Even though he appears to be focused on the hip-hop generation, King’s message is universal. He encour- ages readers to wake up, rise, and live the way God intended. Lee explains that we’re taught that our youth is to be spent ir- responsibly, but he dis- agrees. He wants young people to use social media in moderation be- cause oversaturation can lead to a lack of solitude and contemplation. The legalism I accepted proclaimed, Look how good I am because of what I do… Both say, Look at me.” Jonathan Holling- sworth lived an austere life in hopes it would make him a “better fol- lower” of Jesus, but after a missions trip gone wrong and the accom- panying disillusionment, he found that “grace deems everyone worthy in a world that says no one is good enough.” Mother and son do a fantastic job of bringing difficult material to light. I see this book appealing to the same audience as Blue Like Jazz.
