Page 16: Research Education 2011 Group 4 1D. 1.Statement of Objectives 2.Social Survey 3.Interview 4.Discussion 5.Conclusion 6.Q & A Session

What is the purpose of our interview

It is to find more information on different people’s point of view on how social networking improves relationship with one another and to find out what one can do to improve the relationship with others through social networking. Certain information that will help us in the completion of the project like the interviewee’s point of view.

Daryl: What are you thoughts about social networking?Daryl’s mom: I think it can be very useful in daily life because it helps you to be connected with your friends, well like all things with too much of it, it will be harmful.Daryl: Is social networking beneficial or harmful?Daryl’s mom: In general, I think it is more beneficial.Daryl: How do you think social networking improves relationship with people?Daryl’s mom: Through social networking, you will be able to stay in constant contact with your friends, you will be able to keep in touch with them constantly and be updated about your friend’s life.Daryl: In your opinion, how does social networking relief stress?Daryl’s mom: Through social networking, you will be able talk to your friends when you are feeling frustrated, so you will be able to express you feeling rather than coop up everything to yourself, which is more harmful. And somehow via the internet you will be able to say things that you normally don’t dare to say in words.Daryl: Do you think the amount of time spent on social networking should be cut down? Why?Daryl’s mom: That actually depends on the situation, if, lets say, if during the school holidays of course you can spend a bit more time via social networking when everyone is free, but if you say ther is a project or lots of exams coming, then you definitely have to strike a balance and cut down time that you spend on social networking.

Page 18: Research Education 2011 Group 4 1D. 1.Statement of Objectives 2.Social Survey 3.Interview 4.Discussion 5.Conclusion 6.Q & A Session

Daryl: Do you think cyber bullying is prevalent?Daryl’s mom: I think it is, especially among the teenagers.Daryl: Do you think social networking is the cause of cyber bullying?Daryl’s mom: I should think that it is the main cause through or via social networking but cyber bullying can also exist via blog and many other ways too.Daryl: How would you react if were a victim of cyber bullying?Daryl’s mom: As an adult, I would probably ignore because ,all these are not true, untrue postings, so I’ll probably just ignore the whole thing as it’s not worth my time. As people who know will know me as who I am, so they will not believe what those postings are too.Daryl: What do you thing could be done to curb one’s addiction to social networking?Daryl’s mom: The person need to be very disciplined and not spend too much time on social networking, got to strike a balance between everything he or she does.Daryl: To sum it up, do you think social networking has benifits?.Daryl’s mom: I think social networking has its own benefits.Daryl: Thanks.

Page 19: Research Education 2011 Group 4 1D. 1.Statement of Objectives 2.Social Survey 3.Interview 4.Discussion 5.Conclusion 6.Q & A Session

The conclusions for our project are:

1) Social networking can be an addiction although it has benefits to one’s friendship with others.

2) Social networking can cause cyber-bullying but as long as one do not care about it, it will be not much of a problem.

3) Social networking will reach its optimum when one is able to strike a balance between studying and social networking.

Also, the time that one spend on facebook does not mean that he will have better relationship with others.

As can be seen from the graph below.
