Because the lessons are exclusive, this means that places are limited, so it is advisable to pre-book your instruction at the time of booking your holiday, particularly if you are still learning and can’t ski on your own if no instruction is available in resort.

Group Ski Lesson Types:Beginner Group Lessons 1½ hour am and 1½ hour pm - 5 days. In a small group of up to 8 people, your English-speaking instructor will take you from the very basics up to skiing the easy “blue” runs on the mountain.

Intermediate Group Lessons 1½ hours am or pm - 5 days.As you can already ski the easy runs and practice on your own, this gives you time with the instructor to improve your skiing and the rest of the day to practice what you’ve learnt. Intermediates benefit from being in a group rather than taking individual instruction.

Advanced Group Lessons 1½ hours a day - 5 days.If there are enough people of your level to offer a group lesson, we will suggest that you join an Advanced Group Lesson. Usually if you are too advanced to fit into the group, we would recommend that you took private lessons. Your instructor will be able to recommend this to you on your first day.

Children’s Group Ski Lessons 1½ hour am and 1½ hour pm - 5 days. Running during school holiday weeks for children aged 5 and over, lessons are in groups of 8 or less. Children are matched to be a similar age and level and wherever possible we match children’s lessons to the timings of their parent’s lessons. (See also Family Ski Weeks on p23).

Private Ski Lessons 1½ hour sessions Book an instructor just for you and one other. The lesson will be tailored to suit your needs. (Group lessons are better than private lessons for beginners and less experienced skiers, who benefit from the extra supervised practice of a group lesson. Private lessons are more useful to the more advanced skiers who want to work on a specific part of their skiing).

Private Snowboard Lessons 1½ hour sessions English-speaking snowboard lessons for you and up to 2 additional people.

Adaptive Ski LessonsExperienced adaptive instruction is available exclusively to disabled Redpoint guests, from beginner to advanced level. See p27 for details.

Please note that all group lessons run from Sunday to Thursday, with no lessons on Fridays. Friday is the day for free skiing with your friends & family, trying out your new-found skills! If you plan to take less than 5 days of instruction, then please start on Sunday and finish early. If you’d like to take a “day off” then please take it at the end of your lessons. This is for your own benefit and that of the others in the group, as for the group to be successful and progress at the same rate, you all need to be together -taking a day off in the middle means you get behind the others. For the same reasons, it is not possible to join a group mid-week.

Redpoint Instructors are all english-speaking and hired from "Total" Ski school in Fügen and teach exclusively Redpoint guests.

Adaptive SkiingSKIING FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

Our Adaptive Programme has been introduced to provide people with a physical or learning disability the opportunity to ski. Specialised equipment and lessons with a qualified, experienced instructor can be pre-booked when making your holiday reservation.

The main aim is to enable a family or group of friends to go skiing together with their disabled friend or relative, with the ultimate goal of everyone ski-ing together. This can be achieved by teaching the disabled person to ski independently, and/or teaching a family member to assit as a buddy and so enabling the two people to ski together independent of outside help.

The level of independence achieved varies depending on the level of disability and the skiing ability of the “buddy”, so lessons for both the disabled skier and the buddy are offered.

Each holiday is tailored to suit your needs, so we ask you to complete an in-formation sheet and discuss your needs with our specialist before making your reservation. Please be honest and realistic when discussing your needs with us, give us all the details so that we can plan for your stay, as it is often not possible to change the arrangements once they have been booked.

Adaptive Skier Level: Beginner to Advanced - Lessons are tailored to your requirements. Your

instructor will adapt equipment and instruction to suit your needs.

Buddy Courses: Buddy Skills Private Lesson (1 x 1½ hours) £82

Please note that each session is 1.5 hours long, where there are 3 hours of instruction per day, they are usually split into a morning and an afternoon session.

Hotel Berghaus****This friendly and welcoming hotel in the nearby village of Madseit offers fantastic food, a large sauna and relaxation area and traditional rooms, some with great views of the glacier. With a ski bus stop just outside the front entrance, it is only a 5 minute drive to the ski lift.

Easter SkiingSNOW SURE GLACIER SKIING AT 3200 METERS!Skiing on the Hintertux Glacier is perfect in the spring. Up at 3000 meters the snow in April and May is usually excellent and it is normal to still be able to ski back down to the village at this time. The village itself is situated at 1500 meters, which means that spring comes later here than in the rest of the valley.

With Easter being so late this year and Hintertux being famous for it's thermal springs and luxurious spa facilities, we've put together some Ski & Spa offers to provide the ideal spring break.

