2015-16


Department of Commerce and Management

The Department of Commerce and Management is one of the premier department of

College. It was started in 2007-08 with 40 students and presently student strength is 500. The

Department consist of 06 Full time Faculty and 10 Guest Faculty. The Department offers

academic Programmes such as B.Com and BBA ( Affiliated to Bangalore University). The

Contribution of the Department in the rural area is significant, because our students are from

the bottom of the pyramid. Most of them are first generation students. The Alumni students

of the department are holding good positions in corporate and Government Sectors. The

department is providing expertise teaching having experienced faculties. Faculty members of

the department have presented papers at international / National Conferences and also

participated in all the academic activities. Most of the faculties are pursuing research in

various universities. The Department’s vision and mission is as follows:

Educating social responsibilities of business and need for business

ethics.

Enhancing Entrepreneurial skills among the students to make them self

sustainable.

The Departmental goal is to make our students socially responsible

ethically oriented corporate citizens.

Activities during 2015-16:

ENTREPRENEURS DAY:

A One Day grand trade fair/EDP Day was organized at College campus from 9.30 am

to 4.30 PM on April 03rd 2016, Prof. Veena.J.S., The Principal of our college

inaugurated the fair/EDP Day. 09 stalls (Both BCOM & BBA students about 15 in one

stall were involved) of different products & Services were set up in rows in the college

ground. Students from different groups of our college displayed their goods in an

attractive manner to draw the attention of the customers. Works of arts, handicrafts,

Ayurveda, Snacks & Chats, and many other things were displayed in the fair. There was

a food court also with special Girmit and Gala. Several students of the local schools and

College were found to purchase the things which were displayed in the Event.

General public also visited the EDP day & purchased the things & also they enjoyed the

services provided by the Students.

Prof. Veena.J.S, the Principal of GFGC, Devanahalli spoke about Future of Indian

Economy & the new Entrepreneurs, Risks and rewards etc.

Prof. Nagendraswamy P, The HOD of Commerce & Management & Co-ordinator of

the fair, informed the correspondent that - “We organized the fair with a view to

encouraging the students to become entrepreneurs as well as inspiring the consumers to

buy local goods. I think we have been successful.”

PROJECT REPORT PREPARATION

The students of Final Year BBM attended workshop on Project report preparation conducted

in Seshadripuram College, Yelahanka

BUSINESS QUIZ

On 15th February 2016, a Business quiz competition was conducted for all B.Com &

BBM students. It was conducted by making 5 teams of students and each team consisting of

3 members. The main aim of this event is to assess the general awareness and motivate them

to upgrade themselves. Prof. Balaji N.P. was the quiz master.


EDUCATION TOUR


SARASWATHI POOJA

On 12th April 2016, Saraswathi Pooja was organized by Final year B.Com & BBM

students on the occasion of their class socials and farewell function. All the faculty members

of the college were present and it was presided over by the principal Prof.J.S.Veena and faculty

members gave few tips, advices and guidance for future of outgoing students. Students also

expressed their feelings and experiences of their three years life in the college.


GUEST LECTURE:

On 01st March 2016, a guest lecture on “Career Guidance and Talk on GST & Service

Tax” for final year B.Com & BBM students was organized. It was delivered by Mr.

Hanumantharayappa, Chartered Accountant, Bangalore.

In addition to the above, our students are encouraged to participate in various literary

and cultural competitions conducted by various department of the college and also to

participate in Inter collegiate competitions and fest of other colleges.
