reedy creek waste transfer...

COMPLETE Urban were engaged by the City of Gold Coast to project manage and deliver concept design, preliminary design and detailed design (including construction documentation) for a new waste transfer station and recycling and drop off centre at Reedy Creek. The facility was designed to service a population catchment of 200,000 with an annual throughput of 50,000 tonnes. The facility includes a recycling drop off and resource recovery area, green waste and construction and demolition waste pads, saw tooth waster transfer, recycling storage and hardstand area and a recycling retail store and yard. In addition, the site also provided dual weigh bridges, bypass lanes, buildings and site offices. The Reedy Creek site presented a number of constraints that required careful resolution. These included: Limited area available for the WTS due to elevated landform and adjacent quarry void; Elongated site which restricted opportunities to achieve long queuing lengths; The site was a previous landfill site with a legacy of uncontrolled fill and leachate pathways. The following issues were successfully managed by COMPLETE during the design process: Queuing lengths onto adjacent roads - complete redesigned the site’s internal road network so that internal road lengths and queuing capacity were maximised; Operational and public vehicles separated with minimal reversing of vehicles; Existing topography was undulating. The waste transfer was designed to incorporate split levels in order to provide best layout for high throughput facilities. The Reedy Creek Waste & Recycling Facility won the Waste Management Association of Australia’s 2015 Transfer Stations Excellence Award.

These included:

• Limited area available for the WTS due to elevated landform and adjacent quarry void; Elongated site which restricted opportunities to achieve long queuing lengths; The site was a previous landfill site with a legacy of uncontrolled fill and leachate pathways.

The following issues were successfully managed by COMPLETE during the design process:

• Queuing lengths onto adjacent roads - complete redesigned the site’s internal road network so that internal road lengths and queuing capacity were maximised; Operational and public vehicles separated with minimal reversing of vehicles; Existing topography was undulating. The waste transfer was designed to incorporate split levels in order to provide best

layout for high throughput facilities.

The Reedy Creek Waste & Recycling Facility won the Waste Management Association of Australia’s 2015 Transfer Stations Excellence Award.
