Happy Holidays from the Revolt In Style Crew!

I sit here watching the clouds blowing in as another storm slowly approaches San Diego. Sounds like this one is going to be a monster (according to our local meteorologists). I suppose I should be sad that tomorrow there won’t be our typical bike ride on the board-

walk and morning coffee at Konos. But I’m not! I know that this storm means one thing for sure. Snow. Tons of the white stuff will be dumping at all the mountain resorts. We already have record snowfall at Mammoth Mountain. Let’s hope that we can match it at our local mountains as well. Our good friends at Burton have completely hooked us up this year with top of the line boards, boots & bindings. We can’t wait to test it all out! If everything goes as planned we should be up there by this time next week. Pray for snow!

The new look and feel of Revolt In Style seems to be a huge success. People have been coming out of the woodwork to be part of this cool little pub. I think it’s a sign of the times. We just keep putting out the work and our magazine speaks for itself. This recession has been tough on so many of our friends in San Diego and beyond. I was sorry to see so many of them close their doors due to the sluggish economy, slow tourism and a pretty bleak summer. For a while I was wondering if we were going to make it. But we kept our heads down, did the work & kept publishing the best magazine we could. Low and behold...here we are. Made it through another year. I have to thank my fiancé Leslie for all her hard work and for putting up with my grumpy ass. And a huge thanks to all the editors, writers, photographers, and miscellaneous helpers in 2010. We couldn’t have done it without you. I also want to thank every one of our advertisers and media partners that have worked with us this past year. If it was not for your support we simply would not be seeing the success that we are. We don’t take your friendship lightly and we hope that we will continue working together in 2011. Next year will mark our 5th anniversary with just Leslie and myself at the helm of Revolt In Style. It will also be the 5th year for the Revolt Summer Surf Series. We have had a blast so far and expect that the best is yet to come. I can’t wait to see what’s next. I hope you feel the same. WISHING EVERYONE A SAFE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!Peace - B&L

THE BEACHWOOD4190 Mission BoulevardSan Diego, CA 92109 858.750.2512

The BeachWood will be transformed into your prime time new years eve party location this New Years Eve. You’ll be witness to our one of a kind ball drop ceremony, NYE drink specials, and non-stop PB party madness. With three differentiating levels of all-encompassing entertain-ment, it’s more than safe to say that The Beachwood has brought an entirely newfangled concept to the shores of Pacific Beach. A luminous blend of light blue and teal hues and hardwood flooring, this spacious second level is home to the main dining room, a massive wraparound bar and capacious open-air windows overlooking PB’s sandy beach. Grab a seat at one of the four-top wrought iron tables and grub on some delectable Californian cuisine; or sink into one of the oversized leather couches.

Our one of a kind lounge “Reds Saloon” will be opening its doors at 6AM for everyone look-ing to keep their party going into 2011. Reds Saloon is oozing with masculine allure from the core, it’s safe to say that the rock ‘n’ roll-inspired Reds Saloon is far from its oceanic upstairs counterparts. From the massive taxidermy bison heads and party animal Boaris mounted on the walls to the rich red hues set against dark wood paneling, the one and only Reds Saloon can quite literally double for a dark and dingy man cave. Levi LaVallee Injured Necessitates Event CancellationLevi LaVallee was injured on Tuesday, December 14, while practicing in South-ern California for his planned world record snowmobile distance jump at this year’s Red Bull: New Year. No Limits. event, set to take place in San Diego on December 31 and telecast on ESPN. LaVallee was immediately transported to a local hospital where he is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery. As a result of this incident, however, it has been decided that Red Bull: New Year. No Limits. will be cancelled this year.

The safety of Red Bull’s world-class athletes is paramount, and all precautions were taken during LaVallee’s testing sessions to ensure he could perform in the safest-possible setting.

Leading up to the event, LaVallee, 28, from Longville, MN, worked with athlete performance experts, aerodynamics experts and engineers, in addition to his core team, in an effort to get the most out of his body and snowmobile. During testing, LaVallee jumped an astounding 361 feet, eclipsing the existing re-cord by 60 feet. This jump will be submitted for world record certification.

LaVallee has had a very successful career in several snowmobile dis-ciplines. A snocross racer for more than 15 years, he took up free-style in 2007, and at Winter X Games 12 in 2008, he won the gold medal in the Freestyle and Speed & Style events and was named Athlete of the Games. In 2009, he won the Pro Stock Snocross championship and came thisclose to landing the first-ever snowmobile double backflip at Winter X 13, garnering global media at-tention. Earlier this year, at Winter X 14, he took gold in the newly-created Snowmobile Knock Out event, his seventh Winter X Games medal.

