j|à{ `tÇç g{tÇ~á4 We welcomed thousands of people to our parish for Christmas

Masses and I thank the many parishioners and staff members who made everything go so well and with such beauty. Preparations for Christmas be-gan, of course, many days before Christmas Eve, and I thank my brother priests and deacons, Drago Bubalo, and all the members of the choirs for their work before and during the Christmas season. To Father Tom Tassone and his helpers for the magnificent decorations in the church. Our church looks amazing! Also, I offer a special thanks to the maintenance team – Frank Deo, Scott Deo, Tom Nolan, Kevin Keenan and John Lahey – who put up the decorations around the campus and prepared Monsignor Kirwin Hall and the Gymnasium for Christmas Mass. Many thanks to Father Kevin Dillon for making all the arrangements for the Christmas Rock Mass again this year. Also, many thanks to our sacristans, especially Frank Keenan and John Hayes, and to all the parishioners who served during the services – Ushers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Lectors and Altar Servers.

Christmas Day marks the end of a special season of giving aid to those in need. The Christmas outreach of St. Aidan’s starts at home but ex-tends also to parishes and agencies beyond our borders, and so I thank all the parishioners and Rose Marie Cavallaro, the Director of Parish Social Ministry, and the volunteers from PSM who enabled so many people to en-joy a merrier Christmas.

Lastly, I am overwhelmed by the generosity of all who attend Mass at our parish. I thank you for your commitment to our parish and the Catho-lic faith.

I pray that God will send you special blessings in 2013.

LIGHTHOUSE CATHOLIC MEDIA Lighthouse Catholic Media and I wish all of you a blessed, healthy and joyful 2013!!

The work for the “Year of Faith” starts now, with a call to bear witness everywhere to Christ!! As our Holy Father tell us “it is necessary that all Christians roll up their sleeves and make known Jesus Christ and His Gospel!” The lay faithful have a duty to proclaim the Good News in the midst of secularization, consumerism, the problem is how to remember God, how to fight the widespread indifference, how to reach those whose faith has weakened. We must go back to an intense sacramental life, and with a joyful heart enter into dialogue with those who have fallen away! With the New Year we have changed the entire CD titles. We started a way to understand the teachings of the Old Testament and the New Testament. Some of the new titles: “Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist” by Dr. Brant Pitre. The best historical explanation of the Eucharist. “Abraham”, by Stephen Ray. Revealing the Historical Roots of our Catholic Faith. “The History of Salvation”, by Msgr. Daniel Deutsch. A powerful explanation of God’s Plan for His People. “The Dead Sea Scrolls”, by Dr. John Bergsma. A professional presentation shedding new light on the Scripture and the Church. “The Best Way to Live”, by Mat-thew Kelly. How is the best way to live? Are we living our best life? “Heroic Witnesses” The Triumph of Persecuted Catholics in Russia. These CDs are a way to prepare us for the work that lies ahead of us. The Holy Spirit will show us the right way and will help us with a grateful heart for being part of this wonderful Catholic Church!! Toti Conforti

PEANUT BUTTER GANG Join us on Saturday, January 12th at 8:15 AM in the East Campus cafeteria

t o make peanut butter and jelly sand-wiches for the hungry and homeless on Long Island. Children under the age of 9 cannot be accommo-dated and those under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults must have taken the Virtus Train-ing. You have to pre-register at our e-mail address: [email protected] Unfortunately, due to logistics, if you do not pre-register, you cannot participate. Please bring a jar of peanut butter, a jar of jelly, and 2 loaves of bread. This month we need all supplies. Thank you. Remember what Jesus told us, “Amen I say to you, whatever you did for the least of my brothers, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40).

Suggestions for the Month of January 2013 At the start of the New Year let’s celebrate Jesus’ birth,

remembering the best gift we have received: Jesus which we receive in the Eucharist at every Mass.

Make resolutions which will bring us closer to God.

To spend one hour every month in adoration in front of the Blessed Sacrament (our parish holds adoration two times every month).

Attend an extra Mass every week, and if it is possible, two to pray for our family members and friends that have fallen away from God.

Help in any way possible our parish Social Ministry, or visit a nursing home, or a neighbor in need of a good word. All of these acts, done with love, will bring us closer to Christ, and will

reflect His Love to everyone around us.

Share your reactions and feedback at [email protected]

or call (516) 746-6585 x9592. St. Aidan’s Pastoral Council

tries to be responsive to the needs of our parish.
