The concept of the Greek Newsletter is to provide an avenue for information, updates, accolades and events that will highlight the eight Greek groups, the Greek national honor society, and governing council at Ripon College. Each issue will

include upcoming events, articles and opinion pieces by Ripon College Greeks, and the support system that surround them.

The ultimate hope of this newsletter is that the reader(s) will find him/herself more aware of Ripon College Greek Life, its

service to the community, and events present not only on the Ripon College campus, but in the community as well.

Life is off to a

productive start. The

Boys and Girls Club

has been officially

declared to be the

philanthropy of Greek

Council. Also in the

world of philanthropy,

Greek Council is in the

midst of planning a

fundraiser to raise

funds for United Way.

On October 15th,

several campus leaders

will have the

opportunity to be

dunked in a dunk tank

by students. Among

these campus leaders

will be President

Messitte, chapter

leaders, Panhellenic

President and Inter

Fraternity President.

On another note, an all

Greek Ball with a

roaring 20s theme is to

come Wednesday

November 13th for

Greek unity. The all

Greek Ball is an

opportunity for all

Greeks to come

together and represent

Greek life as a whole.

Delta Lambda Newsletter

Delta Lambda Chapter

On Saturday October 12th, Alpha Chi Omega will be hosting their 11th Annual 5K

Walk/Run to support Victims of Domestic Violence. The contributions will benefit

the Christine Ann House in Oshkosh, WI and the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation.

If you are interested in supporting our cause, donations can be sent to Cat Carbajal, carbajalc@ripon.edu. If you are interested in registering for the event you can email Amanda Finn, finna@ripon.edu. Registration for the 5K is $15, which includes entry into the race, a T-shirt, and one raffle ticket.

Raffle tickets are also being sold separately. The three large prizes this year are a Vera

Bradley Tote Bag, Michael Kors Clutch, and a Tablet. Raffle Tickets are $5 a piece.

ADPi Hop Over parent’s weekend we hosted our third annual ADPihop! This event is an all you can eat pancake

breakfast and volleyball tournament that benefits the

Ronald McDonald house. We had a great turnout for the event this year and raised over $1500! Thank you to

everyone that participated, especially the faculty team.

New Alphas We are so excited to welcome home eight wonderful new ladies to our sisterhood! On September 20th we welcomed

home Sara Driebel, Shannon Franklin, RaeAnn Brixius, Erika Riebe, Hannah Herzog, McKala Kiessling, Nikki Ath-

anasiou, and Jamie Wegner.

Take Back the Night

On September 12th Panhellenic hosted the 2nd annual Take Back the Night. We were very excited to spread the

word about ending domestic violence and showing our support for women around the world to be able to walk alone at night without having to feel threatened. Most of

our house was in attendance and we had a wonderful time!

Kappa Delta welcomes new member Gillian Grocke! The ladies of Gamma Tau are thrilled to wel-come Gilly to the family and have enjoyed teaching her about all things KD. She will be initiated in-to the Kappa Delta family on Thursday, October 17.

Over the summer, Chapter President Amanda Mueller and Vice President of Public Relations attended Kappa Delta’s 60th biannual national conven-tion in Boston, Mass. Themed “A Field of Dreams,” this convention high-lighted Kappa Delta’s dream team and outstanding chapters, held leader-ship sessions and workshops, and celebrated the beautiful sisterhood of Kappa Delta. Gamma Tau received honors for the Highest Sales per Capita for our annual magazine fundraiser, a big honor for a little chapter in Wis-consin.

The ladies of Gamma Tau also held a successful Shamrock week, the annual weeklong fundraiser for our national philanthropy Prevent Child Abuse America and Center for Families in Madison, Wis. Between Shamrock’n shakes, a fundraiser night at Zuzak’s 50/50 raffles on campus and in the com-munity, and a silent auction at Septemberfest, Kappa Delta successfully raised a great deal for their philanthropies. Kappa Delta will also begin work with local Girl Scout troops in October with our first event of the semester on Oct. 10, followed by an International Girl’s Day celebration on Nov. 14. These workshops allow our chapter to work with young girls and build confidence and leader-ship skills alongside local troops.

This semester, the ladies of Kappa Delta will be focusing on academics – and fun! Workshops this semester will focus on leadership, time management, and sisterhood. In our fifth year on cam-pus, Gamma Tau is working on their vision for their future on Ripon College campus. Pictured are the women of Kappa Delta at a themed house meeting. Sisters dressed in their favorite color for the chapter’s weekly meeting. From hot pink to glitter and every color in between, Gamma Tau girls are as beautiful and varied as the colors of a rainbow.

The chapter is entering into a new year holding the title of highest fraternity GPA on campus for two semesters running. While we strive to maintain and improve upon this accomplish-ment, we are also in the final stages of planning our Derby Days fundraiser for October 6, which will benefit the Huntsman Cancer Institute. The brothers were pleased to meet with alumni from the ‘1960s for dinner in September, where we gained a new appreciation for what it means to be lifelong Sigma Chis. This was a step forward in our chapter goal of reimagined the alumni relations chair in order to expand alumni network in the future. We take great pride in our accomplishments thus far and continue to pursue the virtues of Friendship, Justice, and Learning. In Hoc Signo Vinces!