RED BULL .NEW YEAR. NO LIMITSDERAILED IN SAN DIEGO

LaVallee was to be the fourth athlete to star in Red Bull’s annual New Year’s Eve celebration on ESPN, which highlights extraor-dinary athletes pushing their physical, mental and technical limits to break boundaries and records. Robbie Maddison jumped his motorcycle 322 feet over a football field in Las Vegas in 2007 and followed it up in 2008 by jumping onto – and off – of the 96-foot-tall Arc De Triomphe at Paris Las Vegas. Also in 2008, Rhys Millen backflipped an off-road truck. Last year, Travis Pastrana jumped his rally car 269 feet over water, landing on a barge in Long Beach’s Rainbow Harbor.

Whether it’s the desert or a warehouse, a club, a mountain top, or far into the forrest….one things for sure: be prepared for a journey through deep basslines, enticing beats, & cerebral sound-scapes.

DJ Carlo - As a dj his aim is to take his listeners through a musical journey. Start-ing the night out with some smooth jazzy latin hip-hop beats to get the audience warmed up and the eventually working them into some down-tempo dub steppin’ glitched out bass rattling beats and eventually building them up to the fast paste mind boggling electro disco distorted funk.

MASK IT• Have an over-the-counter pain-killer such as aspirin or ibupro-fen, to help ease the headache. Do Not have acetaminophen-based pills; these can be danger-ous when mixed with the alcohol in your system. Do you take pills before you go to bed or after you wake up in the morning? Ask the doctor: “Take the pills in the morning, not before going to bed when the alcohol is still prominent in your system.” You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.

SURF IT• Without a doubt the ultimate hangover cure in San Diego is a New Years Day surf session. A dip in the chilly 50 degree waters of the Pacific will snap you out of even the most crippling, blinding, painful hangover in no time at all. Some of my best memories of all time surround the annual NYD paddle with my surf buddies. Mis-ery enjoys company. If you get lucky and actually score a descent swell on NY morning, chances are pretty good that you’ll have a nice long paddle out. Which, in kind, will cause you to ralph. Not necessarily a bad thing. This both cleans out the stomach and provides some much needed comic relief in the line-up. Always a crowd pleaser. Sometimes highly contagious. After a good NYD surf you will feel both elated and exhausted. Time to go home, get in bed and let your liver do it’s job. If you live w/ your girl, take advantage of the situation, then get some sleep.

THE MORNING AFTER:THINGS TO DO...• Upon waking up, text “aarrghh” to anyone you saw the night before• Wake up whoever is lying next to you, evaluate, seize the moment...or run.• Smoke every salvageable cigarette in the ashtray• Take a shower; it will feel pretty good, and when you throw up in there, you have less cleaning up to do• Listen to side two of Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’• Bong rip, fresh-squeezed orange juice, watch The Hangover• Beat yourself up over missed chances, lost opportunities & already-broken resolutions• Go back to sleep

THE HANGOVER CURE The holidays are a traditional time for overindulgence in alcohol. New Years Eve seems to be the ultimate crippler. Here are some common (and not so common) hangover cures:

OUTRUN ITThrusters Lounge4633 Mission BoulevardSan Diego, CA 92109-2733(858) 483-6334 • Drink a Bloody Mary. While your blood is dealing with the new alcohol it is ig-noring the old and in the mean time tomato juice and celery are full of vita-mins. There has been a tradition in San Di-ego amongst industry people for years. ‘1st Call’ at Thrusters Lounge. No better way to ring in the new year than a 6am toast with your favorite SD waitress or bartender. Af-ter a long night of putting up with everyone else’s crap this is how top industry players decompress in style. NYE partygoers have an opportunity to outrun their hangovers by downing more cocktails, listening to some dope house & electro, and swapping war stories about the night before. Not for ev-eryone, but every year is epic and the topic of conversation for weeks, if not months to come. Also a notorious location to snag that last-last minute hook up with a hottie.

WATER IT• Drinking Plus One Water between drinks is a great way to prevent the ail-ing morning-after effects, and helps save the world. The symptoms you’re feel-ing post-drinking are signs of dehydration caused by the alcohol. That’s why you must rehydrate yourself by drinking a lot of water when you get up. Rehydrating your body is the key to recovering from the hangover, When you purchase a bottle of Plus One Water at the club or your local store, you have chosen to help your community in one of three ways...RED - Quality of LifeBLUE - Rivers, Lakes and Oceans. GREEN - Environment.
