Sacrament of Baptism We look forward to welcoming you and
celebrating the Sacrament of Baptism of your child. You may begin preparation even
before your child is born. To begin the process, call Sue at 860-747-5451.
The date of the Baptism is scheduled after attending the Parent Preparation Program and
registering with OLM. Please note that Godparents must be confirmed and obtain a Sponsor Certificate from their own Catholic
parish. Baptisms normally take place Sundays after the 10:30am Mass.
You are Invited to Become an Altar Server! Children who have received
the Sacrament of Holy Communion this year and in the past are invited
to become altar servers. You may choose the Masses that you are able to serve. If you usually
attend the same Mass every weekend, please consider serving that Mass. You are not
required to serve every weekend, usually twice a month. The schedule is made up 2 weeks prior to the month that will be served. The parents of those interested or have questions are asked to
contact Fr. Ray.
Parish Informative Booklet So many of you have responded! Thank you. We would like to hear from more groups. The
plan is to develop an informational booklet descripting the various organizations, committees,
and ministries offered in our parish. Each grouping within our parish is asked to write a short description of their group stating why they exist and what their goals are. Once the booklet is completed it will be made available in the church and parish center. It will also be given to new parishioners. Submissions should be directed to Jo-Ann in the parish office. If
you have any questions, please contact Jo-Ann or Fr. Ray. Please call or email the office for a sample description to help you get started in writing your
group information.
Religious Education Volunteer Opportunities We are in need of a volunteer to teach 7th Grade next fall. All of the other
positions have been filled. Thank you for a wonderful response to the call of the Holy Spirit. We pray that
the Holy Spirit will continue to guide us in the
growth of our new Religious Education program, for we cannot do this on our own. The success of our religious education
program depends on the dedicated individuals in our parish willing to share their time, talents and faith with our parish children. The Mission of a
Catechist is such an important one. It is a mission that has been given to the whole Church. A
Catechist must be at least 18 years old, a practicing Catholic who has a love for children and/or teens and the desire to grow in faith. Virtus training and
background check are mandated by our Archdiocese. Teacher training and support is
available to all our Catechists. Please call Jeanne at 860.747.6825 for additional information. Faith
Formation fee for families of Catechists are waived as a small token of appreciation for your efforts to
share our faith with our parish children. We want to thank all of those parishioners who have come
forward and have offered to teach next fall!
Brake the Cycle of Poverty
In July 2003, 8 cyclists and 6 support staff from
St. Bridget Church in Manchester rode from
Manchester, CT, to Washington, DC, to raise
awareness of poverty; visiting parishes along the
way. Please join us this Sunday evening at 6pm
in the parish center, room 106, to learn more
about poverty in Connecticut and in our town of
Plainville. A member of the Brake the Cycle of
Poverty Team will be our guest sharing their
insights and thoughts. All are welcome.

Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima In the spring and summer of 1916, nine-year-old Lúcia
dos Santos and her cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto were herding sheep at the Cova da Iria near their
home village of Aljustrel in the parish of Fátima, Portugal. They later said they were visited three times by
an apparition of an angel. They said the angel, who identified himself as the "Angel of Peace" and
"Guardian Angel of Portugal", taught them prayers, to make sacrifices, and to spend time
in adoration of the Lord.
Marian Apparitions
Beginning in the spring of 1917, the children reported apparitions of an Angel, and starting in May 1917, apparitions of the Virgin Mary, whom the children described as "the
Lady more brilliant than the Sun". The children reported a prophecy that prayer would lead to an end to the Great War, and that on 13 October that year the
Lady would reveal her identity and perform a miracle "so that all may believe."[3] Newspapers reported the
prophecies, and many pilgrims began visiting the area. The children's accounts were deeply controversial,
drawing intense criticism from both local secular and religious authorities. A provincial administrator briefly
took the children into custody, believing the prophecies were politically motivated in opposition to the officially secular First Portuguese Republic established in 1910. The events of 13 October became known as the Miracle
of the Sun. (More of the story next week) Taken from www.en.wikipedia.org
Fifth Sunday Rosary
Next Sunday the Rosary will be prayed at 2pm in the
church. It will be led by the members of the Knights of
Columbus. The Fifth Sunday Rosary was incorporated
to help bring parishioners together in a spiritual activity
and promote devotion to Mary. The Knights, their
families and other parishioners are encouraged to pray
the rosary as a corporate body every time a 5th
Sunday occurs during a month. Everyone is invited.
