R E D W O 0 D R E G I O N President's MessageBill Walters

2010 reigns in a new decade and your new President for the Redwood Region. I follow bright andknowledgeable leaders who previously presided and I am eager and confident to grasp the role and leadus forward honoring a fine Club. As you may have heard, I am a listener. I believe that a Presidential obligation is to be cognizant of hismembers' aspirations. I know you have seen me with notepad in hand; "taking names" as you call it.And you're correct. I am taking names. While I take my notes for the newsletter, I also record accountsof what you like and don't like during our venues. I will consider and perhaps employ these ideas intoour venues. Seriously, I do take notes. I talk to you one on one and you know that I am approachable forsuggestions and viewpoints. And you know you often get results. As President, I can make decisions andchanges expeditiously, depending on my Board. But I will continue to listen and move to makeimprovements in a careful and judicious manner. I believe in that system. Seek me out when you have an idea or when the light bulb goes off; I want to hear you. I want myBoard to hear you and I want the 9 other Zone 7 Regions to hear you. You are the voice of theRedwood Region!

So let's do it. It's fun, it's rewarding and it kindles the heart. And enjoy your Porsche! See you outthere!

Thought you had seen the last of me... in print...think again...Grasshopper! Our new President, BillWalters has asked me to write a monthly column filled with my various Porsche related tidbits from theweb and other machinations from my fact-filled brain before I get too old to remember. As JerryGladstone, our keeper of the law and Secretary says...the start of my "Presidential" library.

As you may know, the 2nd Annual Marin-Sonoma Concours d'Elegance is happening on Sunday, May 16,2010 at the Marin County Civic Center with Porsche as the featured marque and I am on the Board ofDirectors as the resident Porsche guy to coordinate the concours judging, designing and leading tours, etc.

I need volunteers and cars for judging for this wonderful event, which last year had 180 pristinecars and over 12,000 attendees and raised over $100,000.00 for Hospice by the Bay and we arelooking to exceed all those numbers this year! Here is the link for Marin-Sonoma Concours and theapplication for entering your car is located on the home page. http://www.marinsonomaconcours.org/ Since this will be the premier Porsche event for 2010 for the Northern California area, I am lookingfor the best of the best for these classes. Porsche 356 - 1949 -1965Porsche 911 - 1964 -1973Porsche race cars - any year These cars will be judged using the PCA rules for "street" concours, which will include everythingexcept the chassis. If your car fits these categories or you know someone with a pristine Porsche;please let them know about this Concours! I am looking for about 10 judges to assist in picking out the best Porsche in each class. Judges willreceive a special hat; get a free catered lunch and free admission! I have enlisted Mark Gersh, ourcurrent Zone 7 Concours Director as our coordinator.

In addition, planned for Saturday, May 15, 2010 are various tours that will leave from the CivicCenter and do back roads touring in Marin and Sonoma Counties with a picnic or catered lunch at theCivic Center so I am looking for tour "leaders". More details will be forthcoming soon! We haveparking for about 200 Porsches for the Saturday tours! If you would like to be involved as a judge or tour leader, please contact me at: [email protected]

The Flamingo Hotel in Santa Rosa was once again our venue for 2009's Holiday Party attended by 54of you folks who donned festive attire for the occasion. The event moved to the Terrace Grill this year, which afforded large windows looking out to the pool and terrace area of the hotel grounds. The scene actually was quite elegant. Tables for six accessorized with a center white poinsettia and goldand white balloons floating above the tables. There was a central no-host bar and a long buffet tableoffering the following menu of selections: A Winter Salad Bar and a Anti Pasto Salad Bar.Entrees included Angus Prime Rib Au Jus, Pink Salmon, Tri-Color Tortellini, Chef's Combo of beets, potatoes & rice pilaf, Winter Veggies and assorted desserts of mousses, cakes & pastries. Something foreveryone!

This was also Kurt Fischer's last event of his three year Presidency. His Honor greeted us and thenpresented me as your new President for 2010. I introduced our new Executive Committee that youelected in December; Greg Maissen, our new VP, Lynn Walters who continues as Treasurer and JerryGladstone who stays on as Secretary. This is a solid family of volunteers to lead your Region into thenew decade. Give them your support next time you cross paths. Following some acknowledging speeches and toasts, it was time to raffle off our 'gag-gifts'; presents weall brought to hand off to the next victim. Mac Cranford picked tickets out of a fishbowl for the recipientsand some good laughs to cap off the evening. A lot of you stayed around, loosen the tie, roll up thesleeves, to catch up, chat and plan for the Holidays ahead. Good end to a well attended, eventful yearand decade for that matter.

I would like to thank George & Shirley Neidel, Mary Neidel, Sharon Neidel and David Bunch for arrivingearly to help set up the decorations and keep the peace. Nice job. And thank all of you who graciously gave your time and help making for worthy fellowship and a strongbackbone for our Redwood Region. To 2010!
