College Student Bullying Definition

• Bullying is defined as: offensive, intimidating, malicious or insulting behaviour, an abuse of power through means that undermine, humiliate or injure the recipient.

Forms of Bullying:

• Emotional – unfriendly, exclusion, tormenting• Physical – any sort of physical violence• Cyber – misuse of email, social media, chat

rooms, texting, telephone calls, technologies

Bullying and Harassment

• Bullying and harassment is behaviour that makes someone feel intimidated or offended. Harassment is unlawful under the Equality Act 2010. Examples of bullying or harassing behaviour include: spreading malicious rumours. unfair treatment in person or cyber space.

College Student Bullying and Harassment Policy

• City of Glasgow College has a ZERO Tolerance stance on Bullying and Harassment

• Policy aims to ensure a positive and supportive environment

• Foster good relations based on dignity and respect

• This policy is underpinned by the Student Disciplinary Procedure

Report Bullying Procedure• First instance to be resolved informally face to

face• Speak to your Guidance Tutor or Student

Services to log the matter. This will be referred onto the Faculty Curriculum Head

• The Faculty Curriculum Head will put the claim under investigation and a decision will be made.

• Student subjected to bullying will be given support by Student Services

Consequences• Depending on the severity of the claim, the

person named as the perpetrator may be suspended pending investigation

• This may effect bursary monies and other payments received

• The perpetrators may be given a recorded warning or expelled from college
