RE Registration – Save the Date! Registration for the 2019-2020 Religious Education program will begin Sunday, August 25th following Mass during the parish breakfast. The Religious Education program is in need of volunteer children's Religious Education teachers and substitutes to help spread the Good News and share the Catholic faith with our parish children. Please contact Monica Lisburg or Kirsten Fuglseth if you are willing to help out. Safe Environment training: Just a reminder that before anyone can work with the youth in our parish as a teacher, in Youth Ministry, as a chaperone, or any other capacity, you are required to have completed the Safe Environment Certification. If you have not already done so, please go to www.crookston.org and follow the link to the Safe Environment tab and take the training. Thank you. Rockin’ 50’s Hoedown and Car Show: September 7th is just around the corner – just 3 weeks away. Now is the time to start planning and putting together your silent auction baskets/items, My Favorite Things (3 identical items that are your ‘favorite things’) and Little Rascals Kids Auction items. Tables will be set up in the social hall for items to be dropped off. We encourage you to not wait until the last minute as it is very beneficial knowing what we have a few weeks in advance. Hoedown Sign-up: Please sign up to help with this year’s Hoedown! Sign-up sheets are in the gathering area. Thank you! Adult Bible Study coming this Fall!! We will be having a bible study from Ascension Press on Romans “The Gospel of Salvation”. We will meet after Mass on Sundays 10am-11:15am beginning Sept. 15th. The study is 8 sessions so this should take us up thru mid-November. We encourage you to ATTEND EVEN IF YOU CAN ONLY MAKE ONE SESSION. A great opportunity to fellowship and grow closer in our walk with the Lord. Please contact Aaron & Liz Rongen with any questions. Again this summer we will be having breakfast served after mass on one Sunday of the month. Upcoming date for this gathering is August 25. Corrie Doyea has volunteered to coordinate these breakfasts. If you are able to help serve any of these dates, please contact Corrie. The funds generated from the free will offerings at these breakfasts will go towards finishing the kitchen. Save the date! The Sisters of Saint Benedict are concluding their Centennial with a capstone event - a Mass on Sunday, September 15th, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Crookston. They are hosting this Mass to give thanks for, and to celebrate, the wonderful support they are so grateful for from all of their friends over these 100 years. A reception, with the gracious help of the Catholic Daughters, will be held following the Mass. This liturgy can be your Sunday obligation for the week. ALL ARE INVITED TO ATTEND! Christ is Alive! An event for all those working with our young people in our homes, schools and churches, will be held on Friday September, 13th for all DRE’s and Youth Ministers, from 4:30-8:00 p.m. at the Fairfield Inn, East Grand Forks, the cost is FREE with dinner too! On Saturday, September 14th, Christ is Alive will be held for all parents and ANYONE working with or raising youth! It will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Crookston. Cost is $10.00. Please RSVP at www.crookston.org/christisalive. Contact Bob Noel with any questions: [email protected]. The 2019 Summer Appeal This weekend we took up the collection for the Summer Appeal! What was once an appeal to the summer guests in our diocese has now become an opportunity to commit in joy and thanksgiving to our local church. If you haven’t done so already, this is a great chance to support diocesan efforts to bring the fallen away back to the faith, to offer events for our children and youth, to make sure that our parish has done what it can to support safe environments in our parishes, to support a Tribunal that brings those with broken families back into full communion with the church and to offer our resistance to the work of the secular press. We are one family, sharing our joys, our resilience and strength as well as our deeply felt disappointments. Support green giving by becoming a sustaining donor at www.crookston.org/daa or calling 1-218-281-4533 ext. 432 Letter to a Suffering Church, A Bishop Speaks on the Sexual Abuse Crisis, a book by Bishop Robert Barron, is available in the gathering area. We thank a parishioner from St. Lawrence for this gift. Labor Day Weekend, August 31st – September 1st, we will have our last Saturday evening Mass at St. Lawrence in Mentor, for the summer months. Saturday evening Masses will resume Memorial Day Weekend of 2020.