Hotel Hohenhaus****Situated in Hintertux village, this hotel has an extensive spa area with swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna steam and relaxation areas. Tobogganing

Aprés SkiThere’s more to your holiday than just the skiing, so a range of optional evening activities and entertainment are offered in resort. This is a great chance to see more of the local area and their traditions, meet and socialise with Redpoint guests and staff and try out something a little bit different that will make your holiday even more memorable.

Tyrolian EveningsTravel up the mountain to the “Hunter’s Lodge” where the owners have been making traditional Zillertal music for many generations. Hear local folk songs with yodeling and watch the traditional Tyrolean dancing, with the men dressed in their leather shorts (Lederhosen). The evening is very light hearted with a chance to have a dance and join in.

Alpine RollercoasterThe “Summer toboggan run” or Alpine Coaster offers all the thrills of tobogganing without needing the snow. Still running in winter after skiing, you can jump in a 2-person seat that takes you on tracks up the mountain and winds back down again. There are brakes, but you don’t need to use them if you like going fast!

TobogganingTravel down the 7km long floodlit mountain trail on your 2-person wooden toboggan as fast as you like! Stop half way for a quick drink in a mountain hut before swapping drivers for the second half. This is by far the most popular evening activity and is great fun for all ages.

Austrian 9-pin BowlingA great way to get to know other guests and Redpoint staff by joining a bowling team. Take it in turns to bowl for your team in a range of amusing ways. If you score very high or very low, you may find yourself drinking Schnapps!

Night SkiingTry out snowboarding or snow blades for an evening on the floodlit slopes. This is a great way to try out a new snow sport without it interfering with your day’s skiing. Or simply go for more skiing! The slopes are floodlit between 8 and 10pm.

Sleigh RideLet the horses take you on a ride along the beautiful valley in the evening. See the mountains and the stars. When there’s plenty of snow, the carriage will change from wheels to a sleigh for that extra buzz.

Ice SkatingGo down to the Ice rink and have a skate in the open air.

Swimming & SpaVisit the village swimming pool and spa. With an indoor and heated outdoor area, you can relax amongst the bubbles and water jets. Children will enjoy the second longest slide in western Austria, the wave pool and for younger ones, the baby pool. Adults can relax in the heated outdoor pool under the stars.

ExcursionsNon-skiers and skiers can participate in a range of excursions, which take place on request. Some of them are half day trips, or can depart in the afternoons after skiing to allow skiers to fit both in.

InnsbruckVisit the Capital of the Tyrol region. With it’s beautiful historic old town square, empress’s palace and cathedral surrounded by high snow covered mountains, it is really breath taking. The town hosted the Winter Olympics twice in the 1970s, with the ski jump and lift system being recently re-designed by the famous architect Zaha Hadid to give an interesting mixture of traditional and modern architecture with a stunning mountain backdrop.

AchenseeTake a scenic drive up to the spectacular lake Achen. Surrounded by the beautiful Karwendel and Rofan mountain ranges, stop at the town of Pertisau on the lake side. In Pertisau stroll along the lakeside admiring the views, watch the cross country skiers who use the extensive cross country trails around the village, or have coffee and cake in a lakeside Konditorei.

Rattenberg & Schloss MatzenKnown as the most beautiful town in the Tyrol, Rattenberg is situated along the river Inn just out of the Ziller Valley. It has a castle overlooking the town and it’s old cobbled streets and impressive stone buildings are a pleasure to explore. The town is famous for it’s glassware, so there are lots of small shops producing glass and crystal in all shapes and sizes. On our way, we

make a stop at Gut Matzen, which is a stately home with lovely grounds and a towering old castle and a cosy café.

SalzburgVisit the musical city of Salzburg. Famous for being Mozart’s birthplace and for “The Sound of Music”, it is also a beautiful old historic city. Take a short orientation walk around the main sights with your guide before having free time to visit the castle and Mozart’s house and look around the shops.

Swarovski Crystal WorldsThe second most visited attraction in Austria, Crystal Worlds is an arty display using Swarovski Crystal as it’s central theme. There is an impressive entrance hallway of crystal and an interesting crystal room, followed by artistic displays. Disappointingly they do not demonstrate how their famous crystal is produced, as they say their methods are top-secret. But to make up for it, there is an extensive shop where you can browse and buy everything from a crystal pencil to a chandelier!

Silver Mines in SchwazVisit the incredible silver mine in Schwaz and see the mountains from beneath! This mine supplied 85% of the entire world’s silver during the Middle Ages, making the local owners one of the wealthiest families in the world at that time. It is now open to visitors and offers an exciting underground tour by train, where you can see a 400 million year old reef and learn about the mine and town’s amazing history.

