Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
when we all live together. (Psalms 133:1)
WOW! How awesome are your communities, Jacob the places where you gather, Israel!
WOW! How awesome it is that we are all here together today!
In English we often call our prayer space a “Synagogue” or ‘Temple.” You may also have heard someone use the Yiddush word “shul.” In Hebrew, in addition to x® C, synagogue,
there is also the phrase, , from Sefer Beresheet when Avraham created a prayer space to pray to God. refers to a holy place that is separate and unique. As we enter this we
join our community to pray together.
As we come together as a
Kehillah Kedusha, a Sacred
Community, to welcome the
New Year, we take a moment
to greet and welcome each
other into our Makom Kadosh,
Sacred Space.
A hug, a kiss or a smile helps make
everyone feel at home here in our synagogue
family.

Thank You God for: 1 This chance to tell the difference between daytime and nighttime!
3 Making me in Your image!
4 Making me a Jew!
5 Making me a free person!
6 Giving strength to those who are down!
As we begin our morning as a community, we focus on our
blessings in life. These blessings focus both on our individual
opportunities to continue God’s work as well as our communal responsibility to be partners
with God.
The New Year begins with
gratitude and thanks
for the many opportunities we have in our lives.
What is the thing you are most thankful for?
What makes you smile every day?

In the book of Proverbs from the TaNakH we learn that a tzadik is described as someone who “falls
seven times, and rises again.” (Proverbs 24:16) We learn from this that a tzadik, acts on what he or
she believes and does not give up despite the challenge.
h¥r§J-Happy!Happy are those people who live in Your house,
They will sing Your praises forever.
People like this are happy! People who partner with God are happy!
sh , j¥,IPYou open Your hand and You help all that live!
God, You protect all who love You, and keep us safe from evil.
We bless God now and forever. Halleluyah!
As the New Year begins, we
recognize our partnership
with God with joy and happiness.

Page 13
Halleluyah! Praise God!We praise God in God’s holiness
We praise God for God’s awesome actswith a Shofar blast
and by strumming the lute and harpby beating drums and dancing
by blowing the flute and crashing cymbals.
Let all souls that breathe praise God!
Our tradition celebrates our
uniqueness. Some have the
gift of music, others can
create beautiful art; all of these special talents,
when they come from the heart,
are ways we can praise God.
What makes you special and
unique?

As we pray together today we recognize the holiness of our kehillah, our community, and the support we offer each
other in communal prayer.
During the time of the Temple in
Jerusalem the Shofar was used
to gather people for prayer. Today
we use our own voices to gather
our community together.
What is a blessing that
you would like to share with our
community?
COME! Let us bless God!Bless God now
and forever!
Blessed are You, God, Source of all blessing, Who creates light and forms darkness, inspires peace and forms all things.
Be HumanStrive to be human - Dare to make a differenceDare to be different - In the face of indifference.
To be the eyes of the vision,The voice of those who cannot speak
To stand by the lonely and to carry the weak
Yes we can stand above the crow,Raise our voices loud, from our actions be proud.
Yes we must rise above our fears, draw the enemy nearNot by might but by spirit we are here.
Marbeh Tzedakah, Marbeh ShalomThe more righteous acts, the more peace.

Page 19
It is sometimes very hard
to describe “love.” We can describe what
we love or how we show love, but the feeling
itself is often an indescribable
emotion. When the Shema
challenges us to love God, the text does not
define what this love is. Instead
the Shema gives us a road map
to form this type of powerful
relationship in our lives.
What do you think it means to love
God?
Hear! Listen! Israel: God is our God, God is One!
Praise God’s name Whose honor and presence is with us now and forever.
You should love God With all of your thoughts With all of your feelings
And with all of your actions.
And these words that I command you today, must always be in your heart. Instruct these commandments to your children
and speak of them when you are sitting at home, when you are traveling on a path,
when you go to sleep, and when you wake up. Attach a symbol of your partnership with God on your arm
and between your eyes and write this reminder on the door-posts of your houses and on your gates.

We learn from the Torah and are reminded in the Amidah that Avraham,
Sarah and all of our ancestors
created personal relationships with
God. The Amidah reminds us that
we too can create a personal
relationship with God!
It’s not easy to pray. Before we begin the Amidah,
we ask God for help... £God, let me find the words to begin my Tefillah with You.
God! Remember us with life. Write us into the Book of Life!
Who is like You, God, source of oh¦n£jr, compassion.
From Generation to Generation we create our blessings for You, God
You will always be with us!

The mourner stands so that the community can recognize who needs extra attention and love.
Other ways we can help the mourner say Mourner’s Kaddish:
