Welcome!
You enter this Church not as a stranger, but as a guest of God. As a baptized person, you enter it as a son or daughter of the Father in Christ.
This House of God, therefore, is your family home. Come in then with humility of mind, joy of heart and thanks on your lips. Come in and pause in prayer in the midst of
your busy life and its many worries.
Sixth Sunday in ordinary time February 17, 2019
Blest are they who trust in the Lord (1, Ps). Blest are they who are poor and who endure
insult for their reward shall be great (3): eternal life (2).
Charity & Development Appeal
“Blessed are the poor, the hungry, the downhearted and rejected. The message in today’s Gospel reminds us to act with compassion. Be the Love that Gives Hope with your gift to the Charity and
Development Appeal (CDA). Every gift is important, no matter how big or small. Our parish goal $60,000. For those who have not yet made a pledge, please do so today! These programs and services reach beyond the boundaries of any one parish to all of our community. Support works of mercy in our Diocese. Make a pledge, fill out your donor card today or donate online at dphx.org/CDA, and be an instrument of God’s love and mercy through your gift to the CDA.
HAND CARVED in BETHLEHEM February 16th & 17th
Ayman Khair represents about 140 Christian families from Bethlehem. These families have been dependent upon sales of their hand carved religious articles to tourists of the Holy Land. Due to the conflict in the Middle East, the tourism has been cut off.
In order to survive, they have turned to Christian communities in the United States to purchase their articles.
These hand-carved religious articles are beyond description. Carved from wood of the sacred
Olive tree, this workmanship has been traditional for these families for hundreds of years. It is hoped that through the efforts of Mr. Khair that these families have a little
income and are able to stay living in the Holy Land.
SUNDAY REFLECTION
One of the most difficult things to do in this present dispensation is to relinquish our control to someone else and depend totally on that person to lead and guide us. This is difficult in our age to do because education and learning have become idols to which people increasingly bow to. We live in a time of exceeding pride in human knowledge and accomplishment. We are also surrounded by a culture where the desires and rights of the individual are considered the greatest good—where I can have whatever I want or be whatever I want, as long as it doesn’t harm others or keep them from their own desires. Many see this as
a perfect argument against the existence of God and hence cannot accept to surrender to Him the control of one's life.
With this understanding in our present culture, l feel it is imperative that Christians have constant reminders of what it means to trust only in the Lord God Almighty. First thing to understand is that when we lean on our own understanding, we trust our own knowledge and discernment to support us through life. To an extent one can say there's nothing wrong with this kind of understanding. But the problem is what Jeremiah 17:9 reveals about the human heart: "the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” Therefore our own sinful nature can’t be counted on. Hence ,the warning from the Prophet Jeremiah not to trust in mere mortals is timely and should be taking seriously by any true believing Christian. In fact Jeremiah considers such behavior as foolishness and a curse because to trust in human power, ability or powerful
personalities which are unreliable can lead us astray.
Therefore, our primary trust is in the Lord, who guides our lives and not trusting in human resources which is like a withering
shrub in the arid desert.
The Scriptures teach us all we need to know about waiting and trusting on God and the benefits that comes with it.
Jeremiah 17 gives us clarity on this:
Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought,
for it does not cease to bear fruit. (7-8).
However, this doesn't suggest that life will no longer has difficulties, but rather if we trust God those difficulties are nothing to fear and that we can remain confident in God in the midst of them. He keeps us vibrant and useful to his will even when we feel languished or that the times are against us. Acknowledging God in everything means that we remember that no circumstances come to us outside of the Father’s will. Knowing this will give us strength even through difficulties, pains, and fears, because we
know that God will never leave our side.
Jesus Christ, the Word of God says in Matt 6:8 that our Heavenly Father knows what things we have need of even before we ask Him. Isn’t it good to know that we have a God that is omniscient or all knowing? That’s the first reason why you should trust Him, because He already knows everything about you. Talking of how God is deeply involved and concerned in human affairs 1 Peter 5:7 says cast, which means to throw, your cares, anxieties and worries on Him because He cares about you. Yes He cares about you! Whatever concerns you concerns Him. So whenever you’re faced with problems, situations and obstacles that seem insurmountable just throw them on Him, He can handle them. Yes , He’s Consistent also! This means He’s faithful and you can also count on Him and trust Him to do exactly what He says He will do every single time, even if others let
you down and or found to be unreliable God will never let you down, you can always rely on Him.
Think deeply and prayerful on the beatitudes and this: A curse on the one who trusts only in human resources – he will be like the dry scrub in the parched areas of the wilderness. But a blessing on the one who places his trust in the Lord. He is like the
tree planted near water, which never fades, never ceases to bear fruit. The choice is absolutely yours!