Winter Ski & Board 2015HOW TO MAKE A BOOKING

Website: www.redpoint.co.uk | Tel: 0345 680 12 14

Essential Holiday InformationPlease read before making your booking to ensure that we request the correct facilities for you:

ROOMING - Most rooms in Austria are “Austrian Twins” this means that there are 2 mattresses with separate duvets and pillows in one bed frame. These rooms are sold as doubles or twins. A triple room is usually one Austrian Twin bed and one single bed, a four-person room is usually made up of 2 Austrian twins. If you prefer completely separate beds, then please request them when making your booking.

FAMILY ROOMS/ADJOINING ROOMS - Families are usually allocated family rooms made up of 2 Austrian twin beds (with an extra bed for a 5). Most family rooms are not separated by a door, often they are just one large space separated by a curtain, hallway or step between them. If you would like completely separate rooms with a door in between them, then please make this clear at time of booking, as this has to be requested direct with the hotel before we can confirm your booking. If you are allocated one room (even with adjoining rooms) it usually has one shared bathroom. If you prefer 2 bathrooms, you need to book 2 separate rooms rather than a family or adjoining room.

SINGLE ROOMS - You will usually be allocated a small Austrian twin room to use as a single and charged a single occupancy supplement.

BATHROOM FACILITIES - Most bathrooms are with a shower not a bath. If you have a preference, then please request this when making your booking.

APARTMENTS - Apartments sleeping from 2 - 11 people are possible, but please let us know a detailed breakdown of who will be sleeping in each room, as the layout of beds varies and some apartments will not suit your group’s needs. A standard four-person apartment is made up of an Austrian twin bedroom (sleeping 2 people) and a lounge room with a pull-out sofa bed (sleeping 2 people). A standard six person apartment is made up of 2 Austrian twin bedrooms (sleeping 2 people in each room) and a lounge room with a pull-out sofa bed (sleeping 2 people). Apartments for more than 6 people usually have more beds in each of the 3 rooms; they do not have additional rooms. If you would like to use the lounge as a living area, then you can request a larger apartment than you need and pay the

underoccupancy supplement to ensure that you have the extra space (for example, a family of 4 can book the 6-Person apartment to have the lounge room free).

COOKING FACILITIES - Cooking facilities are only available in apartments and they vary in each one. Some apartments have a couple of hot plates, a microwave and coffee machine, ideal for making breakfasts and the odd snack. Others also have a full size oven. Let us know if you are planning to cook roast dinners and need use of an oven, so we can ensure that the apartment booked for you has these facilities.

SHOPPING - The shops in Austria are closed on Sundays and close between 6 - 7pm on the other days of the week. If you are staying in apartments and would like us to provide you with a “Breakfast Pack” containing cereals, bread, cheese, ham eggs, orange juice etc. so that you have supplies for your arrival weekend, then please add this to your booking at least one week before your arrival in resort.

ALLERGIES AND DIETARY NEEDS - Note that the rooms have down duvets and pillows, so please let us know if you are allergic to feathers. If you are vegetarian, or have any other special dietary requirements then please let us know when making your booking to ensure you are properly catered for.

SPECIAL REQUESTS - If you are celebrating a special occasion or want to organise a special event for your group, then please let us know and we will prepare it for you. Cakes, flowers, champagne, a special excursion or evening out can be pre-arranged for you.

ACTIVITES, GUIDING & INSTRUCTION - Please pre-book any services that you cannot do without on your holiday. If you have not pre-paid when making your booking, then there is no guarantee that there will be a space left for you on arrival in resort. For example, if you are a beginner and can’t do without ski lessons, make sure you pre-pay your beginner ski lessons to reserve your space in the group - don’t risk being disappointed on arrival.

LUGGAGE & TRANSFERS - Let us know if you are bringing skis or a snowboard, boot bag, push chair, wheelchair, or any oversize luggage with you. Our transfers are usually by minibus and we allow for only

one average-sized suitcase per person unless we hear from you.

NAMES AND D.O.B.S - Please ensure that the passenger names you give us are as written on their passports and that they are spelt correctly. We need dates of birth for anyone under 19 to ensure that they receive the correct discounts.

FLIGHTS - Let us know not only your preferred airport, but also which other airports you would consider flying from, so that we can give you a range of flight options to choose from.

EARLY BOOKING - Our holidays work on a first come, first serve basis. So the earlier you book, the more likely it is that we will be able to cater for your special requests. When booking late, availability will be more limited so you will be asked to fit in with the guests that have booked before you.

ACCESS/MOBILITY - All the hotels have lifts, but the apartments and Bed & Breakfasts do not. Make us aware of your needs so that we can hold the correct room, or a ground floor apartment, for you before you make your booking. Remind us to request assistance for you when we book your flights.