Our Lady of Mercy Vacation Bible School

Our theme this year is Roar! Life is wild God is
good. The children ages 3 – 10 will participate in
memorable Bible learning
activities, sing catchy songs
and make a daily craft.
Each day they will collect a
Bible memory buddy to
remind them of God’s love
and each family will receive
a music CD on Friday to
continue the fun at home. The fee is only $25
per child for the week. Registration is very
limited. We only have a few spots left. Please
call Jeanne at the OLM Parish Office at
860.747.6825 for a registration form.
Donation to the Parish We are most grateful to the St. Anthony Society for their $1,000 donation to the parish which was
presented during their annual breakfast on the Feast of St. Anthony.
Peter’s Pence Next week we will take up the Peter’s Pence collection, which provides Pope Francis with the funds he needs to carry out his charitable works around the world. Please be generous.
Blood Drive Only 3 out of 100 Americans donate blood and that is not
enough! Lives are saved when blood can be utilized
in many life situations, such as those who loose blood in tragic car accidents. It can also be used to help fortify cancer patients in between their chemo treatments, along with mothers carrying their unborn infants. If you can spare an hour, please come to our Blood
Drive and help save a life. You never know, it could be one of your loved ones you are helping. Our
Blood Drive will be held July 5, 10am – 3pm in the Parish Center. Please visit
redcrossblood.org/RapidPass before your visit to save time! Thank you!
The Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette Having brought the fullness of Life to our
world when He rose from the dead, Jesus sent his disciples to share this life with all of creation. “They went forth and preached
everywhere: (Mk. 16:20). The Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette minister to people of
every race, language, culture and way of life – beginning at the La Salette Shrine in France
where our Blessed Mother appeared in 1846.
Her final words, “Well, my children, you will make this known to all my people,” echo Jesus’ Gospel mandate. It is little wonder that the La Salette Congregation has always been mission orientated. When called upon by the Vatican to preach the Gospel in foreign lands, they
eagerly responded. This spirit brought them to mission in 27 countries, especially among the
poor in Angola, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Haiti, India Madagascar, Myanmar and
the Philippines.
With your cooperation, the Missionaries of La Salette can
continue to provide spiritual and financial assistance to these
mission countries as they bring God’s reconciling message to the poor.
Next Sunday OLM will have a mission appeal
given by Fr. Bernie whom is a native of the Burmese La Salette missionary. He was
educated both in Burma (now Myanmar) and the Philippines and in the past has served as
Pastor in a parish in California and the Philippines. He is presently Director of the La Salette Mission Activity in his homeland. Let us welcome him and his message with open
arms and hearts.
Dynamic Catholic The title of this month’s book from Dynamic Catholic is "Resisting Happiness". The book describes the many ways we can be resisting
happiness in our life. It shows us how to avoid sabotaging our own opportunities to have real
joy and how to enhance our happiness. We can start choosing happiness every day. The Parish Champions will be passing out this wonderful
book by Matthew Kelly the weekend of the 29th and 30th after Masses. Christian love,
John and Bonnie Miller
The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
Today, the second Sunday after Pentecost, we
celebrate a second solemnity, which marks
our return to Ordinary Time. Today is the
Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood
of Christ. At one time, this day was
called Corpus Christi, Latin for “the Body of
Christ.” In the most recent revision of the
liturgy, the name for this day is expanded to
be a more complete reflection of our
Eucharistic theology.
The feeding of the 5,000
is the only one of Jesus'
miracles to appear in
all four Gospels. Luke
places it between
Herod's question, “Who is this about whom I
hear such things?” and Peter's response to
Jesus' question about who he thought Jesus
was: “You are the Messiah of God.” In Luke
the feeding is not the result of Jesus'
compassion for the crowd but is instigated by
the disciples. They wanted Jesus to send the
crowd away to town. Instead Jesus tells the
disciples to give them some food on their own.
The passage is meant to remind us of two
feedings in the Old Testament: the feeding of
the Israelites in the desert and Elisha's
feeding of 100 people with 20 loaves in
2 Kings 4:42-44. It is also connected to the
institution of the Eucharist. As in the Last
Supper accounts in Matthew, Mark, and
Luke and in Paul's account in
1 Corinthians 11:23-
24, Jesus takes bread,
looks up to heaven,
blesses the bread,
breaks it, and then
gives it to the disciples. In using this exact
language, Luke is reminding his readers that
in this miracle Jesus is doing more than
feeding hungry people as God did for the
Israelites and the prophet Elisha did as well.
The bread he gives is his body, which he will
continue to give as often as the community
breaks bread in remembrance of him in the
Eucharist. Taken from www.loyolapress.com