Amen.
Prayer for Vocations

response to your first gift of life and love. Illumine our families to be a light,
working together to bring your kingdom of justice and peace, not just here in this
community, but in the whole world. By your Holy Spirit,
may our hearts burn more and more to know Your Son, Jesus Christ, and to make Him
known forever. Amen.

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION PRAYER (For those who are not able to receive Communion at this time)
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
Prayer to Saint Michael, the Archangel
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of
the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell, Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Come to the Feast Bob Hurd
Refrain: Come, come to the banquet. Come, come to the feast. Here the hungry find plenty, here the thirsty shall drink, here at the supper of Jesus, come to the feast. Like the child whose fishes and loaves fed the multitude, in the Lord the little we have, broken and shared, becomes abundant food. ‘Til the seed is given to earth, it is just one grain; but once sown its death brings new birth, the harvest is rich; what’s lost is raised again.
Psalm 1
Blessed are they who hope in the Lord.

Blest Are They David Haas
Blest are they, the poor in spirit, theirs is the kingdom of God. Blest are they, full of sorrow, they shall be consoled. Refrain: Rejoice and be glad! Blessed are you, holy are you! Rejoice and be glad! Yours is the kingdom of God! Blest are they, the lowly ones, they shall inherit the earth. Blest are they who hunger and thirst, they shall have their fill. Blest are they who show mercy, mercy shall be theirs. Blest are they, the pure of heart, they shall see God! Blest are they who seek peace; they are the children of God. Blest are they who suffer in faith, the glory of God is theirs. Blest are you who suffer hate, all because of me. Rejoice and be glad, yours is the kingdom; shine for all to see.

Gift of Finest Wheat Thomas J. Porter
You satisfy the hungry heart with gift of finest wheat; come give to us, O saving Lord, the bread of life to eat. As when the shepherd calls his sheep, they know and heed his voice; so when you call your family, Lord, we follow and rejoice. With joyful lips we sing to you our praise and gratitude, that you should count us worthy, Lord, to share this heavenly food. Is not the cup we bless and share the blood of Christ outpoured? Do not one cup, one loaf, declare our oneness in the Lord? The mystery of your presence, Lord, no mortal tongue can tell: whom all the world cannot contain comes in our hearts to dwell.
Unless a Grain of Wheat Bernadette Farrell
Refrain: Unless a grain of wheat shall fall up on the ground and die, it remains but a single grain with no life. If we have died with him then we shall live with him; if we hold firm we shall reign with him. If anyone serves me then they must follow me; where ever I am my servants will be. Make your home in me as I make mine in you; those who remain in me bear much fruit.

Lead Me Lord John D. Becker
Blessed are the poor in spirit, longing for their Lord, for God’s coming kingdom shall be theirs. Blessed are the sorrowing, for they shall be con-soled, and the meek shall come to rule the world. Refrain: Lead me, Lord, lead me, Lord, by the light of truth to seek and to find the narrow way. Be my way; be my truth; be my life, my Lord, and lead me, Lord, today.
Oración a San Miguel Arcángel
Amen.
Canto de Entrada ————–———————–—
Cristo Está Conmigo Juan A. Espinosa