CHILD CARE & BABYSITTING SERVICES - Redpoint do not offer in-house childcare. However, the tourist board offer crèche facilities at each of our local ski areas (Spieljoch, Hochfügen or Hochzillertal) and we are happy to help you to book a place for your child on arrival in resort. We can also assist you in arranging a babysitter in resort on request. Please ask our resort staff for assistance.

CHECK IN AND CHECK OUT TIMES - The standard checkin time is usually between 2 and 3 pm, check-out times are between 10 and 11 am. We do inform the hoteliers of your expected arrival time and they aim to prepare your rooms earlier if at all possible. If you have a late departure, it is worth asking the hotel whether you can keep your room. If you can’t keep your room, your luggage will be stored and the hotels allow you to use the showers and changing rooms in their sauna areas after skiing.

8. IF YOU CANCEL YOUR HOLIDAY:Once your booking has been accepted, a valid cancellation can only be made if you give written instructions to Redpoint Holidays. The instructions must be signed by the person who made the book-ing. The effective date for cancellation will be the date that we receive your written instructions at our office. If you cancel, a cancellation charge (being agreed damages to cover our estimated loss) calculated on the scale set out below becomes payable by you as the person who made the booking. Flights and Insurance premiums are non-refundable. Resort Services that have been pre-paid but not taken due to cancellation prior to departure may be refunded in full in some cases.

9. PRICE GUARANTEE:The holiday prices quoted on our website and in our brochure or verbally to you by ourselves or your travel agent (as applicable) are based upon an exchange rate as taken from the Financial Times Guide to World Currencies Table published on the 16th August 2014 and known costs on thatdate. The exchange rates are Euro 1.2457. We re-serve the right to make changes to and/or correcterrors in advertised prices at any time before your holiday is confirmed. We will advise you of any change or correction of which we are aware and of the then applicable price at the time of booking. Once the price of your chosen holiday has been confirmed at the time of booking, we will only increase or decrease it in the following circumstances. Price increases or decreases after booking will be passed on by way of a surcharge or refund. A surcharge or refund (as applicable) will be payable subject to the conditions set out in this clause, in the event of increases or decreases in transportation costs (e.g. fuel, scheduled airfares, or where our costs increase or decrease as a result of any changes in the exchange rates which have been used to calculate the cost of your holiday). Even in the above cases, only if the increase in our

costs exceeds 2% of the total cost of your holiday (excluding insurance premiums) and any amendment charges will we levy a surcharge. If any surcharge is greater than 10% of the cost of your holiday (excluding insurance premiums and any amendment charges) you will be entitled to cancel your booking and receive a full refund of all monies paid to us (except insurance premiums and amendment charges). A refund will only be payable if the decrease in our costs exceeds 2% as set out above. Where a refund is due, we will pay you the full amount of the decrease in our costs. Please note that travel arrangements are not always purchased in local currency and some apparent changes have no impact on the price of your travel due to contractual and other protec-tion in place. You have 14 days from the issue date printed on the surcharge invoice to tell us in writing if you want to cancel or purchase another holiday. If you do not tell us that you wish to do so within this period of time, we are entitled to assume that you will pay the surcharge. Any surcharge must be paid with the balance of the cost of the holiday or within 14 days of the issue date printed on the surcharge invoice, whichever is the later. We promise not to levy a surcharge within 30 days of departure. Please note that errors occasionally occur. You must check the price of your chosen hol-iday at the time of booking.

10. IF WE CHANGE/CANCEL YOUR BOOKING:Your holiday arrangements are planned many months in advance and on rare occasions it may be necessary to make modifications to them and we reserve the right to make such changes at any time. In the majority of cases such changes will be minor, but if they are of a more substantial nature we will do our best to advise you prior to your de-parture. If we are forced to make major changes (including cancellations) notified before departure to your holiday we will pay you compensation in accordance with the table below. Major changes will comprise such events as: Stay in resort reduced by over twelve hours or Change of accommodation to a lower standard. If you choose to accept the changed arrangements, we will pay you compensation on the scale shown below. If you choose not to accept the changed arrangements we will refund you all money you have paid us plus compensation on the scale

shown below. However in no case will we pay compensation if the change is due to an event listed in paragraph 12 below. On rare occasions the accommodation we have reserved for you may not be available on your arrival owing to an incident outside our control, in respect of which we may not have been notified in time to advise you before your departure. If this occurs we will endeavour to provide an accommodation of equivalent standard and with the same amenities if possible. If the only available accommodation is of a lower standard, we will refund the difference in price together with a compensation payment of £40 per person, as described below.