The Delta Omega chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity is proud to announce that with your help, we have been able to donate over $2,000 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through the ef-forts of Frisbee Golf 2013. This is an annual event that Theta Chi organizes for every Septem-ber. This year our event was held on September 21st and involved over a dozen teams playing Frisbee Golf throughout campus. The theme was taken from the 1996 classic film Space Jam. In addition to this particular event, Theta Chi al-so hosted a "Leukemia & Lymphoma Society" night at Zuzaks' burger restaurant on Watson Street last semester. The tremendous amount of money that we raised will go to fund cancer research in addition to the aid and support that the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society gives to can-cer patients. We would like to show our grati-tude to all participants for aiding a great cause! Thank you for supporting our mission of extending the helping hand. We hope to see you next year at Fris-bee Golf 2014!

PHI DELTA THETA

So far this year Phi Delta Theta has continued with the improvements that were be-ing made over the last few semesters. For this first time in many years we had a fall pledge class, and we are very excited with the increasing interest in our fraternity. However even with our fall pledge class we are turning our attention to the spring. We have already held two recruitment events, the first being a corn roast and most recently we held a casino night in our lounge. We had a very good turnout for both of these events and as a result are very optimistic about a large new member class in the spring. This is part of a continuing trend of growth for our fraternity that we have seen over the last couple years and is a welcome sight. Due to the great inter-est that was shown in our first two recruitment events, we are excited for our third event which will be a fish fry held November 21st. This is a new event for us; how-ever we still expect a similar turnout as the previous two events.

At this point in the semester we are very pleased with our progress thus far, and we are on pace to reach many goals set by the house. As the year progresses we expect to continue on improving our fraternity and are excited to see Phi Delta Theta grow both nationally and here on campus.

The men of Merriman are excited to kick of the 2013-2014 school year. We have set our goals high this year to do our best in the classroom, athletic field, and through our community service events. We come into the year having to try and fill the large shoes left by last year’s graduating seniors. Many of whom are attending graduate school while the rest have begun there ca-reer in their chosen profession. Last year’s pledge class has already made strides of taking an active part in the house with many of them taking on house positions to fill the void left by the 2013 graduating class.

The house as a whole has set high standards for this year’s grades. We made great strides from the fall semester to the spring semester last year. We hope to continue that improvement again for this semester.

Many of the Phi Kappa Pi brothers are in the midst of a sports season or preparing for a spring season. From the house, we have 14 members on the football team, one of which senior Jon Petkoff who was voted as a team captain for the season. Mike Crusan is taking the success he had as a player for Ripon across the sideline as an assistant coach. Many other members are involved with intramural sports. We have many plans for community service events this year. The men of Phi Kappa Pi con-tinue to take care of our adopted highway as we have for many years. This year our community service chairs person is in com-munication with Oshkosh Boys and Girls Club to work together and have some of our members spend time with the children.

Overall we are very excited for this school year, and we expect great things to come from the Phi Kappa Pi fraternity.

THETA SIGMA TAU

To the left is Theta Sigma Tau annual trip to the Bristol Renaissance Faire with the acrobatic troop Barely Bal-anced.

Every year, within the first two weeks of the fall semester we take a trip to the Faire. Everyone enjoys getting dressed up or simply browsing the ec-lectic shops and watching acts such as sword fighting, jousting, singing, or comedic routines. The weather this year was perfect and made for an in-credibly enjoyable day.

To the right is the Tau spon-sored Masquerade Dance.

We hosted the Masquerade Dance in honor of Stepha-nie Howard, an alumnus of the house who is currently struggling with leukemia. Most attending students made their own masks, but we also provided fun facial wear for anyone who did not bring their own.

Halloween Party on Friday November 1st!

Everyone in the house is excited for our upcom-ing Halloween party. Everyone is invited, so bring your best outfit or just yourself and come enjoy a night of dancing and fun in the Pub!

events across camps, such as

Greek Carnival and Hazing

Prevention Week. To

advocate against hazing, we

sponsored the case study

competition on October 3rd.

This challenged students to

solve hazing issues in

hypothetical situations. In

addition to these great

accomplishments, we are

also looking to accept new

applicants into one of the

most prestigious Greek

honor societies in the nation.

Applications are due on

October 30th at 4:00pm to

Omega has reached great

heights. On September

17th, we celebrated our one

year anniversary of being

part of the Ripon College

community. Our chapter

currently has 12 active

members which meet bi-

weekly to discuss our goals

and mission here at Ripon.

As the only academic-based

honor society specifically for

Greek students, we look to

communicate the importance

of academics and

philanthropy to all students.

We have done this by

participating in various

our expansion across campus

through this application

process.
