An independent evaluation by Orygen from Melbourne University found: Over 80% understood more about mental health problems and were more comfortable talking about mental health. More than 90% liked the content, including workbook, videos and delivery, and believed the information would benefit themselves and others. Over 90% felt that by the community addressing mental health, it made it a better place to live. “The amount of information presented was good and the people talking on the videos are quite relatable. Rural Minds suite of training optionsRural Minds IntroductionA lecture style presentation focused on ‘Looking After Your Best Asset’, this introduction includes stats on mental health and suicide, and tips on how to maintain and improve the mental health and wellbeing of loved ones and yourself. It also provides information on how to access mental health supports and other training opportunities.Duration: Up to 1 hour. Suitable for: 1– 500 people. Includes: Rural Minds Info Brochure, Pen, Stats Sheet, and Sticker.

Rural Minds BriefingRuralMindsBriefingbuildsknowledge,understandingandconfidencein participants about the prevention of mental illness and suicide. The Briefingprovidesopportuniestoidentifyandpromotelocalpathways to support and clinical care.Duration: 1– 2 hours. Suitable for: 1–100 people. Includes: Rural Minds Info Brochure and Passport, Pen, Stats Sheet, and Sticker.

Rural Minds Community WorkshopRural Minds Community Workshops focus on proactive preventative practices to maintain and improve mental health and wellbeing. Focusingonimprovingknowledge,understandingandconfidence,theworkshop combines practical, culturally-relevant information about risk factors to mental health, symptoms and signs of mental health problems and advice about self-help and coping strategies. The workshop also provides details on where and how to seek clinical health via local referral pathways. Duration: 3 – 4 hours. Suitable for: 1–30 people. Includes: Rural Minds Info Brochure, Passport and Workbook, Pen, Stats Sheet, Sticker, and Cap.

Rural Minds Train the PresenterThe Rural Minds Train the Presenter (T4P) is a full day session. The T4P training begins with a Rural Minds Community Workshop (as above). The middle session covers the ‘nuts and bolts’ of ethics, the method of delivery, participants/presenter safety, as well as quality assurance processes. The day ends with safeTALK training. Duration: 1 full day. Suitable for: 10 –25 people. Includes: Rural Minds Info Brochure, Passport and Workbook, Pen, Stats Sheet, Sticker, Cap, Presenters Guide, and USB.

suicideTALKsuicideTALK invites all participants, regardless of prior training or experience, to become more aware of suicide prevention opportunities in their community. Dealing openly with the stigma around suicide, this exploration focuses upon the question: “Should we talk about suicide?” By looking at this question in a number of differentways,participantscandiscoversomeofthebeliefsandideas about suicide in their communities and in themselves. safeTALKsafeTALK is a suicide alertness workshop that prepares anyone aged over 15, regardless of prior experience or training, to become a suicide-alert helper. Most people with thoughts of suicide don’t truly want to die but are struggling with the pain in their lives. Through their words and actions, they invite help to stay alive. safeTALK-trained helpers can recognise these invitations and take action by connecting them with life-saving intervention resources, such as caregivers trained in ASIST. Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)In ASIST, participants learn to apply a suicide intervention model which helps them recognise when someone may be at risk of suicide, and work with that person to create a plan that will support their immediate safety.
